ralph northam steps aside and refgns, which as now he has given no indication that he will do so and certainly in that 45 minutes of a press conference happening in the executive mansion just a few feet from wheree e, he said that he will stay on and continue talks with fellow democrats trying to wi back their support. though talking to democrats this morning, it seems that that is very unlikely. then if that resignation does happen, justin fairfax obviously will step into that governor's seat. it iseeming that tell be replaced at least temporarily by theer spe proce temp of the senate. and then perhaps it would turn into an appointment position that if he is then governo of fairfax, he would appoint rn lieutenant go. i've been told by sources within senate democrat leadership that the attorney general was trying to figure out how exactly that would play out. so still a lot of questions remaining there.

but with regards to thena lieu governor justin fairfax, we were the first to catch up with him yesterday, he was walkingere on the capitol lrounds headed to his office and surrounded by seve security members as well as a large staff. we asked him if he saw that press conference. >> what did you make of it? >> you know, think the governor went out and gave his answers. rse we also issued a statement and said that we believe that the images wereal re vile and an abhorrent and disturbing. i think it disturbed a lot of people not just in the commonwealth of virginia, but around the country. and wre at a really important momentn the history of virginia and this naftion and w need leadership that can unite us. that is what i've been focused one >> reporter: goes on to say that he believes that he hopes amthat governor ralph norill do the right thing for virginia and for virginians not diravtly

watts of olney mill road. montgomery county police say he was northbound onie b mill road when for some reason he left the road. here is video from the scene earlier thimorning. that car, a toyota rolla, was northbound. and the marks on the scene say that he l started tove the road shortly after the intersection and veered off into at pole. he was the only person in that car. it was called in immediately by someone who lives here or witnessed that. when fhters and rescuers got here, he was i pinnedn the vehicle. took some time to get him ou he did die from that crash. the cause is under investigation. factors like road conditions, other car, things like that. and anyone who may have witnessed the crash, get in touch with investigators. but again, a fatal crash here early this morning. one man is dead. we're live in montgomery county, derrick ward, news 4.
