baby after birth. to defend the dignity of every person, i am asking congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother's womb. >> and that was it. >> that was really the total of it. it needs a lot of context, though. that's in reference to a interview the governor game and our to wtop colleague talking about a late-term abortion bill being legislature.the the governor would say his comments were grossly mischaracterized and t nt bill longer pending. >> and we also want to note that president trump did not make any reference to the story aboutgo rnor northam that we're talking about this week, which is those racist photos on is yearbook page. >> no comments about that whatsoever. there were also no comments about the federal workers, the federal workforce or the furloughs. really the shutdown.

there was one quote. he said we are ten days away or there are ten days left to get a budget deal to avert the shutdown. at really was the totality of his comments about the federal workers, again, a number of which were invited here for the event tonight. >>no indeed. hank you, no appreciation for the workers who went a month witht paychecks and for the contract workers who got no paychecks at all for 35 days. probably the mostni scant most of the time spent tonight in that speech was about the immigration issue. and if people were looking for a sign of some sort of consilliati co illiation from preside trump on this border wall, no, he dug in his heels just as much as he ever had so no big difference there. he really devoted the most time in the speech i to theigration issue. as we just heard in blayne's report, the reference to the russia investigation kind of stands out. he talked a ut ridiculous partisan investigations without

saying russia as interfering with the economic miracle tt says is happening right now. one thing you may have noticed during the speech, all the women in white that you could see on the house floor. they created quite an image in their white. democratic womense to wear white to honor the suffragettes wh worked to win the women's right to vote 100 years agond responsible for so many more women being in congress now. >> it really -- what struck the local members of congress, congressman brown, connolly and ms. norton, no discussion of the shutdown and the likelihood of it happening again in ten >> and no indication that it's -- that it's giving -- coming -- giving up. ow we want to go to jackie bensen. she is live outside 3rd and constitution where there is a

growing protest taking place. they had been hoping to catch the president's eye. jackie? orter: well, doreen, the protesters had positioned themselves hereli e in hopes of being seen by the presidential motorcade. dozens of people shouted andwa ed protest signs as motorcades carrying state of the union partici tnts passe u.s. capitol. >> i'm so tired of trump. i think he's going to give a state of disunion and i'm upset about that. i don't want to hear what he has to say. >> reporter: the handmade signs and the russian flags were nod to the responsespecial counsel' investigation into the 2016 presidential election. one protest organizer dressed i a russian military uniform. >> the president's union with russia is clearly very strg. so that's why we're out here, to support the president. >> reporter: and i can tell you on a traffic note tha the streets around the capitol are re-opening. departing from

>> well, jim, we've learned there is growing support for the woman accusing lieutenant governor justin fairfax of sexual assault. the #ibelievevanessa has taken off tonight. svanessa tyson her name. she alleges fairfax assaulted her during the 2004 democratic national convention. currently on leave fromer job at -- she hired a prominent washington, d.c. lm to represent her. in fact, the same law firm that represented christine blasey ford who accused brett kavanaugh of sexual assault. fairfax vehemently denie the accusations. he does admit to having a tyson e encounter with that he says was entirely consensual. fairfax was 25 at the time and was not married. as fairfax comes under fire, governor northam is getting some new support. today, ninef northam's medical school classmates signed a s lettering that they find the photo abhorrent but they add

ae retty nday. >> great. >> tomorrow and friday, kind of days of transition. let's show you what's happening across our area ttoday, t high temperature of 74 at the airport. that was a record high for the day. the old record, 70, set back in 19s. earlier tafternoon, i mentioned dulles set a record, too, but, no, the official cord was 73, not 70 like i was looking at. today high temperatu we just missed it at wbwi. a little on the cooler side, not bad. 53 degrees. winds out of the east and 5 miles an hour. the cloud cov moving in. temperature wise, we're not going down all that much. really, our a temperature not going to vary all that much between where we are tonight and where we are actually a little bit cooler, but that's about it. no rain right now, but that'g goo change. you can already see the rain approaching our region towards the ohio river valley. that's making its w our way. you can see the storm starting to get its act together, getting

a little bette organized here. chicago right now under an ice storm warning there. that's a major storm around the chicagolandrea. for us, this will be all rain as it moves on in across our region. let's talk about tomorrow. high temperature around 51 in the afternoon. about where we are right now. cloudy and cooler, about 20 degrees cooler than where we were today. rain chances increase throughout th afternoon. think most of the early part of the day is dry. tonight hrough tomorrow morning, 8:00 a.m., we've got the cloud cover but we're dry through 2:00. so if you're thinking about getting lunch outdo ms orbe even walking to lunch, i think you could do that in most areast here comes rain just in time for the evening rush. wouldn't you know, just in time for the evening rush. it will move out of here and we'll see clouds overnight. another chance of shower activity early on thursday morning, once again during the morning rush. so we'll see a rather wet rush tomorrow evening and another one on thursday morning. that's actually another warm front. that raises the temperatures

.during the afterno if we get sunshine here, we're going to be into the mid-60s. right now i've got u at2 on thursday. a few showers, again, early in the day. 62 degrees. the more sun we get, the warmer we get. 59 degrees on again, this is a little bit not representative of the day here, becoming rather wdy. that's the big thing, windy with falling temperatures. 60 whenhis, close to you wake up. by the time you're heading out to dinner, wind chills will be in the 20s and 30 os. th's talking abo real change here on friday. look what we get on saturday, a high of9 degrees. rather chilly conditions there. 42 on sunday. we watch another system move in monday into tuesday. this one is interesting storm. right now i looks like this would most likely start off as some snow a possiblyhange over to ice, and that could be a big scenario for us on tuesday. that's why i've got storm watching in there. we'll wait a see exactly what this does. his week much warmer than next week
