three of those people and another person were all air lifted to the hospital. two others were transported by ambulance. twoot sgs in northeast d.c. in less than 24 hours. today's violence at enginington police and q street leaving one man in critica condition. news 4's shomari stone is leave at that scene tonight. shomari, we understand there were multiple shots fired in broad daylight there, right? >> reporter: that's right. it was right here on this block. several shots fired. people who live in this community are concerned tonight, and mckinley technology high school, which is approximately a block away, was on lockdown whes thoting broke out around 3:50 and policar actually ed on the ground and in the air for the shooter. >> it was just bam, bam, bam. >> reporter: this man and his dog snoop heard several shotsd fire outside their apartment in the gail eckington this evening. >> we went to the window.

i see somebody drop in the middle of the crosswalk. we come outside and the guy's head is wide open, justlood and everything coming out of it. >> reporter: police say the gunman fired several shots at the man on p eckingtonce northeast around 3:0050 this evening and go the away. m medics drove t to the hospital in critical condition. police swarmed the neighborhood. roped off the block. found some of the victim' clothes and shoes in the street. crime sce investigators llected evidence and dozens of shell casings. and there were so many shots fid that one actually hit this building, the capital dialysis. take a look at the damage there on thatth window. e were patients inside the build at the time. >> i heard like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom and then a pause and then more boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. >> there are surveillance t cameras ohis block if you look right over there. are you reviewing this? >> yes,everal cameras were reviewing. >> reporter: meanwhile, he hopes detectives make an arrest.
