today's winter weather for several days now. many local areas paying attention to spent yesterday treating the roads and snow will make things slick and you have the rain and the ice andhat will only make problems ghworse. rit now the snow is falling in rginia at a pretty good clip. >> megan mcgrath joins us from right near i-95 in fredericksburg to continue our team coverage. megan, what are you seeing? >> hey, guys. we're on plank road here in the fredericksburg area. l take ae look here because we are seeing it start to accumulate on the roadway here. ju can see all of the white there andt the tire tracks down the center of the lane here. everything else is white. we're defin seeing some slick conditions out there right now. ow, we are making our way to 95. we're stuck at a red light here. so, let's go to some video that we shot a little while ago in the downtown area and see some of the snow that has been fallin in the very beginning just st k

sticking to the grassy sreas and thrted to stick on the roadways, which have been pretreated. that gives you an idea. we're right around 32 degrees here. so, the freezing mark. so, we are starting to see thatc mulation even on the roadways. talk to a man a little while ago who has been out and about driving and hescribed the conditions for us. >> there's black ice, definitely. starting to get colder now. so, i'll be careful and hopefully everyone else will. >> taking a l livek now. just came off plank road. the road leading us to 95 south. you can see this is in better condition and that is what you would expect. the major roads and majord ramp hose arteries, they have all been pretreated and the road crews aretaying on top of those major roads. we are just starting to merge now on to 95 south and you can see aittle bi there is some light stuff here on the roadway,

road crews spent hours treating the roads throughout our area. >>in justin live in warrington, virginia, with a look at thes conditithere. justin, good morning. >> ase you can the snow is falling on me, too. and the microphone. having toconstantly knock the snow off my body because the snow continues to fall in such a great clip out here. this is main street. we have seen plows make several laps around this area,ut as you can see, they are reallyke having t this work up because this snow is just coming down. now, based on measurement, i would guess that you have an ch or so of snow here. we first saw flakes around 5:00 just before 5:00 and started to pick up. it has not let up since. the good news is that vdot and other crews have ngen out treaoads since yesterday trying to get ahead of this snow that we are now seeing fall out

re. as you c see, looking at main street here we have seen, they have just got to keep working because this snow is fling sosteadily. have not seen many cars out here. that's a good thing because crews need that space and time to work. we saw virginiic state p advise everyone if they have to go out, to save that trip to midday because that way hopefully mostf the road work would be done and the storm would begin to transition out and they'll have that road ready for most of what begin to fal ter that mid-day time. as of right now, if you donve to come out, don't. it is cold out here, i'll tell you. for the most part, we're seeing the snow fall very, very steadily and that is a good reason that sools arelosed and stay inside and watch it fall. >> justin, thank you. well this morning, other parts of the country are dealing with a big snow cleanup. >> david culver is live with new

video of snon the midwest. a whole lot of snow, david. >> it is coming our way. gives us a glimpse of what we're starting to see. you saw that with justin. chuck bell and lauryn ricketts say the same storm that caused this is the one moving into our region right now. this is out of wichita, kansas. they're waking up to a big range in snowfall and we're talking from two incheto nearly a foot in some spots and ten inches in total there. you can see it caused quite a he mess on roads. even for some folks a mess to head out in and some wrecks in some parts, as well. schools there are closed. this is the most snow they have exced in about three years. and you can see the blanket is in other parts ofcour try, which indicates if you have somewhere to travel to today, you may encounter some issues. ave a lette green will look at how this is impacting flights. we'll have send it back to you. >> tdavink you.

minutes away from there o stanton road, police found a 17-year-old shot. he is expected to survive. no arrests he been made in either shooting. let's turn now to the ongoing crisis in the commonwealth. virgin republican house speaker kirk cox says lawmakers should come together and decide how to addss the sexual assault allegations against the li lieutenant governor. two women accused fairfax. cox tweeted a legislative forum for hearings should be seriously considered. the house democratsreleased statement saying law enforcement should be the one investigating assaults. the attorney for one of the woman accusing fairfax of assault accused democrats. denied denied all allegations and refused to step down. the blast of winter weather econtinues. >>re getting an update on the forecast and a look at how local airports are preparing for all this. chuck? >> dog walking forecast time. my little guy polka dot

overnigh why we wil see the switch over to rain. go out and play in the snow and kids get out at. ab once i knew school was canceled, i was sleeping in and i'd hit the hills later on in the afternoon. that'sot going to be the case later on today. if they want toe he snowball fights and get out before noon. an icy mess later on. north and west of d.c., reports of already two ihes on the ground. and i've seen some good pictures come out of the front royal area. two to four along the d.c. area and southern maryland and also maryland, as d, well. i had a couple people write me down from our friends in southern marylan today. on top of the snow, then we are going to get the ice. this is definitely where we can have some problems and power outages. a coating just to theest of d.c. and then maybe some slight ice accumulation here and there

get after the snow. north and west of d.c. could have a quarter of an inc of ice. the ice problem is going to be big as we head into thertiddle f the day and then turn more slushy. this morning snow continues to pushn from the south and west and it is sticking immediately. several inches are going to be on the ground before we start to see ts switch over to a sleet and then eventually freezing rain. snow will continue to the nor and west and hold on to colthr air from nn shenn andoah valley. you'll have freezing rain whi everyone will have plain old rain. get out and play in that snow early. melissa, let's look at those ause everything is starting to stick right now. >> just like on the top of your hat. you look ce out there. 66 out there and you're starting to see that snow hit the ground now and stiing to some spots through gainesville at this point this morning. we have been seeing that there right here. let's look else where. inner loop and outer loop of the

to, this is warrington road here that we will make our w to. let me buckle up. we are seeing some very slushy conditions out there this morning. so, they did pretreat the roads. we have seen therews out there. they have been doing their work this morning. but just because it's right around freezing and because of just the amount of snow that has fallen the last couple hours, it is starting to stack up. you can see how snow cthered is. this is warrington road right out here by the stoplight. take a look at video we shot earlier. these are the conditions j t about 15 minutes ago on 95 in the southbound direction. so, a little bit better, but we were starting to see some snow cover especially on the side of thed and the center lanes. everything has been pretreated, but we are right around degrees. that is a bit of an issue. a little while ago we did talk to a man who has been out and about. he has been helping stranded motorists and he described the conditions out plthere. >> c cars in the ditch that

it could be worse. this storm has been working its way east to west for the last few days and dumping feet of snow in california andheocky mountains, colorado and new mexico. across the plains in kansas, they got a ton of snow and wind from this storm. south of us mainly a rain storm, but dumping tons of rainn places like georgia and tennessee and getting the preview here in warrenton now. lots of snow on the front end, slt, freezing rain on the back end. further up the east coast, new jersey, the entire state already under a state of emergency for this storm. it soundsike most of these jurisdictions across the country tsg states, big school distr aren't taking a lot of chances with this snow. and, obviously, that's a goo thing. talking about the kind of government shutdown here that everybody likes with opm telling people to stayff the roads so these plows can keep doing their jobs. >> perfect timing there.

garrettor us in warrenton. >> from warroton, head south fredericksburg, virginia, where megan mcgrath continues our tm coverage. >> megan was the first to show ts some of the snow she was seeing down in t area. still coming down, megan. >> it is still coming down. actually, it's getting a little sloppy out here. take a live look at the road. this is warrenton road. you can see up ahead the flashing lights, the snow plow. they're doing their thing. jump on 95 there and give you an idea of what the conditions there look like. we are starting to see some snow cover in the area. they pretreat the roads and the crews are out there as you can see live here and we are starting to see that accumulation and right around freezing. not heavy traffic, but certainly the roads aren't empty either obviously, people out and about and you can see them here on this road. some peoplmaking their way into work. take it easy out there because we are seeing those road conditions start to deteriorate.

fallen way below freezing. now, 30 in washington, 29 dulles and 28 front royal and already a lot of h picturese on social media of a quick two inches or so acrossviorthern inia. that will continue here for the next couple hours. all snow on the front end of the day and then changing over to a mix of sleet and rain during the afternoon and becoming all rain tonight. this is all rain across kentucky and alnnessee. snow here at the beginning and continue here for the next couple of hours and after this little break in the afternoon rolls in tt warmer air will penetrate into the mid-atlantic and this will end as all rain. for no everything is turning white very, very quickly and our high resolution forecast model keeps it all snow between now and noontime. notice afternoon that change over to southern maryland and get up to 00 or 3:00. mostly rain across the d.c. metro area and still pockets of freezing rain or sleet across parts oforthern maryland as we get past sunset tonight. that should all be moderate rain
