because there w m soh snow and it was slippery. as a result maryland police answered dozens of emergency calls for crashes. thisow truck pulls the cab f a tractor-trailer from the scene of one of many accidents in frederick county. maryland state police taking this picture of a truckck ifed in the southbound lane of route 15. the driver apparently losing control on this slippery surface. clearing main roadways that are quickly covered with more snow an slush. we passed a lot of cars stranlded by the side of wi-27 drove north thru montgomery county to frederick. this montgomery county contractor plows the main roads from german town to clarksburg. >> it's real slick underneath, so i've seen a lot of cars slidingarnd. >> reporter: crews shoveling the sidewalks. >> it's a little sloppy right now, but once you cut the top layer off, solid and you're

what's it like out there now? >> reporter: a lot ofobeople are ly wondering why there are two hour delays and cancellations tomorrow. take a look at our drive cam. you can see for yourself some of these side streetsec anddary streets, they are still slush covers back here, and now we've got this potential freezing situation on top of it. th is makingor a tricky commute. a lot of these areas back here, you have hills you're dealing with. so really v dot needs to get back out here and da little bit of a better job in these subdivisions. you can get the road spray and the slush kicked up right on your windshield. we slowedt down for you so you can take a better look at what that does and i how can actually blind you in a moments notice. but a lot of side streetsll we were a over in louden county and now in fairfax county. we actually made our way to dulles interna tonal wherere were some delays and

breaking news you saw first from the news 4 i-team. a lieutenant in southeastd.c., he's under arrest for weapons violations but also plotting a major attack. in court filings first posted by george washington university's shamus eshund the i-team he had a list of weapons and intends to murder innocent civilians at a scale in this country and must be detained. no defense attorney is listed for hasson are, and we do knoed he's sed to appear before a federaln judge maryland at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. they say internet searches show he was targeting top democrats in congress. and top figures in media

we are staying on top of breaking news in the jussie smollett investiga the "empire" actor is now being kalled a suspect in the hate crime att that he reported in chicago. within the last hour we learned that detectives are

evidence to an illinois grand jury that smollett filed a false police report. the actor claimed two men beat him up yelled homophobic and racial slurs at him and put aun rope a his neck. over the weekend a pair of brothers told investigators that they were hired to stage that attack. there are growing seeigns tt special counsel robert mueller getting ready to submit his report to the new attorney general. but it's important to note that's only the first step in this process. it's not clear how much of mueller's report the public will actually see or when. our blayne alexander has the latest. >> reporter: today growing signs special counsel m robertller is winding down his russia investigation and could set the report to new attorney general willia barr as early as next week, renewinghe questions wther that report will be made public. today president trump taking a new swipe at fired actin

hours. but this lasts into tomorrow morning. >> because temperatures tonight are right around freezing. so the snowfall today is not to melt. and then ice on top of it. >> about the same one as we said on monday. monday i said 4 to 6 here. but 4 to 7 it went to that yesterday. but pretty much the same map. a lot of stations you see had a lot more snow in the d.c. metro area and points to the this is what we actually got. 2.6 at the rport, 5 poly8 towards annapolis. again, 4 to 7 in this area of d.c. metro and of course manassas about 2 to 4 inches there, a prince frederick we have 1 to 3 down to the south. so pretty good as the snowfall totals were to go. now as far as thece is concerned we're watching another batch makingts way ouray.

most ofheavier, and this is freezing rain. here it is making its way towards our region. this will start fall, pick up in intensity, and we will see temperatures right around or just below freezing. look at the temperatures. 30 degrees in gathesburg. this is why we're going to see prolonged freezing. i think frederick is too high. especially in e suburbsthere, watch out for ice. amelia, this is an area you're very familiar with. you know we've got a lot of ds back here. it's going to bea problem tomorrow morning. >> absolutely, doug. thereare some roads in county that aren't even paved, so when you'reg try get the snow and ice off of them, that can be a little difficult. talking about ice impact especially north and wes of washington, now still some areas

of freezing drizzle here inside the metro area. especially for the elevated surfaces. for the areas here enred you could see icy spots developing as well. especially if they've noteen treated. that ice you were dealing with last week, potentially similar situation tonigac. louden, around the i-81 corridor, frederick and shington county, you can see a glaze up to a quarter of an inch of ice, and this includes potentially on power lines and trees. so some power outages for the areas in red are not out of the question. we'll be tracking the potential for some lightin fre rain in spots and as doug was saying, en steadier freezing rain until about midnight, 1:00 a.m., and then the storm system does push out of the areli so roads out there tonight. especially those secondary roads. still somlick spots out there tomorrow morning. the neighborhoods i think are still going to be anue i by tomorrow afternoon and the evening we're going to warm up above freezing. we're going toee a l of

and disabled vehicles since mid-night. just an indication of the potential danger on the ro ways. you can see all thireslush right and what's interesting is that a plow came through here within the hour. but chief meorologist doug kammerer explained to us you have some freezing. the secondary roads like this one here which is mayfair drive, are as. m v dots tells that crews will continue to plow a treat the roads in virginia overnight. but here's the problem some may become slick as what doug describes the mix of precipitation and freezing. beware of icy spots tonight and tomorrow morning, especlly in elevated areas where temperatures may be colderuch as with bridges and ramps.
