allergiesn kids from peanuts to eggs. parents, schools, andnt restau are more vigilant. did you know you could develop them later in life, as well? in fact, a new study says about 11% of adults in america, 26 illion people, have a food allergy. half of them developed it after the age of 18. dr. natalie azar is an nbc medical contributor. i found this i didn't realize the numbers were that high. >> i found it surprising, also. i mean, as you said in the opening, we are so accustomed to hearing about our kids and allergies in young children. to think that you could be an adt and develop all to thinker you can be an adult d develop allergies is startling. the numbe is 26 million. half of those adults developed it in adulthood.it not just a carryover from childhood allergies. >> what mre some of thet common? >> similar to children, the most common are the same group of wheat and soy and milk and eggs and nuts and all the stuff we

usually talk about with children. the thingis, in adults, the three most common food allergies to develop are allergies to shellfish, regular fish call fin fish and tree nuts. those are the three to look out for asad ts. >> how do you know? what are the symptoms? >> allergic symptomsar are sim to an allergy to a drug. you coulhave hives, a rash, lip swelling, throat tightening, feeling faint, vomiting. the thing that's important to remember is that the symptoms and reaction may not be the same every time. it may not necessarily get worse with each exposure. it can definitely be diffyoent each timre exposed. >> do they come out of ke?w wh >> they can come out of anywhere. >> do they think there's an up take recently for the reasons? >> there are a lot of proposals. people think perps it's too much use of antibiotics which
