information to call d.c. police. shomari stone, news 4. >> breaking night, an elderly man has died after firefighters pulled himrom a burning home. his caretaker was also found inside that home in laurel. prince george's county fire says she had called 911 this morning, but by the time crews got there, she was unconscious. firefighters then found 91-year-old john karoski in a bedroom. he was suffering from smoke inhalation. his caretaker remains critically injured tonight. s official the fire was accidental and caused by cooking in the kitchen. >> in a unanimous verdict, pope francis'al top finan advisor cardinal george pel has been convicted of molesting two choir boys. he nowaces up to 50 years in prison for the 1996 incident. pel was 55 yearshe old whe was aught in a back room with 13-year-olds after mass in

on bail this evening after posting a $100,000 bail. just minutes later, the bnck e left in was spotted at a downtown chigo mcdonald's. kelly is charged with sex abuse involving four people. three of them minors. he has pleaded not guilty. the lawyer representing two of the victims says he believes more charges will be filed against r. kelly in the coming weeks. >> prosecutors say new england patriots owner robert kraft socited a prostitute twice on the same weekend his team won the afc championship. today theld 77-yearas formally charged and police say surveillance video captured the incidents near west palm beach, florida. one incident took place hours before the patriots played the kansas cityhiefs lastmonth. he flew to kansas city for the championship game later that night. kraft says he didn't do anything he is scheduled to be in court in april. >> it's a big week for president trump. tomorrow the president arrives

all over america, and tonight lisa parker from our sister station in chicago takes us inside a demo kitchen to get some answers. >> this is what you get. >> reporter: in kitchens across the country -- pyrex baking dish. >> 15 minutes in, it was just like, kaboom. it was like a bomb had gone off. >> reporter: shards of shattered glass start this story. >> within two minutes, i heard an explosion. it was like a pop. >> reporter: reports of a well know brand o glassware exploding sending glass flying, causing injuries without warning. >> do not use it. this happened a few minutes ago. >> reporter: pyrex, a kitchen corell manufactured by brands, was originally made of a glass called borosilicate. heat tolerant and l likely to shatter. somewhere along the way they say that recipe changed andx py is now made of the less expensive

soda lime glass. a type of glass now under fire from hundreds complaining online, posting photos of shards of glass they say came from pyrex cookware in their ovens, microwaves, and on counter tops. from miigan, it sounded like a bomb went off in our kitchen. handouri, exploded in her cutting her on the wrist, chin and under the eye. and from arizona: it eloded violently, glass literally everywhere, so scary. corelle brands calls those type of cases unusual and says it produces glassware of the highest quality and is safe to use in not could ventional, convection and microwave ovens. and while any glassware has a risk of breakage, pyrex has an exceptiona safety record. still, we found 850 reports o shattering or exploding glass cookware, including pyrex andr otherands submitted to the consumer products safety commission over the last sevye s. a trail of shattered glass in

kitchens nationwide. so why is it happening? we hope to answer that with a demonstratn in this lab. where we broughtnd two bew baking dishes, on the left, pyrex brand made of soda limeas on the right, a different brand made of borosilicate. using sand commonn this type of demonstration, glass expert mark filled both baking dishes. >> it has a mass. it can absorb heat and really hold it just lika liquid can. >> reporter: and put both in a standard oven at 450 ardegrees, pyrex ur later, the explodes almost instantly, sending shards of glass flyeig after b placed on aet w stone slab, an extreme condition not advised, but what he says can and does happen. >> it was an actual explosion brought about by thermal shock. it was pretty sobering, pretty scars >> reporter: soda lime glass heats up, he explains, it grows and expands.
