apartment just last night. natina kiah was stabbed to deatm inside that apt. a family member says she met the suspect on her job. she works as a officer at a homeless shelter in d.c. that's how they got to know each other and have been dating.ph lamont steson is now a suspect in her murder. relatives say she had started to date him f and fell him not knowing he was a wanted man. wanted for thef murder his fiancee in 2014. let's hear from her daughter and we talked to them just in the last hour. >> my mom not gonna be there for my graduation or my. prom just why. why did you have to do it? >> that was my only child. that was my only chil h an took her away from me. he took it away from me. but he will not take my joy.

>> reporter: that was a very emotional time when we interviewed that family right t outside ofir home in temple hills. everyone was gathered around, they were in tiea, they were hugging, crying. mixed emotion, obviously happy an arrt was made but deeply saddened by this loss. >> we learned police have been searching for this guy for five years, is that right? >> what can you tell us about the other case? t >> reportes started back in 2014. he's a suspect in the murder of hisfiance that woman was also found dead, asphyxias we understand it. her dog was also found dead right next to her. t became a suspect in t case, but then as police say he went on the run. the last known sighting of of h was inside a train station where he was videotaped on an

escalator and has not been seen since. somehow ended up in the d.c. meless shelter in northeast washington. that's where he found this security guard and we'll take it from there with the latest at 5:00 with a press conference scheduled later this afternoon. thanks, darcy. also breaking arince george's county police officer indicted on an assault charge. tracee wilkins is le at the county courthouse on this story. a news conference just broke up, what did we learntoday? >> reporter: we're told facing after he allegedly punch add person in his custody in the face multiple times. we're told this was as this man was being brought into custody for breaking and entering and i onthe cruiser, this officer began to punch this person peatedly.

hear now from the prince george's county state's attorney andlso the chief of police. >> corporal downey encountered an individual placed in handc f handcuffs in the front seat of a police cruiser and he was secured in a seat belt. bsequent liquly corporal downey punched the individual in the face. >> yes, he was dietindicted tody a grand jury from members for a uct in office. >> reporter: the chief is saying they found out about this incidentecause of other police officers who reported downey's conduct. he sd after an international investigation they decided to go ahead and charge downey. we're told the victim in this case, the person taken into cuanody was an afrmerican man, the officer who punched him a number of times in thatr cruis a white officer.

close some of the pedestrian fencing at the zoo. it's been in the planningomtages for time, adding fencing sound the national zoo and closingeral of the pedestrian ens entrances. today themi planning cion gave final approval to the changes. the biggest change is reducing the number of pedestrian entrances from 13 down to 6. there will be additional fencing installed around the zoo me perir. the three main entrances, including the main entrance at connecticutvenue will not b impacted by the changes but smaller lntrancese these near parking lots will be closed. >> the zoo wanted to put up permanent security checkpoints to screen visitors we hear. where does that proposal stand? >> that was one of the most contentious partsf the proposal and what took so long. ultimately the zoo dropped tse plans so there will be no permanent security checkpoints erected here.
