rapede after a woman was in montgomery county. a teen was assaulted by an unknown man who held her at gunpoint. now, dna evidence has linked the attacker to the crime. security video shows the chilling moments before a hooded man attacked the girl at a nursing home in ghaitiaithersbur 2010. police say he shoved a gun against the back of her head and then forced her into a restroo and assaulted her. years went by without justice for the victim, until last spring. that's when montgomery county alerted about thi man, who is behind bars already. drug facing charges of a charge in virginia. >> they considered his dna into the database system, and they notified us our open rape case, with dna samples taken from the victim in a rape kit that day,

the actor told police two men attacked him shouting homophobic slurs and putting n ase around his neck. two men say smollett paid them to stage the upset. some say smollett was upset about his salary on "empire." his attorneys say they're going to fight the charges. >> we're going to fight against them. geragos, the defense attorney, was not happy. he called the charges vindictive and an attempt to make headlines. he accused them of robbing his client of the presumption of innocence.rk wos at the hospital where smollett was treated say at least 50 hospital employees may have been fired for accessing the actor's medical records. one identiseed surgical n said she looked at the records out of morbid curiosity. e was fired on the spot for violating patient privacy confidentiality laws.

were unknowingly exposed to a deadly d ger linger in the air. i sat down with some of the officers as they explained how this is changing policing across the country. >> reporter: it started as a call for help april 2018. fredericksburg police officers responding to this super 8 motel. courtney burrows dialed911, saying her husband, james, was struggling to breathe. an apparent drug overdose. >> at the time, i didn't even think there was a risk to i thought i was just there to help somebody. >> reporter: officer piersol among the first to arrive. >> we didn't know until at end of this that there was white powder over almost every surface insideroom. we couldn't see it. it was dark inside. >> reporter: the officers detectives to use their narcan on james, to counter the effects of opioids. something we didn'hink when we issued it initially, that was something we'd have to use for ourselves. >> reporter: chief nye had just gotten to the offy.e that >> first hear that one of our officers had potential exposure,

that. all you have to do ish sea marathon. a couple was overjoyed about the baby coming into their lives. they were set to adopt from a woman in southwest virginia. the only problem, she was never pregnant. police say elizabeth jon from southern virginia admitted to tricking a couple from california into thinking she was pregnant can you imagine? now, she's facing nine felony sarges. police she took money and other property from the couple, including monpent on professional photos announcing theadoption. jones says she's sorry for what she did but does not think she should be punished. >> i don't think so. because i don't feel what i donc wasminally wrong. now, morally, was it? yes. but i'er seen anybody be charged for something morally. >> there might be people that disagree with her. in the past, jones has been

convicted of larceny involving credit card fraud. right now, an investigation is underway. this is at sidwell friend school. racist names and swastikas were shown during an assembly. students ansring questions using their cell phones. the res were then projected on big screens. some of them contaed racist user names. in a letter sent home to parents, the head of the school said,quote, i a disappointed, dismayed, and deeply sorry that such an incident couldake place at our school. quote, racm and anti-semitism will not be tolerated in this community. it's been more than a year after the high school shooting innd park florida. now, more security upgrades are coming to montgomery county public schools, but t system is hitting some roadblocks. the school system is planning to add four to five surveillance camera 1 at each elementary dhools. those buildingsidn't have camera coverage. the school syste says it wants

to the district, where federal investigators are looking into business relationships. they've issued subpoenas for the d.c. council and mayor bowser. evans issued several public apologies in the last week. on tuesday, the council chairman recommended that evans be repry his chief directing of staff to send policeatiosoli for outside employment using her e-mail government account. he touted his influence on the council and metro's board. evans has insisted he's done nothing illegal. time is running out for businesses and restaurants in d.c. to get rid of the plastic straws. r lots of alternatives. there ar metal straws, some made out of hay, paper. city inspectors have been handing out ings, notices, and informational flyers to get everyone into compliance. since january 1st, 70us binesses have been inspected, and about

information on the fate of virginia's prepaid 529 fund. as reported last month, the pl college saving suspended enrollment. it is bac open, butnly temporarily. susan hogan has more on an important deadline families need to be aware of. >> reporter: virginia's prepaid 529 plan in jeopardy. famies weren'tigning up because they wouldn't afford it. enrolemeel urrollment was seeuspended unti lawmakers could f out the fate. the general assembly passed legislation that way the entire benefit structure of the prepaid plan to make it m e affordable. until that new program is in place, families can enroll in a epaid plan until april 30th. if you have a current contract, that will stay the same. now, once the new benefit structure il in place, you w have the option to keep your
