we'll time it out for you this afternoon coming up. good morning and welcome to news 4 midday. >> we begin with that scary situation in northwest d.c. a car with children insito it crashed home. >> amy cho joins us live with more on how this happened. some inedible video behind you, amy. >> yeah, this isust a terrifying story and a reminder for all drivers to pay attent n attention. d.c. police say two young boys were inside that car as it rolled backwardsown a hill and me crashing into this house. now according to police, the mother of those two young boys had just parked her car at the top of hill. she hadpparently ran inside to grab b something quickly and left her two boys in the car, but that mom also accidentally left the car in gear. now when that mom realized her mistake, police say she told her

sons to turn the car off, but they instead put the car in neutral and that's when it d rolled backwarn the hill. you can only imagine how terrifying. that must have be such a long and steep ways to police s mom tried to tgo. chase the car and fell. apparently a neighbor saw what was happening and tried to jump inside the car and stop it, but it was moving too fast. now the car eventually crashed into the living room of this house here. two people were home a the time. a mom and her son. the son said he was asleep when the crash happened i feel bad for them. because they just had like an every day mistake and it turned out to be as bad as possible. i'm glad the kids are okay. if we were anywhere in the kitchen or living room b it coud han bad. i'm glad i'm a late sleeper basically. tell your family you love them all the time. you never know what can happen i guess, that's the main message. >> now police tell me the go two kids and their mother here taken

because they say that the investigation is in its veryy earlstages, but i can tell you police swarmed this area. it was early in the overnight hours around 1:30 a.m. a police lieutenant says they received a call reporting a man with a gun here on san spring lane. at this point, it is unclear if the man knew theeople inside the home or exactly why he was here, but when he encountered police, this is what happened. >> police, sheriff's office, maryland police all sponded. subsequently, they did encounter the subject out of a residence and they were involved in an officer involved shooting and we have one adult male deceased. >> at the point, police are not identifying the man or police officer who shot him, but thece of is an administrative leave pending the outcome of the

e been through the longest and in this very diverse community here, we are the ones o help everyone out. like a grandma and a grandpa. >> exactly what folks need to see. this is a show that has there's a sing who's grandfather becomes his roommate, an injured veteran, a new rk city police officer. is the thinking that this sort of diversity helps to make the show more relatable ar hopeful in the age we live in hnow? >> we need that because everything is separate. with blinders on. you wal in in direction, you walk in that direction. with this age and gend everything, the diversity in the oeow, it will show that it take a village and within a village, you can get things done. you can help each other out with different problems and situations and have friends. it's important. >> now there are folks who are comparing this to to the other us, that's beens on for a couple of years now. is that a good or bad thing?
