juli? >> reporter: as you knowhu juries are pretty unusual, but this is a very unusual case. it w around 11:30 this morning at the jurors notified the judge they were hung, theyac couldn't a verdict. she did what was standard. break d them to take and work a little harder and now they have been behind closed doors for three hours. we haven't heard a word from juem since. here is what thi has to consider. both sides agree that the defendant was suffering from severe mentass ill when he left his new jersey home last july 13th only days after getting released from a psychiatric hospital. he came to oldtown, went to the second door and the men were total strangers and he box cutter in the office and he slashed and stabbed jackson some 53 times also beating him and breaking his neck. doctors who examined him say

>> reporter: well, this unfolded just a few months ago. 13-year-old jamie closs was found after 28 days by 20-year-old jake patterson in wisk. well, today patterson pled jayme andkidnapping murdering her parents. patterson's lawyers said he wanted to plead guilty so jayme'samily would n have to worry about a trial. before kidnapping her andld g her in a remote home for months. closs finally escaped in january and with the help of a neighbor was able to call 911 alerting police. patterson is facing a maximum sentence of life prison for murder, and 40 years additional for kidnapping. so he'll be sentenced in may. back to you, erika. >> all right, wendy. thank you so very much. an important consumer alert fo pet owners. >> certain recalled today for

that could be. hello, my friend. >> first, we have to look at the cherry blossoms. we're starting to see the blossoms come out officially. y'e national park service still saying t in stage 4 out of 6. when i came in on mon the temperature forecast i did up that peak bloom projection now, april 4th through the 5th. so take a look. next weekend i going to be the time to go. not only this year did i up the ak projection date but as we look back over the years we've seen that deak bloome change on average to about five days earlier than it used to be. so between the time period of 1931 and 1960 the average peak bloom fell on aprth and then we compared it to more recent years from climate central. now 1981 through 2010 even through last year the peak bloom averages about april 1ist.
