ckup. had a truck fire. and one lane is getting by. aaron? >> thankyou. some other breaking news on the roads overnight. take a look at this. a metro bus was involved in a crash in southeast wasngton. this was at southern avenue. we spoke with d.c. police and they didn't have information on injuries or what caused this crash. we want to get back to the crash on the beltway that had lanes shut down for 12, unbelievable hours. >> commuters who left for the destinations in the early d afternoon,n't get there until midnight. the whole thing started around 2:00, wh a fuel tanker overturned after some collision with several cars on the american legion bridge. that tied up traffic for the next several hours. >> justin finch joins us live from maclean on why it took so

long to clear this crash. justin? >> reporter: well, molette, aaron, the first resnders had a lot of work to do. and the biggest hazard was the turned-over trailer that was full of fu. they had to first pump out the fuel. and that is w what are told took for hours here on the beltway here last night. several hours, it took. from montgomery county fire and rescue, to team up and get that gas from that tanker. traffic here on the highway, built up. chopper 4 over the scene. drivers and passengers who werer stuck in t cars by the american legion bridge, on the inneon loop. he outer loop, cars could not helput look ha wwhat was gog on. cars and passengers were

staged the incident to improve his career. they are upset that prosecutors dropped charges agnst the actor earlier this week. t trump says the fbi will review this case. smollett continues to say the attack was real. a student at virginia commonwealth unirsity is accusing former governor doug wilder of sexually harassing her. sidney block told "the washington post," that wilder took her out to dinner to celebrate her birthday in 20. invited her, wilder back to his condo, gave her alcohol andisd her without conse consent. black reported the incident in december. black was a student student at vcu at the time. and workeds an office assistant at the vcu school.

northeast, with more on this. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we thoug we might hear something as soon as 6:00 hit this morning. we haven't heard anything. pope francis is expected to name wilton gregory, the nexwa archbishop oington. now, gregory is serving in atlanta. he is a lo-time leader in the catholic church. he served as president of the united states of -- united states conference of catholic bishops. he held that decision during the 2002 sexual abuse scandal, the so-called spotlight scandal. he is known for the dallas charter to make priests accountable. it's n known if archbishop gregory will accept the position. a lot of unanswered questions here. a local church expert says, if
