water main break. that work is still younderway. have to follow police direction around that. and through prince george's county, northbound, southbound, inbound and outbound, everything is looking quite good. eun? >> thank you. we begin with two developing stories in prince orge's county. both involve gun violence. we begin in riverdale park. ficers were called to a home on 59th avenue around 5:30 yesterday evening. >> a homeowner says a man tried to break through his front door. he grabbed his gun and fired at the d-wo burglar. doesn't know if he hit m. the man took off running. in suitland, a man was shotde t ath inside a parked car on ryancedrive. poave not identified the victim or established a motive for the shooting. in loudoun county, sheriff's deputies are searching for a suspected sexual prator. a wom says a man broke into sr apartment on north duke drive inrling tuesday night. she tells investigators she woke up to the man sexually assaulting her. he ran s off once woke up.

the sheriff says it doesn't appear there was forceden tree. p's -- forced entry. it'ssible the perpetrator came in through an unlocked door or window. a man suspected of assaulting his daughter faces prison time. 49-yasr-old daniel gross found guilty on three charges including child sexual abuse. he and his wife adopted the girl when sheas just 2 years old. court documents say the abuse started when the girl was 5 ands lasted for y until she told her biological >>grandmother. e know from the adoption records what mr. gross really wanted was initially he wand a teen. he wanted to adopt a teen girl, not an infant achild. thse did not begin immediately. it began once she reached the age of 5. >> gross who had been free on bond since arrest01 in had his bond immediately revoked by the judge. he will be sentenced in july. that little girl has since been

adopted by another family. > it's 4:33. we have an update to the breaking news we brought you wednesday morning. we're learning more about a deadly fire in old town alexandria. investigators believe electrical cord set a mattress on fire, and those flas kept spreading through the house. a wom died in the home. her husband was rushed to the hospital with serio burn neighbors say jara has had mobility issues lately. a dog and cat were also rescued from the home.fi fighters say the flames caused about $150,000 worth of damage. and a powerful gas explosion caused a massive fire in durham nortcarolina. one person died there. six others are in critical condition this morning. yesterday contractors were drilling and apparstly hit a line around 9:30. officials started evacuating the surrounding area. the explosion happened about 30 minutes later. we know one building w destroyed. five others were heavily

it's 4:44. new overnight, a young girl is in the hospital after being shot inside her marylan home. our partners at wbal-tv report the 4 or 5-year-old was hit by a

bullet in the torso. it happened a mile from the pimlico racetrack in baltimore. neighbors say her parents were home at the time. and it's not clear how the child was shot. new, we're hearing from the father of marine staff sergeant christopher sletman. >> he was one o three killed by a roadside bombing in afghanistan. he was once at firefightere kentland volunteer fire department in landover. he also spent 15 years in the new york city fire department. sletman's father and wife learned the tragic news on monday night. >> talk toy parents a lot who are both dead. and i told them monday night that christopher was coming to tyke care of them. >> slutman leaves behind a wife and thr children. on tuesday, dozens of new york firefighters honored his memory with a moment of silence and an award for bravery.
