starts now. good morning and welcome to "news4 midday" i'm molette een. >> and i'm erika gonzalez. and we begin with breaking news out of college park. ain policlved shooting. >> tracee wilkins is live near the scene on cherry hill road with the very latest on what happened. tracee? >> reporter: we're still waiting for police to give us an official briefing butte i could ll what you is happening here centered around that shopping cart that you see there in the center of the parki lot. i've talked to folks who were here this morning when this all happened around 7:45 a.m. they tell me someone was trying to steal out of the hom depot. what you see there in that cart possibly left behind by the person who was trying to steal. there was an interaction then with a prince george's county police officer and he fired one shot in the air to try to get the suspect und control who had a weapon in his hand at the time, possibly a crowbar. whatever happenednext, the person got away. prince george's county police on

the scene looking for the possibility of additional shots, trying to seef there were any blood drippings or anything left in the parking lot to give them any kind of clue as to whether this suspect was actually struck by bullets. at this pointhey're saying they do not believe that is the case but they are still looking for that suspe. now we're waiting for prince george's countyolice chief to brief us. he is here on the ground. again detectives still working thism area. old that there is a lot of video of what happened here today. surely that will be a part of this ongoin investigation. live in college park, i'm tracee wilkins. back to you in the studio. >> you'll keep us posted. and now to the big developing news out of london. julian assangerrested at the ecuador embassy. >> this is new video of him arriving the a londonpi courtro. ures showing him giving a thumbs up to the crowd there. >> reporter: he was arrestedor breaching bail conditions and in connection with u.s. charges.

kelly cobiella has the latest. >> reporter: julian assange is being held here at this central london police station after arrested on a warrant for skipping bail back in 2012. that is when he sought refuge in the ecuador embassy in london to avoid being extradited to sweden on afegations rape and sexual assault. this morning ecuador president announced via h twitterwas withdrawing julian assange asylum status for what he called repeated violations tonight conventirss but it apphere is more than that. the metropolitan police in london announcing that assange has been further arrested on behalf of the united states. arrested after he arrived her t the jail on an extradition warrant. assange founded wikileaks, the organization behind the massive classified documents back in 2010. the organization also behind the release of email stolen from

the democratic national committee and then released in the 2016 election. a source directly familiar with the situationells nbc news the u.s. is, in fact, making plans to extradite assange in connection with sealed federal charges of the nature a exten of the criminal case unclear. nbc news ource tells it is related to contact dating back to the early days of wikileaks. this morning assange's lawyer said that he is simply a foreign journalist publishing true information. back to you. >> kelly cobiella. thank you. attorney general william barr told a senate committee he thinks the spied on a trump campaign and offered no evidence to back up his statement. tracie potts reports. >> reporter: attorney general william barr tells lawmakers he's going back to figure out why the russia investigation started.

a home in riverde park. justin finch has more from police headquarters. >> reporter: somewherehere there could be a would-be burglar suspect with some kind of gunshot injury but theug question t is where is this person? the homeowner in this case saying a burglar d try to break through his front door yesterday evening and so he fired his gun. that was close to 5:30 p.m. on wednesday. this homeowner living on the 5300 block of 59th avenue and prince george's police spending hours at theront door and porch collecting clues. trying pursuing leads to track down who this suspect may be. but at this time, they haven' found really strong evidence of hat burglar being shot at that home. as we come back out, we can tell you they're l continuing tk into the case. the question, though, was the target hit. because they do know that gun was fired last night. in palmer park, i'm justin finch, nbc4. this morning we're getting a

look at dash-cam video of yesterda cs deadlsh in prince george's county. keep an eye on the right side of the screen. it is just jawing when you look at it. it is stunning. a school bus passes through the intersection and then a second bus is hit by a tractor-trailer. and this was on branch avenue and surratt road. one woman dod in a car a involved and several others were hurt. investigators say itea a the tractor-trailer ran a red light. someer 15 seconds a it had changed. new this morning, firefighters say smoke alarms helped a family of four escape a house fire iny montgom county. flames ripped through and badly damaged this home on brisbane street in s silvering. officials say two adults and their children did make it out of the home safely. one of the pets, however, did not survive. the causeir of the is being blamed on a faulty electric plug adapter. meanwhile, a road closure
