man dead and another rushed to the hospital. it happened just after 3:00 this mo morning on may wood lane. once officers arrived, they found two men shot at a home. one taken to the hospital, no condition. other man was already dead. right now detectives are still trying to identify a motive and suspects. stay with news 4 as we get more information on this developing story. meantime that shooting was therfar from several violent incidents yesterday along southern avenue at the d.c./maryland line. police are investigating a couple of things here. first, a man was stabbed to death on southern avenue near wheeler road in southeast d.c. that happened around2:30 yesterday afternoon. a few hours later, prince george's county police got word of a shootng o southern avenue in the boulevagh heits neighborhood. police tell us they expect that that person will survive. then d.c. police were called backav to southern ue. this time for a shooting near the suitland parkway. no word on that victim's condition. police say the gunman drove off

too. >> we saw the stack of shts. back here, to our area, for a second, a widow is suing the c. department of corrections and d.c. halfway house after a brutal hatchet attack that left her husband 46-year-old joel pavola dead in tennessee. this murder happened last summer. theuspectediller had escaped from hope village in southeast d.c., just days before the murder. >> we got a tip that somebody in tennessee was suing the d.c. department of corrections and no often that people from tennessee which sue the d.c. department of corrections, twi w of this murder victim of ges the d.c. department corrections, the u.s. justice department and the hole village halfwayouse didn't do sufficient diligence in ensuring that the person who escaped from the halfway house was recaptured or people were notified about his escape. it was days later after the man escaped from hope village that he killed his former bossco ing to prosecutors in tennessee. he's pleaded not t guilty t

history has been made in prince william county wre voters have elected the first an african-americirst person of color to serve on the brd of supervisors. democrat victor angry was the winner of a special election to replace john denkens who passed away in february. angry is retireational command sergeant, business man and volunteer firefighter who says he a wants to be role model for children. he won with 75% of the vote. he's still got to run for the seat, but fills out the rest o this seat, the term for jenkins. ho significant is this for prince william county? >> this is huge. you look at the makeup and the changing makeup of prince william county this is one that is increasingl t diverse over years, not only with the african-american population, bui cey with latinos in that county. to have somebody of color t e thseat, take a leadership role, will be very significant

family members claim employees at chevy chase house waitedly ne a week to call police and notify the woman's family. the woman sufrs from dementia. the story was disturbing on so many levels. many of us have elderly relatives or family members that we pced or that have been cared for in facilities like these. scott, bring us up to date on what the i-team discovered. >> let me remind folks who don't have a family member who is impacted by this. when you have loved one in assisted living, you are often paying that out of pocket each day. sometimes a couple hundred bucks a day out of your pocket forin assisted l care. there is a lot of people that react to the initial story that an assisted living facility, chevy chase house in d.c., was under scrutiny for how it handled a sex misconduct investigation inside the bedroom of one of its residents, a woman with dementia. the family o the woman filed suit alleging they didn't quickly respond t allegations there was a sexual sconduct

case. internal d.c. department of health records show there was me lag in reporting that to the management and then ultimately a whole week went by according to the department of health before the police werer calledhe family of the woman was called. that family has filed suit ying that's unacceptable and sued for a million dollars and no comment to the suit f chevy chase house, but the chevy chase house did say their i licens in tact, they follow regulations and retrained their e since. the t >> can you tell us how that construction worker wound up back at the facility, back on the job while this was being discovered. >> on ail 6th, a year ago this eek, april 6th, 2018, housekeeper says she saw that construction worker from on site in the woman's bedrm, three days later that construction worker was seen again on that floor of the building,till on the job. construction company, chevy chase house, expined how that

came to be, but that is part of the lawsuit, family wants to know how a person who is considered auspect potentially in s misex misconduct case is bk on scene days later. >> they not only didn't report in a timely manner, they're supposed to report to a regulatory agency, the ealth regulation and licensing administration? >> yeah, in the d.c. department of health, has oversight over assistedceiving resid and same is true in maryland and virginia. these are regulatedindustries. but there are also in addition to regulations there are oinen rnal protocols, you go to work, your bosses have a protocol. what they're supposed to do, if there is a suspected case of sex misconduct. the inspection of the chevy chase house specified you have internal res and guidelines you're supposed to follow and they don't believe those were followed either. >> has anything come of the

police investigation? >> theheolice close case. one of the reasons was the victim with dementia did not have clear memories of what happened. so made it difficuo push forward with the case. >> it shouldn't happen. >> it shouldn't. it is interesting because there have been similar cases in virginia, just this past year there were two incidents involving a worker at one of these care facilities. it caused a lotpl of p hesitation in where they're putting their loved ones. my own grandmother, suffering th dementia, and you start to rethink it. people are having aononversation themselves too, who exactly is in charge of our loved one's care, do we know about them, do we know who is subbing for them these are all questions coming into play and awill only increas each of these incidents start to come to fruition. you u mentioned the cost, know, man a couple hundred dollars a day, certainly several thousand dollars aonth that n be coming out of pocket. there is also the lossf a sense of trust. when you place your vulnerable loved one in a facility like that, do you have to totally

trust the people taking care of them? >> yeah, that's why it is called assisted living. they need assistance for daily functions of their life. yeah, had you seek this play out for your mom, dad, grandma, gr dpa, you think about these things, can i trust these people. such a profound moment in life to make a decision like that. i think that's why this series of stories by the i-team resonated with so many folks, so many of us can relate. >> can you tell us how she's doing? >> her health continues to deteriorate and the lawsuit alleges this exacerbatedit, she's having panic attacks and hallucinations and worsening dementia. we know she was moved to a new place. >> and david, thank you, both. that's reporters' notebook. m pat lawson muse.
