but i'm still tracking wind gusts around martinsburg around 50 miles an hour. the d.c. metro area under a wind advisory until 8:00 p.m. tonight. that means until 8:00 tonight winds gusting up to 55 miles an hour. all of the counties here in brown, ts includes all of prince william, all of the d.c. metro area, and out through parts of western and northern maryland are under this advisory until 8:00 p.m. that means we could continue to see downed trees, some power outages. but parts of montgomery thcount district, up in frederick county, maryland. here is the track of the latest wind gusts. you see that 51 mile an hour wind gust in martinsburg. in the district winds gusting to about 40 miles an hour. they will subside this evening but it allows our temperatures to plummet. stafford county family and their neighbors are grieving

tonight because those overnight storms came with a tragic consequence for a 78-year-old won who was killed when the tree fell on her house as she was sleeping. our northern virginia bureau chief julie carey visited the victim's family today and learned that kathy tyler was no ordinary senior citizen. >> reporter: even though she was 78 years old, this photo shows where she was most days working with her son in their shop. >> if most women h d age can what she does, she was almost 80 years old. that's the only woman i know pull an get under a ca out a transmission and put it back in. >> reporter: overnight a fastrm moving sit the neighborhood. he looked out the window to see a street full of emergency vehicles. a tree had fallen on the tyler house krooshicrashing into the . kathy's husband was able to roll

french officials said they have stopped the fire from spreading and the outside structure of that cathedral has been saved. >> that fire has been for more than four hours. parisians and tourists have bees watching thi horror all afternoon. it appeared to start near the central spire in the church eawhich was some scaffolding where about nearly a $7 million renovation was underay the spire did collapse. the roof caved in. that's when it began to spread. >>ashat spire made of oak and it went down fast. nbc's tannmpson explains the significance of the structure and she has some nio rea from the vatican tonight. >> archbishop of paris says the roof, the frame, and the spire of the cathedral are now consumed. inside there is much wood and that is believed to have fueled this fire. he's inviting priests throughout paris to ring thels bel in their church to ask peopl to come and

pray for the remainder of this cathedral. we have word this afternoon from theeatican. th spokesperson said that the holy sea, in other words pope francis expresses shock and sadnessver this fire. they are praying for the people of pis and especially for the firefighters who were are trying to put out the fire and they ensure the vatican wants the people of paris to know that they a feeling very close and they areatching them and they are in their prayers. but this is a very, very important structure not just to the cultural life of paris, but certainly to the spiritual life. and on this holy week, the holiest week in the catholic church where catholics and christians around the world remember the crucifixion and resurrection of jesus christ.

this is a moment that just occurred on the streets of paris. this crowd gatring in song as the firefighters continue to work to save the iconic notre dame cathedral. >> haunting imagestill coming in. the fire has been burning for hours, destroying the spire. stain glass and a number of priceless artifacts. >> a french government official does say both towers are considered safe. just a short time ago announcing hey had stopped the fire from spreading. but as you can see, the flames still back behind part of the cathedral. this remains a very active situation. we will stay watching it. meanwhile tonight, the measles outbreak all over the country is growing worse. news 4 doreen gentzler is workin for your health tonight with a closer look at that growing threat. doreen. >> hi, jim. measles cases have beennf comed now in 20 states. that includes maryland. so far no confirmed cases in

virginia or the district, but as the virus spreads in other parts of the country, communities are struggling to contain the outbreaks and banning un vaccinated children f public areas and schools. the centers for disease control and prevention is out with a new report. 90 new cases within the last week. that brings the total number of measles cases in the u.s. to 555. it's the second highest number of measles cases in thi country in 25 years and we're not even at the halfway point of this year. the cdc says the disease was considered eliminated back in 2000. now more than half the cases are in new york city where officials have declared aub pc health emergencaj the vast mority of patients there, orthodox jews whoad not been vaccinated. measles cases aren't just ricing in the u.s. either. the world health organization reports more than 110,000 measles cases worldwi .
