emselves but is trying to bake in the narrative about the report to the benefit of the white house. >> the president's liam team tells nbc news ty have prepared a counterreport to rebut whatever might be in mueller's report. they may or r may notelease it. it depends on what the redacted mueller report says. this comes as "the new york times" reports the justice departulnt has had mtiple conversations with white house lawyer watch for live coverage of barr's news conference here on news4 and in the nbc washington app. now to the presidential race. former virginia governor terry mcauliffe says he's not throwing his hat in the ring. he talked to chris cuomo about the decision not to seek the democratic nomination for president. he said virginia democrats urged him to raise money and campaign for candidatesunning for the general assembly. mcauliffe says he knows he could have beten president trump lik a, quote, rented mule, end quote. he refused to give a straight answer as to whether he would run for governor again.

in the day ahead, maryland governor larry hog will sign 197 bills into law. one will restructure the university of maryland medical system board which has been tied up in a scandal. another bill will classify human trafficking as a violent crime. there is also a bill that increases jail time for repeat drunk drivers. there will be three other signing c temonies inhe coming weeks.mo this ing, d.c. police are searching for the man who gunned down a worker just trying to do his job. the shooting happened on southern avenue in southeast on the d.c. border with prince george's county yesterday ternoon. the victim was a contract employee who was working on a paving job. police say there was some kind of a dispute between the worker and the suspect, and the suspect shot the man and took off. >> i heard that the young man that was shot today was also some of the people that was standing outside, jobs. that was unfortunate because he was trying to do something positive. >> this area has seen an increase in violence lately.

this past weekend a man was stabbed to death. last week, mayor bowser and prince george's county executive angela alsobrooks walked the block to encouran end to the violence. 4:05. an update to aho deadly sing in germantown we first told you about yesterday. this morning we're hearing from the heartbroken fily of the 18-year-old man who died in that shooting.ay tr dawkins was in the parking lot tuesday when gunfire up erted. it is still unclear what sparked the shooting. three others were hurt. dains' family says he dreamed of graduating from montgomery college and going into business with his older brother. >> and he didn't deserve to die that way h because wasn't the type of kid that would just go out here and hurt people or anything like that. he alws tried to help. and -- and he tried to set an example for a lot of these young kids. >> montgomery county police say e shooting was not random.

happening today, thnsfirst defe witness in the bethesda tunnel halse murder tri is set to take the stand. the prosecution rested its case yesterday. daniel beckwit is accused of depraved heart murder. prosecutors said he let a -year-old die when a fire broke out in the tunnels beneath his home. investigators say beckwit hired kafra to help him dig a doomsday bunker. today's witness worked in the tunnels before fra was hired. the man many known as the so-called amel can taliban wil be out of prison soon. john walker lindh is serving 20-year-old sentence for helping the taliban after the attacks. he is getting out of prison next month. he will be on probation for three years and be required to have mental health treatment ant his interne access restricted. 064: this morning. we're seeing surveillance video from that attempted atm theft at

a 7-eleve in mt. rainier. we brought this as breaking news yesterday morning. look closely at the pickup. itacks up into the store to dislodge the atm inside. now one try didn't do it, so they did it again. then the robbers pull and push the atm machine trying their hardest to load it into theuc tr but no luck. they left a mess and the money right there. this was the fourth such nccident in prigeorge's county in just over a month. news4's pat collins spoke wite' prince geocounty police. they think the crimes are connected. >> reporter: it happened on wednesday? >> they all happened on wednesday. >> reporter: why? >> we're not sure at this point. that's under investigation. we're not sure if there's are ason to that or if it's just coincidence. we're not sure, but that's something we'll b looking into. >> here's another look at the video. the thieves waited until police left the area to do the crime. we're also told that the store clerk was assaulted during all of this. police are also working with

several jurisdictions that are investigating similar atm-related >imes. >> a man described as emotionally disturbed was arrested outside of st. patrick's cathedral in new york city. police say he tried to walk into the church with two can't of gas, lighter fluid, and two tended butane lighters. a security guard was able to stop him before entering the ch tch andned the man over to police. he told officials was trying to cut throu c thehurch because his car ran out of gas. investigators checked his vehicle. it was not out of that incident in new york comes just days after the vastating fire at the notre dame cathedral in paris. the cathedral construction workers and security staff have been interviewed. investigators are also trying to determine if the first fire alarm sensor was properly working or working properly. it was 23 minutes before second alarm went off on monday. by that time, the fire was out of control. today a 2:00 p.m. the nationalr

cathed will ring the bell in solidarity with notre da. 4:08. new details in a disturbing sterling.ault in last week a woman woke up to a man she did not know inside of her apartment on north duke drive. and heas touching her. the loudoun county sheriff's office released this sketch of the man they believe is responsible. take a look. he is described as about 20 years old with dark,urly hair. when the woman woke up, the man ran off. surveillance video of new england's patriots owner robert kraft allegedly paying for and receiving sexual favors during a visit to a florida day spa will be made public. various media outlets he been fighting for the release of the video in court. the vedeo's from surillance cameras placed inside the spa in mid-january are a key part of the prosecution's case against kraft and 24 other men. he was arrested and charged as part of a sweeping investigation into a prostitution ring.

the neys for kraft call decision to release the tape, quote, an extraordinary and alarming development. the tapes will likely be out by the end of the month. kraft denies doingnything wrong. d.c.'s jazz fest is celebrating 15 years in summer. ♪ organizers revealed what's planned for the event. it will run from june 7th through the 16th. as ways, it will bring jazz to a variety of venues including restrants, parks, churches, and clubs throughout the city. it will even be bigger than last year. >> we' now over 175 concerts, 27 neighborhoods, over 100 musicians, 100 bands,ver 300 musicians. >> more than 100,000 people attended last year's jazz st. >> okay. that should be fun. all right. ten minutes aft the hour.

shouldn't be soraphic in detail. but there is a thirst for that, too, at the same time. it's tough. all right. these images are hard t forget. last may, flooding, major flooding caused damage in historic ellicott city and killed a man. yesterday, howard county executive calvin bowl revealed a the second pse of the safe and sound plan to prevent another flooding disaster. the five proposals include demolishing at least four ll says this will create cullverts forcing floodwater out of downtown. there will be a meeting to decide which plan will be chosen here. a similar flood in ellicott city in 2016 kd two people. catholic university is focused on climate change. they held their second annual university-wide workshop yesterday. the season focused on ways -- n, sessio rather, focused on ways to care for the earth. the university says everyon t needso be involved in this issue and be proactive about it. speakers from around the world

agoon, it's not t bad as you make your way out the door this morning. so some showers out there this morning. they're light. a little bit of drizzle. mainly you're going to find showers up through maryland, even into eastern west virginia, the panhandle right there in westrginia. we will have some more sunshine this afternoon as a warm front lifts through the area. it will turn a little on the eezy side. the winds are coming out of the south. they're also turning a little humid. we have severe weather possible tomorrow, unfortunately, as people make their travel plans and get out of hereor that easter holiday weekend. current temperatures out there right now, again, fairly mild across the board. mid 50s right now. 56 here in d.c. a little cooler in the shenandoah valley. as you make your way out, grab the sunglasses. you'll need them later afternoon. and maybe the jacket -- i think you can get away with leaving the umbrella at home. just isolated showers out there. for only portions of the area. temperatures rolling right through the 50s, then we'll continue to coming up through
