>> announcer: "news4 midday" startsnow. good friday morning. welcome to "news4 midday." i'm pat lawson muse. >> and i'm erika gonzalez. and we begin with a deadly storm system that has plowed through the southeast and headed our way. heavy rain caused major flooding in louisiana. crews rescued people from their cars, trapped in the rising water yesterday. strong winds knocking down a tree and it landed on a mobile home just alabama, killing one person. another person died while driving in the storm in mississippi. this morning it also caused problems for commuters in atlanta. >> and in just a few hours we uld see the rain move into the washington area. lauryn joins us on this weather alert day. get us caut up onhat to expect. >> expect severe weather into the afternoon. this is entirely headed to our neighborod, righthrough the mid-atlantic. if you are traveling, i am concerne for you if you are headed south out of the d.c.

area and into the carolinas. for our area, the main thing is going to be flooding. we are going to have flash flooding and possibly flooding out there. ry aging winds come secon but again, we have our entire area andn a flash flood watch. national weather service extended this through southern maryland. you were not in this with the morning show but they have expanded that throughout our entire region. pockets of heavy rain, one to three inchesotal. and i do believe there could be isolated spots that get more than 3 inches. already seeing isolated showers south of i-66 went lou ray and warrenton. but look at what is coming. ongoing tornado warning south of roanoke but this line will continue to lift to the north an east and we'll time it out for you into the afternoon and evening and let you know what to expect coming up in about 15 minutes. >> thanks, lauryn. we're tracking a deloping ory right now in capitol heights where a horrific crash claimed the lives of four

sh of emergency lights from her window. next door her neighbor heard it and came out for a closer look. he said itooked as if one was trapped. >> the firemen had to go down from -- i guess it would be the passenger side down in to get -he driver who was trapped inside of the -ehind the steering wheel. >> reporter: overnight and into the morning, pepco crews worked to replace that broken pole and restore. power prince george's county police tell news4 there were four people inside of the suv, two men and two women, all killed. it appea investigators note that the suv was traveling westbound on the 5800 block of sheriff road andomehow lost control. crossing into the eastbound lanes, popping c theb and even taking down mailboxes and more before striking that utility pole. a man and woman were ejected, police say, and as a go-to route twin the district of maryland, neighbors are used to traffic

holiday. we're live in capitol heights. i'm justin finch,k inside to you. >> just horrible. thank you. new thisin morn scary moments for some residents in sterling, virnia. th loudoun county sheriff said someone fired a gun at a townhouse before 2:00 this eorning. the townhos located on grand central square near magnolia. three residts were inside and no ones with injured. adding to the concern, though, the loudoun county sheriff is still investigating a simil accident that happened april 6th in ashburn. it is unclear if the cases are relaoud. a y man just starting his career was gunned down in hislen burnie maryland apartment complex and now his death is raising questions about potential warning signs involving his suspected killer. on monday morning police say 22-year-old tariq hudson was headed to work when his neighbor, 53-year-old james vern beck shot and killed him near the stairwell.

now it will start after 2:00il p.m. and continue until about 3:00 a.m. so rounds of rain will push through the area. athin that rain embedded in there, could hav isolated tornado. definitely could have damaging straight line winds and one to three inches of rain possible. the flash flood watch is now been extended to include the mtreme southernyland and northern neck. again, for the pockets of heavy rain we could have locally higher amounts of rain here in our area. so heavy rain is the main threat along with flooding. blinding torrential downpours if you get caught in a storm and you are driving. the secondary to that are the damaging winul. cod gust up to over 50, 60 miles per hour and again a small threat of tornado. i don't think hail will be a big thing -- threat for us. taking a look at radar. a few isolated showers now.r foe next hour or two. and then all of this is coming our way. so this is going to be moving into our region. ere were already tornadorn waings around roanoke but eavy rain entering weste

carolina. an area of low pressure and that will give showers for the saturday and sunday. because thing will move slow. but what happens is as this is moving to the north and ea is kind of rotating to try to rotate back around this low. so that is why it is moving so slowly. and it is kind of coming negatively tilted. that is what we call it as it is moving around that low. so as this is moving up to the north and east, it is almost slowin t down andt is why we'll see this heavy rain threat. not only that, but we have a lot of moisture out there. it is all transporting in from the gulf of mexico. so heavy downpours possible. strongtorms possible. heavy rain and widespread rain. the risk we've got one and twoo of five stages. third is enhanced, fourth is moderate and five is high for severe thunderstorms. so we're at levels one and two. timing, i'llo talk time it out in youror neighbod. that is coming up in about

h ty, that have issues w flooding. is this going to be an issue for most of our area? >>bs aolutely. widespread. unfortunately. inand i think flood is one of the main concerns that we're going to see locally here in our . flooding and flash flooding wits pretty srms that are going to be rolling through the region. and what will happen is a storm will roll by and then you might get areak and then another one is going to rollan by. d then you get a break. and then another one will roll by. and we call that training storms where it continues to roll over the same region over and over and over again. and that is why we saw the flooding last year withla pces like ellicott city. now, again, if you are in ellicott city,li sten, we do have flash flood watches up but we have flash flood watches throughout the area so be vigilant. do not drive across any floed roadways, please. this is the time where we get into those high water and swift water rescues. we do have a few isolated showers out there right now. and that is the case as we go over the next couple of hours. this is all coming our way slowly.

alliance investigation that started with anonymous tip. dan from the human roouk alliance is here with more on what you could do if you witalss anim cruelty. so good morning. thank you for being here. before we get into the serious part of this and kind of warning people and telling people to look out for, who is this guy who is very sweet and i can tell really loves treats. >> this is tiger. tiger is about 2 years old and also from a cruelty case. he's in foster home right now. but he is available for adoption. >> and what can you tell us about his situation? >> well, tiger was removed from an apartment after we received anotr tip. he was left behind after an eviction and had been lefthe t for quite sometime. when we got him he was extremely under-weight so it is a couple of months andn his road to recovery. >> you said he's gained a lot of weight. >> he looks way better than he did before. >> now sadly, i hear that and i think how could anybody ever do that, as i think our viewers hear that and think how on

earth. but this happens. ings like this happen all of the time. how can somebody like myself kind of recognize animal cruelty? what do we need to look for or listen for? ho stly, just need to speak up when you see things that you don't think are right. it doesn't have to be something that is dogfighting or an animal being beaten to death or something that extreme. our officers go to great lengths to not only remove animals from cruel situations but also help animal owners do aetter job of taking care of their animals. so really if you see something and you're like, that is not really the w that animal should be taken care of, whatever the case may be, just call us and we can go out and assesselt and either h the people or figure out what needs to be done in that situation. >> and i said, what can they -- listen and they were -- he was

no doubt barking for a long time and yelling for help. what can we do with a dog in a hot car. i call the jurisdiction where i is that the correct thing to do? >> yes. those situations on a hot day can become letl for the animal very quickly. o any time you see something like that, call the human rescue alliance or the police. communicate with each other all of the time. we'll get an officer out there as quickly as possible to assess >> is the best way to thit. report any suspect add bruce or a dog in a car, calling is the best way? >> yes. exactly. we have -- obviously m is available 24/7 and we -- we havs offi- >> i don't know if we could get him. he wants a belly rub. our dispatchers man the phones 24/7 so we have someonenkround. >> tyou, dan. and tiger who loves belly rubs and treats is availableor adoption.

pasta. more than half the samples tested had gluten in them. fast food restaurants were much more likely to have gluten inei samples than sitdown restaurants were.an no restaurant names were used in the study. some have questioned the results because some study authors have connections to the device that is used to test the samples. the celiac disease foundationy saying the may have been more likely to test foods they suspected were contaminated potentially resulting in a larger proportion of foods testing positive. still, the foundation said the study is evidence of challenges for people who need to maintain a strict gluten-free diet. right now the good friday free market is open in prince yorge's county. molette green tol about this amazing community effort on wednesday. new life worship center in capitol heights is distributing 50,000 pounds of food for families in need this easter
