outside, the justices inside gave us some clues today which way they're leaning. and the final word. finally. after almost three years investigators reveahat caused a massive explosion. t that killed seven people. >> news 4 at 6:00 begins with br>>king news. first tonight those charges against the mother who was behind the wheel for a devastating deadly crash back in february. >> six people died, including five children. two of those kids belonged to dominique taylor. >> nowrosecutors say taylor's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. they say this is a tragedy, they still need to hold taylor accountable. >> megagan fitzgerald is live >> reporter: doreen and leon, the state's attorney says that the grand jury just returned a t 12-count indint. six of those counts, six of those charges, rather are,

driving under thenfluence and vehicul vehicul omicide as well as vehicular manslaughter. >> an early morning crash on route 301 in bowie just before 5:00 a.m. on february 2nd has abeen described a nightmare by family. members five kids, all under the age of 15 were killed after being thrown from this car. dominique taylor was the sole survivor and driver. two of the victims were her own children. r boyfriend died weeks later. police say taylor was drunk when here car veered off the road collidin with trees. today prince george's county state's attorney says taylor is now facin 12 serious charges and if convicted, she could spend up to 6years behind bars. >> ve, very tragic, but even with all that tragedy, we have to do our job. we have to seek justice. we have to hold individuals who are at fault accountable.

>> reporter: the prince george's county sheriff's department says that they just received a warrant and right now they are actively trying to serve that warrant on dominique taylor. doreen. >> all right. meagan fitzgerald k porting. thanu. now to the single census question, the far reaching ripple effects for a decade to come. the question asks are you an american citizen. it's critics sayt's meant to intimidate immigrants and reduce the number of democratic seats congress. president trump argues the question will yield valioble informat bloi blayne alexander is live outside the supreme court. >> reporter: it's been there before but it hasn't been on the main form sce 1950. now the trump administration is workin to bring it back. it's a supreme court showdown over a single question. can the trump administration ask a pers's citizenship.

powers? the opponents of the 18 states who say they will lose money, l they coulde seats in congress say that by adding the question, you actually get less accute information because fewer people will respond to the census form. the government, though, says that there's actually a tradeoff anytime you want to get more information by adding a question to the census. in this case the government says they wanted the information to better administer the voting rights act. so they say it's always a tradeoff and that tre is no perfect way to get an accurate counter. e days of knocking door-to-door to figure out how many people live here are long gone and the census hasong relied on other government databases, social security, s and estimates. so they say wilbur ross's decision to put this question on, even though the census people told him this would make a less accurate census, was not an abuse of discretion. >> everybody is watching the new

a vent pipese as it's suppo to be. that allows gas to build up in the apartment building gas metel enomeading to the blast that ofled seveople in august 2016. >> the vent line was properly connected, we would not he had this explosion. >> reporter: the ntsb also concluded the blast could have potentially been prevented. there were oeveral gasdor reports made to property management but maintenance staff didn't find any odor.co in montgomery unty firefighters responded to a gas odor complaint just weeks before the explosion, but they could not get into the meter room t becaus lock had been changed and the key they had access to didn't work. their readings around the door to the room didn't detect any problems. >> so dashy, there were many missed opportunities here. that's the tragic thing. >> reporter: washington gas did not receive any calls about the gas leak. the company said in statement however, we disagree with their findings as we don't believe the evidence indicates failure of our equipment that night. we also do not believe the ntsb

right now at 6:30, a dramatic escape in prince george's county. >> a couple saved their baby's irfe by dropping him off the balcony from the burning apartment building. >> thehaotic scene unfolded this morning in lanverhills. tracee wilkins is there live with a couple's incredible story. acee, this is amazing. this baby is alive. >> reporter: it really is amting. for thaather and mother to have confidence in complete strangers to catch their child, look over her behind my shoulder. that is what's left of the balcony here at this apartment complex and also the inside of the apartment. you seeust how quickly that fire spread. it is amazing that none was killed.

and raped her. now to a millionaire on trial for murder. he is charged with the death of a young man who was working to build a tunnel system beneath the home. nicole jacob hashe story from rockville. >> reporter: this is a case of secrecy over safety in the eyes er prosecutors. secrecy to covp the location of this bethesda home where the defendant daniel beckwitt was having tunnels built for a nuclear bunker he claims f protection from north korea missiles. but that desire to maintain the secrecy led to the death of khafra, a man beck rwitt hired dig tunnels. the home had hoarding conditions. prosecutors agreed beckwitt did not cause the fe that claimed khafra's life, but it does -- the defendant engaged inxt eme risk taking behavior. defense attorney says this case

is a mystery without an answer and prosecutors failed to prevent evidence as to why khafra was in the fire. only speculation. nor did they prevent evidence showing the condition of the basement and tunnels before the fire aording to the defense. pointing to this being a tragic accidental death telling jurors unsolved. mystery a mystery that has to be solved before a conviction is returned. in rockville, nicole jacobs, news 4. today fairfax county kicked off a pedestrian safety initiative called street smart. it comes amid staggering statistics. 43 pedestrian crashes in the ig county, of them deadly. and more than 40 pedestrians have been injured f just so this year. police chief says that's more than the number of people murdered in the county and he hopes street smart will make a difference. >> it's about education, prevention, awareness, and yes, enforcement.
