dead after an overnight apartment fire. and we're told the m's unit had smoke detectors but they were not working. news4 justin finch is live in soutast d.c. with the latest on the developing story. justin? >> reporter: erika, truly a sad reminder as to why you have t keep tho batteries fresh in your smoke and fire alarms. this fire broke out here overnight while people we asleep. and in this building here on oak wood street here in southeast and on the lower level the man who lived there will not come back home again. locked behind this door, a single burned-out apartment unit inside of this bright brick ilding on the 200 block of oak wood street southeast. from the outde the fire damage is hard to see. but up close that ugly aftermath, broken glass, darkness, debris remains of a fast-moving fire cd in close

hillary clinton is speaking out about the findings of the mueller report. in an op-edsh publi in "the washington post," the former 2016 presidential candidate called russia's election medde,ng, quot a crime against the american people. she called on republicans to look closer at the details of the report. that suggests that president trump tried to obstruct the investigation. she wrote, quote, m theller report isn't just a reckoning about our recent history, it is also a warning about the futur unless checked, the russians will interfere again in 2020. nobody but americans should decide america's future,nd quote. parts of the deep south are cleaning up after a string of deadly tornados overnight. and as people assess the damage, more storms are on the way. kerry sanders has aat look at they are facing in tas and louisiana. >> reporter: overnight a severe storm system triggering --
