justin? >> reporter: d.c. police tell us this happened just before midnight. some kind ofen altercation betwe this man and other people that led to a stabbing. we're told this happened just above the escalators here at the potomac avenu metro station here. i can tell you the station was cordoned off h for severalrs here, opening just in time for the morning commute here. d.c. police as well as metros police here on the scene gathering clues and speaking to potential witnesses in the area, as well. emergency responders, we do know, worked to get the victim in this case, a man who had been stabbed, to the hospital. he died, we are told, onhe way there. his name has not yet been released. as we come back out live, y can see the station again is now open. and just behind the station we have several homes, this is an area where families live. several schools in the area right nearby where parkway thome and -- pati thome action --

google building on saturday. a college student and two iron workers were among those killed. there were reports of strong wind in the area just before the accident. the five men who were trapped in a cave near roanoke, virginia, are safe. they became trapped inside say columbus police cave during heavy rain. first responders s the men were exhausted and showed signs of hypothermia but are expected to beokay. this morning, a fire -- fire investigators say an unattended outdoor fireplace srted at a fire at a home in centreville. >> people were were inside the bronze court home when the fire started. an adult and three children escaped by jumping from a second-story hndow. thse partially collapsed. the flames destroyed a trampoline and an above live ground swimming pool, as well. the family pet not been found. officials a trying to figure out how a man ended up in the potomac river over the fweekend. d.c.ire tell thus happened saturday night under the key

bridge. rescue crewsushed him back to the georgetown side of the river. the man is expected to be okay. we may learn whether the man accused of killing five at the "capital gazette" newspaper will enter an insanity plea. earlier the judge gave the defense team additnal time to consider the option. this was because of the volume of materials the defense had to review. ramos' attorneys were considering entering a plea of not criminally responsible. also happening today, michael half neat will be arraign friday a courtroom. he is accused of stealing millions from clients, lying to investigators, and cheating on his taxes. avenatti was indicted earlier this month on 36 counts including wire and banger fraud. avenatti previously represented adult filmy star stormniels who says she had an affair with donald trump and was paid money to kp quiet about it.t presidenump has denied the claims. the president appeared at a rally in green bay, wisconsin, over the weekend, and once again

at this point. we are still seeing a metro transit police vehicle here still on the scene here at the potomac metro station. it is here overnight where that omn was stabbed after an altercation of s sort. and looking now at an overview, a map of the area, this is the potomac avenue metro right where pennsylvania avenue and potomac meet here in southeast. several homes and schools are in the area, as well. as y mentioned, metro transit police and d.c. police roped off me area for hours with c tape. collecting clues and also talking to potential witnesses in the area, as well. they tell us just before midnight that this call cam in. some kind of altercation led to a stabbing just above the mcalators at theetro station. that victim was rushed to the hospital. a man we are told who died on the way to theho ital. his name has not yet been released. as we come back out live, commuters will find the station
