hits your neighborhood. we've got breaking news now. a body discovered here in the district may be that a of missing ninth grader from frederick, maryland. >> police are not making the connection on that just yet, but this boy's school sent out a leater today saying th one of their students was found dead in d.c. this past weekend and the only body that we know of was the one that was discovered in some woods near the chain bridge. news 4 darcy spencer is in frederick right now. darcy, tell us what you've learned about this boy and why police aren't yet making a connection. >> reporter: well, pat and leon, we're still trying to gather details and confirm information about this developing story. we are here outside the high sehool where class let out right about 2:15 this afternoon. parents confirming that they received that ltter and the email informing them that a ninth grade student here had died tragically and that his remains were found in d.c. over

the weekend. we are still trying to figureif outhere is a connection between that time that happened in the district, but there are growing concerns that the body found near the chain bridge in d.c. saturday evening may have some connection to the high school studeat's. the student has been identified through the school letter. it's emerson sanchez.s it says he wa in ninth grade. brederick police took a missing person's report at this teenager on friday evening. we're toll a family member walked in the police station and reported him missing. he was last seen about 6:00 on friday evening and from what we understand there were n communications with him since that time. now, the body that was found c nearain bridge had multiple traumatic injuries and that's what's making the identification process so difficult. the police chief in d.c. told news 4 mark segraves that that's why it's too soon to identify this body because of those traumatic injuries. we spoke to parents at dismissal

about this letter that went home today. >> it is sad to hear that this happened in our local school here where our granddaughter is a st ent. we feel for the family. >> reporter: now, we are still again trying tf conm details about this, but in fact, there was a letter that went thome confirming the death of this student. i talked to numerous students today. some of them knew him. some of them did not. many were very set, emotional. some had gone and spoken to a guidance counselor today just trying to figure out what exactly is happening and w this happened. also this was aounced on the morning announcement earlier today. back to you. >> sad. thank you, darcy. we'll get ck to you later. more breaking news now from baltimore. mayor katherine pugh has resignediv effectimmediately. news 4 erika gonzalez monitoring developments from the live desk.

>> well, it was katherine pugh's lawyer who gave the press conference in which sheread a very brief statement from the now former mayor annouing her resignation. take a liste >> i am sorry for the harm that i have caused to the image of the city of baltimore and theed cribility of the office of the mayor. baltimore deserves a mayor who can move our great city forward. >> and that was about it. the whole thing was over and done with in a matter of minutes. the attorney did not take questions. pugh was accused of receiving roughly $800,000 from a hospital network and others that did business with the city of baltimore for copies of her healthy holly children's books. pugh hasn't been seen since early april when she went on leave for pneumonia. since then the fbi raided her two homes and office. still no sign of pugh. last week three of her staffers who were on leave were fired by

the acting mayor jack young and in the former mayor's statement she wished him the best of luck. desk, i'm erika gonzalez. >> thanks, erika. this heavyweight fight between democrats and attorney general william barr ratcheted up another level today. after barr's chair sat suppinrt du a house hearing on the muelle report, speaker nancy pelosi fired and accused barr of lying to congress and said, quote, that's a crime. she also noted refusal to respect congressional subpoenas are is an impeachable offense. sent a letter calli the mueller report political. he said the president also reserves ability to instruct aides not to testify. president trump says thinking about god helped him get through the investigations of his administration. the president made t remarks as he and the first lady hosted a national day of prayer service at the white house today.

the president spoke about recent attacks on places of worshipli cal them evil and a hate-filled he offered prayers to the people of venezuela who are suffering a humanitarian crisis during this time vil unrest. we're learning more today about why a high school teacher was arrested for improper behavior with some of her students. allison briel has been teaching -- had been teaching at loudon county high school for the past two years. northern virginia bureau chief julie carey joins us from the courthousein leesburg with a look at what court documents revealed. julie. >> reporter: well, pat and leon, allison was arrested a few days ago but tomorrow morning sheis expected here in loudon county court. she'll be there to face three misdemeanor charges of taking indecent liberties from some of her students. 25-year-old allison briel could almost pass for a student herself. e's been the marketing teacher and deka adviser at loudon

count. from november of 2017 to november of last year she began engaging in improper contact e with thre her male students, their ages 16 and 17. the charges allege she sent numerous inappropriate photos and messages to the boys. they included pictures of briel wearing only a bra and thong which revealed her buttocks. she also solicited sex from two of the teenagers. briel was rested on april 30th. we stopped by her apartment today to see if she had anything to say about the allegations, buter no one answ the door. now, the teacher was held briefly in jail, but she was able to bond out. she's due here at 9:00 tomorrow morning in juvenile court. that is because of the age of her victims. leon, back to you. >> thank you, julie. > it's been more th a week, but no motive or suspect has emerged in the murder of a former university of maryland athlete. someone shot and killed marcell

forming in towards fauquier county and points to the south. these are some of the strongest storms and i want to go ahead and show you, we do have the warnings now in from d.c., prince george's county and fairfax. no warning here, but very heavy rain all along 66. you think 66 is normally a mess, it's going to be a big mess out e tonight. as we move along 66, look what's happening right now through the district, through falls church. 66 right on in towards the d.c. metro area, along 295, out through route 50, nasty storm, thunder and lightning here. some wind as well. look at all of the lightning here. this is also where we're going to see some wind damage potential arnd glen burney. if you live in bowie or crofton along route 3, heads up. you're about to get hit hard as well. the pictures, this is a little boundary that's coming through. we expected this during the day. the other thing we expect, we

may see some flooding, northern virginia, southern maryland as this kind of stalls out just around and south f washington.h that's we're fairly concerned about now through the rest of the evening hours. more unsettled weather back t.wards the w kentucky. tornado wa5z back towards arkansas. right now it is heavy rain and temperatures have come down as a result of that rain. we were in the upper 80s earlier. now down to 79 with fnds out o the south at 12 miles per hour. as we move on through, this is at w 5:00,ch what happens here. they're still here. they sink just to our south.t ards calvert county. watch. they don't move much. this is 11:00. between 8:00 and 11:00, not much movement. that's why i highlighted fairfax county, southern fairfax into parts of southern maryland. the potential for the heaviest rain tonight. tomorrow morning shower activity along 270, but most of tomorrow now looking d. here's noon. i think we're dry at noon and this will help temperatures to go way up tomorrow.

doug and amelia are back to update us i less than two minutes. a different picture in america's heartland. tornadoes killed two people in oklahoma and texas. >> flooding was in pts of illinois and iowa. dan sheneman takes a closer look at the damage across the country. >> reporter: severe weather on the move. slamming the mid section of the country andst pushing ea days of heavy rain causing widespread flooding and storm damage. over the last two days, dozens of reported tornadoes have left a trail of destruction across several states. debris litters the landscape at ozark, missouri, where three people were injured after a twister damaged nearly 100 homes. in iowa flooding remains a persistent problem with the a recent heavy making a bad situation even worse. >> the water turns like a river. i waited for the rescue boats to come. it would have been up to my waist to try to get out of there. >> parts ofowntown davenport

down into parts of ldon county, around montgomery county, parts of prince george's county. seeing some damage around that area as well. the only warning left is right here with this storm in the eastern anne arundel county. this includes crownsville, the annapolis area as well. you can see the line as i stop this from around annapolis, right around the bay bridge right there. look at all theni light there coming right through prince george's county. another big storm. a lot of lightning with this one right along the 495. right around oxon hill. it follows 66 back to the west and you can see sometorms around warrenton as well. i want to zoom in and show you this storm right inhere. i want to zoom in to that consumer. it you can do that for me right aboveinton, maryland. this storm here a really strong storm coming right along. this is 495 right here. u see it about to cross the bell way. once again, you think traffic is dad at 5:00 on a normal day, a in a big-time thunderstorm and you're talking about even worse. this is 50 over towards bowie,
