line first has been disqualified. >> and the most exciting two minutes in sports soon turned into the most controversial kentucky derby finish ever. and you saw it all goown right here on nbc 4. a >>ouncer: news 4 begins with a storm team 4 weather alert. strong winds approaching 60. miles an hou that is one of the threats putting us in weather alert mode. good evening, everybody, and thanks for joining us tonight. i'm erika gonzalso. take a look at the radar behind me. meteorologist samarra theodore is keeping an eye on thisio situatn from the weather center. and as we head over in with you, samarra, it is my understandingv we now ha flash flood warning. so talk to us about the areas that this is for. >> that's right, erika. this just went into effect literally 90 seconds ago, folks. we have gone from a watch to a warning for the city of manass, parts of prince william county. let's take a look at the map right now and i'll show you who's exactly under what. dark green there is flashlood watch for everybody. but it's this area in prince william county including the city of manassas, central prince

william county. that is now under a flash flood warning. which means flash flooding is occurring. it's haening very quickly. this is a flood warning in the lighter green here for parts of culpepper intotr cen fauquier and prince william. one to three inches is possible with this flooding but i want to show you the radar.yo can see the areas really getting hammered in this red shading here. zooming in, getting a little bit closer. it's is area of manassas along 24 there just to the south of that we are seeing that flash flooding occurring right now. big picture does show we're not quite done yet. we've got this swath of rain and then more rain moving in overnight, which keeps this flash flood watch in effect through tomorrow. i'm going to time out your sunday rain. i'll walk you through it and let you know which areas are at risk for flooding as we head through the overnight hou erika? >> all right, somara, we'll check back in with y in a few minutes. meanwhile, breaking this evening, there's a search and

rescue that has been suspended. two people were on board a helicopter this morning. it crashed near kent island. it went down in the chesr eake bay afaving tipton airport. news 4s darcy spencer is following the dethlopments from live desk. what do we know tonight? >> reporter: police just announced they have called off their search for these two nissing men for the ht. they are going to pick up that search again tomorrow when they have the light and when weather conditions improve. this photo shows the actual helicopter the men were plying in this afternoon when they crashed into the chesapeake bay near kent island. it was piefded to us by monumental helicopters. that's the company that owns the about that went dow five miles south of the bay cebridge. poliave identified the two men on board. they're the pilot, charles knight. he'li38 and ves in mt. airy. and his passenger, matt clark. he's 36 and lives in pasadena in anne arundel county. >> at this time there has been no recovery of any individuals

and no rescues made. >> reporter: witnesses report toe helicopter crashed inthe bay just before 12:30 this afternoon. authorities spoke about what the weather was like at the time of the crash. >> ihinkt was just overcast at the time. we probably had a light breeze here about ten miles an hour. so it hasn't really been -- the weather conditions doesn't seem to be a factor. >> reporter: these photos were taken by a prince george's county firefighter who was fishing in the area the photos show some of the widespread debris field. police believe the fuselage is still intact underwater. the bay's about 55 feet deep in that area. authorities have been using sonar to try to pinpoint the location of the reckage before they send in dive teams. but agaits those efforould be prevented by severe weather overnight. the faa will investigate, and the national transaortation fety board will determine the probable cause of this crash. erika, back to you. >> really sad news there, darcy. thank you. meanwhile, d.c. police want to find a driver who hit and

killed a man in a crosswalk and then ran off. the victim was crossing the street at southern aenue and beck streets in southeast. this was late last night. and we're going to show you some video where you can actually see right there the suv's front windshield smashed in. the victim, joshua lorenzo williams, died atnhe scee. investigators say the driver was going too fast when that person struck williams. a d.c. catholic priest is indicted on sexual abuse charges involving parishioners. that according to court records filed this week. urbano vasquez is accused of abusing two minors and a womanit authores say the abuse occurred while vazquez was a priest at the shrine of the sacred heartn northwest. the archdiocese removed him from his position there. vazquez's arraignment is set for later this month. his lawyer says he'll plead not guilty.ru president is praising

to celebrate how we show up for our communities. >> well said. comca cares day is now in its 18th year. >> all right. we turn back to weather. we've gotin heavy ra in a large swath of the area. we've t a flash flood warning that's in effect for a lot of people tonight. so let's get strght to it, a somar. >> highly populated areas. we are talking flash flood warnings, watches, and flood warnings. i'm going to break it all down but for now let's get straight to the radar and show you where all the heavy ra is situated. still pretty much east of 95 is where that heavy rain has been inching closer and closer to the district. it's where you're seeing those reds and oranges and yellow colors there. all this area includin fauquier you've been getting hammered all day long. let me go ahead and zoom in here. it's this areahat was just -- fairfax just put under a flood warning. but this is my area of primary concern right now.

manassas. you've already seen one to two inches of rain. but you can see an additional one to two inches just in the next hour alone. so that's very quick flooding. now, this is the area that i was just talking about in the dark red that's under that flash flood warning right now. this brighter greeng extendin from culpepper through fauquier, prince william and into fairfax just now probably going to be to pushing in the district is the flood warning in effect through morning.morrow what we're expecting with this is one to four inches of rain, locally higher amounts like in manassas. and this is going to be the flash flood watch, is until noon tomorrow. that tells you how long the potential for heavy rain is e going to b in the area. as you can see, at 3:30 p.m. we start to get a little bit of a lull, some of the heavier showers we're seeing now kind of transitions into frederick county, it's got this northeast pull. as we move through 7:00, 8:00,

9:00 we're starting to see it just north of the beltway. you might get these lulls but notice how that rain starts to pick back up around brunch time and really picks up in the afternoon.vy some more heaain moving through areas already getting hit pretty hard right now including prince william and fairfax county and then into the district andut through the bay. so notuiing down until 9 578. n other words, for your sunday it's just going to be periodic rain, heavy at times, prompting flooding. we're even going to wake up to a little bit of patchy fog out there. it's goingo be a gray day with lots of clouds and a cool one aa tht. you just saw the lightning. seeing thunderstorms with that, and that's where we're seeing heavier showers come down. this is a live lon the district right nowe where wre seeing some of the heavier lightning and rain. temperatures in the mid 60s. in essence the best way to get things done, if you're planning on hanging out and heading to dinner outside tomorw, not a good look. you've got to hold off until tuesday. washing the car? monday's going to be your best bet. we're finally dry on monday. and tomorrow's going to be the best day to get things done

let's make it back-to-back. adios. sixth home run of the year. great time forhe nats. oat makes it 9-8. they add another in the ninth and win a wild one, 10-8 the >final. you saw it here on nbc 4. the kentucky derby churchill downs in louisville. maximum security the favthite. had a clean start but not a clean finish. maximum security got out to an early lead, pulls away late to cross the fini line first. but as ricky bobby taught me, if you're not first you're last. sometimes you're both. the race was reviewed because of a claim that maximum security impeded other horses on the tu final . after about 15 minutes for the first time in derby history the winner taken off the board. 65-1 longshot country house wins the kentucky derby. the second longest shot to ever win. and the first derby win for trainer bill mott. >> it feels pretty darn good.
