that chase began very early this morning. montgomery county police confirming that that chase ended up on the outer loop of the beltway where there wn , i fact, a crash there that shut down the outer loop for pretty much most of the morning commute, impacting so many drivers this morning. from what we understand, after i -- we bee a pickup crash, eo there were pple who bailed out vehicle. montgomery county police telling us they were able to take multiple suspects into custody, and we believe that some of them are being questioned this hour. we're still working to co irm exactly how many arrests were made. now police are not telling us at this point what this was all about, why they were interested in this particular vehicle that ended up in a chase. we're still working to get more inftmation. but re was a big impact on the beltway this morning. i believe there's still one lane of the outer loop, the far le lane, that remains closed at this hour. hopefully things will get back

suv that sank in the potomac river. >> last night, crews pulled the car out of the river near roosevelt island. news4's nicole jacobs joins us live with more on this. good morning. >> reporter: crews searched the potomac river for hours. yesterday around 6:00, they located the suv that was seen skidding into the water a day earlier. barba bushkin was identified as the driver. unfortunmely, as you entioned, she was found inside the suv. crews pulled the vehicle from the water before midnight. searchers telling news4 the water is murky and they typically can't see their hands in front of thefaces, making is search and rescue extremely difficult. bushkin's husband is remembering her via facebook calling her his lifelong valentine. he said she attended a charity event sunday, and thisid int happened following that. he ended that febook post by

confirmed with a highly placed police source that they are investigating a possible connection between this incident and some of the atm robberies that we've had happenhe in t d.c. metro area in recent weeks. we are here outside the 7-eleven. we believe this is where all of this began this morning. it's at new hampshire avenue anv lockwood store ploems e employees a-- st are confirming p twoeople went inside the store this morning and appeared to tamper with the surveillance cameras inside the storean then they rout. there was no taking of any atm or anything like that, as far as we could seen o the surveillance video. now around th same time, montgomery county police areel tng us that they began to chase some suspects in this area. that chase ended up on the outer loop of theeltway around ten ill worth -- kenilworth and between greenbelt and college park. at that point,p the susects appeared to crash a pickup truck there on the outer loop.

crash on the beltway in greenbelt. >> this started in silver spring, maryland. and that's where news4's darcy spencer is live with the very latest. darcy, what led to this police chase? >> reporter: well, we can confirm with police that this started right here in this area. new hampshire avenue and lockwood drive. you can see behind me there is a 7-eleven here. we were able to talk to the storeployees and look at the video of an incident that ppened very early this morning llound the same time that police got this ca. now if you look at the video, you see two people dressed in dark clothing, basically run into the store. they appear to jump over the counter. they appear to tamper with the surveillance cameras inside the store. when i looked at the cameras, it appeared that something had been sprayed ovem th, possibly a black spray paint. then the suspects ran out of the store. it does not appear that they took anything or got away with

anyttng. we're sl trying to figure that out. right around the same time, montgomery county police began a pursuit of some suspects near in this area. it ended in a crash on the outer loop of the beltway. pickup ere pursuing a truck, and it crashed in the area of kenilworth avenue before college park. we understand that there weresu ects in that pickup truck who bailed out.y montgomunty police were able to make multiple arrests. we're still trying to confirm how many were taken into custody. we understand that those suspects are being questioned at this hour. police have a lot of t work do to try to piece this together and draw whatever connections they can. there was thisncident here at the 7-eleven this morning. the crash on the inner loop of the beltway. montgomery county police telling us they believe th have all the suspects who were involved so far. back to you. >> darcy, as i look at the surveillance video you showed, i can't help but think about the atm thefts that we've been seeing across the region the last several months. any talk about a possible

connection with those crimes? >> reporter: well, i was able to confirm with a highly placed police source in montgomery county that they are inveigating the possibility that this incident today could be connected to those atm robberies. i can tell you if looking at the surveillance video they did look at the atm machine, bug they did not take the machine or did not appear to tamper with the achine. we've had a bunch, as many as seven or possibly more, of these atm robberies here in the d.c. metro area in the last sever months. all of them have been at 7-elevens. i know police have been active in trying to get the cases solved andorking under cover. we're still trying to confirm with montgomery county police if there is a connection, but it's efinitely something they're looking at thisorning. back to you. >> all right, darcy spencer, liv for this morning. thank you.

now to an jaupdate on a sur that sank into the potomac river. >> it was pulled out of the water near roosevelt island. the body of a 72-year-old woman was found inside.s nicole jacobith more on the victim. good morning. >> reporter: good morning barbara bushkin was located inside her suv which was located about 500 feet from where it entered the potomac river here. i can tell you search crews worked much of the day yesterday feeling around that murky water for they located that vehicle around 6:00 p.m. last night. bushkin was 72 years old. her husband is remembering her on facebook this morning. we're told that this incident happened when she was returning home from charity event sunday. her husband also wants to thank everyone who helped in finding heris -- h wife.
