a third suspect. police say they no longer believe that to be the cause. the shots rang out just before it can p.m. central time in the middle school area of the s.t.e.m. school of highlands ranch in a suburb of denver. there's an elementary school there. appears to be k-12. initially there was some sort of struggle, but they were able to take two suspected shooters to custody. one mother says her daughter was side one of the classrooms with the shooter. >> numb. i'm glad they are both okay and it was a while before we knew my son is okay. > reporter: once again we learned that seven students were hurt. possibly an eighth victim. we're expecting another update from police shortly, and we'll update you on the latest numbers when we learn more. >> horrifying for the students and palnts. n, thank you. a local man accused of threatening a terror attack could be freed from jail.

three people now in custody. let's get right to news 4's pat collins and how this all played out this morning. what a wild finish, pat. >> indeed, jim. oh, thank heaven. it appears the string of atm thefts at 7-elevens may be over. maybe. two masked suspects rush into se 7-eleven and start painting black paint onurveillance cameras in the ceiling, but this time cops were watching. this timeop the cs were ready. this time the cops came in like the cavalry. in the dark hours of the morning this street went from ghost town to rush hour, all cop cars, moving in for the big takedown.

now you see since the beginning of the year, a ring of robbers have been using stolen pickup trucks to ram into 7-elevens. dislodging atms from tiir moors and then running off with the money machines. there have been at ast nine cases, and they have been suessful at least half the time. now back to white oak in w t could be the end game to all of this. surveillance video from a nearby building shows the suspect truck driving back and forth in front of the 7-eleven. it shows the truck pulling up behind the 7-eleven and two of the suspects getting out, jumping over this wall and then heading towards the convenience store. a cop in an unmarked car is sitting over here staking out that 7-eleven. when they seego those suspects

new video from a circuit court camera shows t moment a flood barrier failed in davenport, iowa last week. a peon in a yellow jacket was near the breach point and took off running when hga a barrier way. soon, everyone in the area was trying to escape the mississippi river floodwaters. here it comes. wntown davenport was inundated and iowa is not alone. several levees in northeast, missouri have been overtapped or breached as the mississippi river approached histic levels over the past week. that is some frightening video, dog. >> something else. >> really is, and this is something that they have seen all the way from parts of iowa right on through nebraska until now. you've got river warnings all the way down to mississippi. it's the longest river we've got in the counry and warni all along and once again just traumatic scene out there into parts of the midwest of the

uncovers a new concern. >> reporter: an investigation ba scott macfarlne raises serious questns about whether accused drunk drivers are getting off too easy. e>> reporter: it's onf maryland's busiest roads. and one of the deadliest. in february, a driver killed when hisre car was ar ended at 55 miles per hour. a mother killed crossing the street last march, and in december a heartbreaking case when three children died after a uspected drunk driver struck their parents. >> the most gut-wrenching part was when those children were ialled on 210. >> reporter: cynth jones knows the pain route 2 so, also known as indian headay highwcan cause. a suspected speeder crashed into and killed her cousin backn 2011. >> same area wherethe children were involved in a crash. >> reporter: but even before, that she knew the danger. >> she never saw him. >> repoer: a decade earlier a drunk driver hit and killed

jones' sister who had pulled on tohe shoulder to close her gas cap. >> he hits her from behind and lift her up out of her shoes. >> reporter: a tragedy thats ll hants her family and is relived every time she hears of another accident. >> we still wish we still had her. >> reporter: amid all of the incidents here, the state approved new speed cameras for the highway and local leaders prised more traffic enforcement. the i-team found another issue which could be contributing to problems on this dangerous stretch of roads but pulling police reports of every drunk driving crash between january 2016 and 2018 we found four drivers prosecuted for drunk driving and crashes, including crashes which injured other people. fivef those people were sentenced to any jail and to those five sentences were reduced to had a handful of days also because they incled other charges and that's a problem says the state's attorney. we looked back at the last does dui crashes on indian head

highway. almost nobody goes to jail, even people with multiple offenses. is that acceptable? >> that is not acceptable, and it will not be acceptable under my administratio >> the i-team found most those charged received something called probation before judgment or pbj. it's used in many state court sysms, including maryland's, allowing defendants to avoid jail time by immediately serving probation. >> i think the attorney general has done a good job in bringing forward these cases, but i think the justice system did not take these cases very > eriously. >porter: nearly a dozen legal analysts interviewed said that duiases were handled differently in prince george's county than other parts of state where cases in circuit court were managedy one judge who ran what's informally known in the legal system as a rocket docket, a system orated to ve cases faster,at and torneys tell us it was known for dispensing lighter sentences in the name of speed. does that surprise you? >> doesn'turprise me at all, no.
