families to experience the pain they are going through right now. speaking to us via skype, the father of connor, says threees marin showed up at his door on thursday. >> they started to say the words, and i stoid please tell me my son is still alive. >> but they were there to break the tragic news, that cnnor had died, in a training accident, at camp pendleton, in california. he spoke to us from his hotel room in california. you could see his wife comforting connor's fiance. >> he was a leader. he loved leading young kids. >> connor grew up in chevy chase, dc, at from st. john's college high school in northwest. his dad says he always wanted to be a marine. connor graduated from the citadel military became a marine corps officer in

suspect. all right. so all of this rain that we've bn having is causing some pretty bigms proble along the gw parkway. a five-mile stretch of the parkway will be closed for severalays because of a huge sinkhole. crews spent hours today working to fix that sinkhole that opened up friday night. this is along the northbound lanes of the parkway, from cambridge road to the beltway. the national park service says the sinkhole was caused by a 40-foot deep inlet that failed. >> so both this and the previouo sink that happened in march were caused by large rain events. it is all about water moving off the roadway and into the drainage system that is built under the george washington memorial parkway. >> the park service hopes to have one lane open by monday morning. the southbound lanes of the parkway are open. four hostages incding an imagine are home after being held captive in west africa. france's president greeted the

an update on a chase and shootout in l.a. that we brought to you first as breaking news last night at 6:00. listen nows the news chopper pilot describes the chaos. >> look at that perg n sho at officers right now. look at that. >> the man riding in the passenger seat in the prius started firing at police, as you could hear there from the chopper. he had been wanted for the shooting death of a convenience store employee. the chase ended but not befsere the per fired several more rounds at officers. they returned fire. shooting the passenger, and shattering the back windshield. police say one of the passengers gunshot wounds was self-inflicted. he is still in the hospital. the woman who you see here on the ground surrendered, and isn in jail. officers say several innocent drivers were caught in the cross-fire. one but hit right next to a man's young daughter's car seat. he had just dropped her off. incredible. apple has now moved into the
