abortion law in the country. it makes it a felony for doctors to perform an abortion at any stage of pregnancy unless the fe mother's s at risk. and there are no exemptions for cas of rape and incest. the goal is to challenge roe v. wade protections in the supreme court. news4's leon harris is working for you on what could happen if abortion laws are eve ually left up to the state. >> this is an ongoing debate here. abortion lawsn d.c., maryland and virginia, they're all different. so let's start with d.c. and see w things are shaping up there. d.c. has one of the least restrictive abortion laws in the country. abortions don't require a licensed physician and they don't ha to be performed by a

doctor in a hospital. maryland, however, a bit more restrictive. there women have protected access to the procedure, but it's required to be performed by licensed doctors, and at least one parent or guardian has to be made aware before a minor has an abortion in virginia. that's the most restrictive area in our region. we have limited access to abortion in virginia. women are required to wait a full day after counseling beforg havi an abortion, and many in the pro-choice community think that adding restrictions is a way to deter the procedure. pro-choice organizations now trying to make sure that they get candidates in office this november to removese the kinds of roadblocks. a we h -- an election this year that actually creates a prorihoice majoty in the general assembly. we can move quickly to actually shore t up the rigabortion. >> now you mayec rl the
