the u.s. to help remove them. no war. publprly and ately president trump says he does not want tensions to escalate with iran. administration officials have said recently there have been credible threats prompting the u.s. to increase its military presence in middle east. president trump says he is open to discussions with the country to de-escalate the situation there. congress has been in the dark when it comes to discussions aboutran. the members are expected to be briefed next week. t his morning democrats are pouncing on president trump's new immigrations. policie he revealed them yesterday during a press conference at the white house. the biggest shift in policy was not about a border wall but what he called a merit-based immigration system. right nowore than 60% of immigrants get green cards because of family connections. under the new plan the majority of immigrants would instead be educated and high-skilled r workes. people would have to pass a civics test and get points on their age, ability to speak english, education, and any job

offers. developing this morning, military officials say a jet crashed into a warehouse yesterday afternoon right across from the march reserve air force base. the pilot alonging with five others were -- pilot along with five others were injured. the jet office a training mission for the north americana erospace defense command when the pilot lost co and crashed. from the rails to the ads, your summer communicate could get worse. >> just as metro prepares for a shdown, bus drivers in alexandria are threatening to strike. every station south of reagan national airport on the blue and yellow lines will be closed starting next saturday so that metro can repair platforms. the shutdown is expected to last until september. to make matters worse, alexandria's dash bus operators union authorized the strike. one worker said they're unable with pay and benefits and says

storms. rr drew the aws to sort of give you an idea of where most of these are headed. mosof this now in central ohio is going to go just barely south and west. a lot of times what happens, the thunderstorms have little tflow boundaries that get left across the region. those boundaries end up being the focus for another better chance for stos later on. so slight chance for severe storms later on in the day today,ss especially acro northern virginia. slightly lower chances for bad weather today as you get farther and farther up into the state of maryland. there's the first chance for thunderstorms going down to the south. that's between now and about 1:00 or2: in the afternoon. but the boundary left sort of hanging around means thereill be an opportunity for thunderstorms between about 4:00 and 9:00, really in and around the d.c. metro area. that could include suburban maryland, as well. keep a weather eye to the sky. have your nbc washington app downloaded anady to go. obviously watch news4 at 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 this afternoon.
