i'm molette green. >> and i'm erika gonzalez. maybe you saw this crazy scene driving down u street this morning. >> the d.c. version of old faithful. water shooting into the air ght in the middle of the street. >> d.c. police say this was a water main break that opened up at about 6:30 this morning. justin finch is live northwest with an update on the scene. i don't see a geyser behind you. so i think that means that is good news. >> reporter: yeah, erika, molette, i'm dry out here so a good sign that, yes,ld faithful has been contained on a friday morning here on u. street. take a look around, traffic moving normally. the wet spot still here on the ground. but good news though is that as you can see here, everything appears to be back to normal. >> right out of the road. a grayish geyser spilling from u street north 16th streetth norst. that white truck barely missing the blast of water. though it was quickly contained, d.c. water tells nbc4 as many as

today? it is time to think about the weekend? >> oh, yes. absolutely. ver too early to start thinking about the weekend in all fairness. but these clouds have really been a lot thicker than advertised here this morning. there is a silver lining and they are holding temperatures down and there is good news in that part of the forecast. it was quite the cluster ofun rstorms that went down through parts of central to west virginia and south western virginia. we're on the far northern end of that little push and that little impulse is going away to our south. and here is a curly q. in the clouds across northern virginia. that vortex is spinning down to the south and west of the washington our and keeps the clouds thick but this area from winchester to cpeper and heading to quantico and run along the northern neck into southern maryland. around the city n more than a couple of sprinkles ov the next hour or two and the slight

confirm a body found in theest virginia mountains reilly crossman. the sheriff said andy mccauley had been a person of interest since day one. crossman vanished om her berkeley springs home last week. yesterday her body was found in a remote area near the top of north mountains. the official search for a maryland native living in hawaii is over with no sign of her. amanda eller has been missing since last week. take a look at these surveillance pictures showing her at a market. heruv was seenos at the p office where she mailed a mother's day package and this was taken last wednesday. her white suv was found a week ago at the foot of the mauik hiing trail. they are still looking for theu iversity of maryland graduate and police do not suspect foul play. the family is from st.mary's county and they believe she might be injured.

as students graduate, the school is dealing with fallouts over admissions cheating scandal. one student expelled is suing the school. megan mcgrath has reactionrom parents and students. >> reporter: two students here at georgetown university were expiled after being led to that admissions scandal. and now one of the students has filed a lawsuit. adam completed his junior ear here at georgetown but this month his fa ger pleadedlty to paying $400,000 to former tennis coach gordon ernst special admission for his son. now adam said he did not know about that payoff and wants tom re at the university and keep his credits. now we got reaction from several parents and students who agree with the university's decision to expel the student. >> i just feel that there should be some accountability for people that got in that didn't earn it the right way. >> knowing what we know about the payments and them getting ia

we are following some breaking news out of ohio state university. the school said an independent investigation found that at ast 177 male students were sexually abused by the late team doctor. >> theim cla about straus span from 1979 to nearly his entire time at the

school. university president released a statement saying in part, quote, the findings are shocking and painful to comprehend on behalf of the university we offer our profound regret and sincere apologies to each person who endured straus's abuse. our institution fundamental failure to prevent this abuse was unacceptable as were the inadequate efforts to investigate complaints by student and staff members. the university will cover the cost of counselling for those acts. residents in riverside, california, arelearing any possible live ordinance that may have been on the f-16 fighter jet that crashed into this rday afternoon. the pilot and five others are on the ground -- are injured. military officials say the pilot was conducting an exercise when he lost control and crashed. a new cell phone video is

tricky. mother nature playing hard ball. the cloudhave hung around longer. so i've had to lower my high temperature down from 84 to 80. so still plenty warm. but these clouds have been really hanging on tough here this morning. not a big chance for rain even clouds. of th there are a couple of showers across parts of northern virginia but no everyone will get rained on today. the clouds have held temperatures down. re n with a south breeze, w only 64 degrees now in washington with a lot of clouds. and temperatures remain in e mid-60s where the clouds are thickest, but where the clouds are thin er and we have ext sunshine, and low 70s along the bay, low 70s on the eastern shore and where the sunshine is starting to come back now. petersburg, west virginia up to 70 degrees. so your planner then for tt res of the day, don't plan on much sunshine between now and about 2:00. i do think we'll have our skiesa brighten even with temperatures in the mid-60s, now i still think 80 degreeis easily within reach. the air mass is milder than earlier in the wk and this big

reports, it is sparking controversy. >> reporter: this 18-ye-old baz to graduate in atlanta and couldn't afford college if not for scholarships. >> do you beeve that students from higher socioeconomic background havee. an advant >> i believe they do. because of the resources they have. >> reporter: the college board is introducing an adveity score, a number between 1 and 100 using the crime rate and poverty l tel of students' home neighborhood ane quality of the high school and family income and environment. the school would -- the score would not be reported to students and parents, only colleges. >> how difficult is to put a number on adversity? >> i don't think it could reasonably be done. it risks dooreducing something that is very human to a number. >> reporter: as the college cheating scandal sparks focus on wealth and privilege and some universities face challenges to affirmative action policy. the college board said race is not factored into the adversity

weekends in a row, our rain diminishing. we've had rain here in washington seven consecutive fridays. seven in a row. that is crazy. and there is st a chance we could have a little rain here and there today but the chances fternoon washout are going down. that is news. and still keeping an eye out, and a chance of an isolated thunderstorm or twon later o in the day. but this weekend it is all about a little touch of summertime, that includes humidity arhend for tomorrow and for sunday. i think if yoour going to see rain over the weekend whichs not a guarantee, it is more likely on sunday than it is on monday. as high pressure really starts to settle intohe area. this little area of dying showers now across parts of central virginia, that is for the most part moving away from us. this is starting to dry up so sprinkles here from manassas but not into falls church. a couple of drops south of dulles airport but very low rain chances, our updated forecastm el to bring sunshine back by between 1:00 and 2:00 and any

cocktail program because we maki fant cocktails at night so we're really excited to be in both of those categories again. >> excellent. so you are prepping some stuff. so as you are doing this, i'm going to step back, you have a hot pan in the house. tell me about what kind of food you serve at royal and what you are making. >> today we're doing crispy pork belly with a dolche, a spicy sauce one latin st street corn and cilantro and lime juice with through nions to cut the fattiness of it. we have pork belly and some already done. and this is colombian-inspired cuisine. >> it is. our owners are from colombia. i'm definitely not. we try to stay in that general area. but there is a little bitf o something for everybody in the

restaurant. >> excellent. excellent. what else are you going to include in this? >> so right now we are going to go ahead and plate some up. i have some of the corn done -- >> i'm a fan. mexican street corner. >> and at home people could do it on a burnn their house or if they have a grill that is the best way to do it. >> very nice. so how long have you been with royal? >> i've been there for two and a half years. >> and what can you tell about the client c --lientele at parts of the dayor coffee and cocktails as it changes through tay. >> it is interesting. everybody during the day everybody has laptops out and drinking coffee and eating d pastries s the day goes on it changes to a lunch/dinner vibe and by night time everybody is having cocktails and it is a restaurant in every aspect of the day.

it can indeed be embarrassing and stressful if your four-legged friends or plunge -- lunges or badges at other animals on the lsh. becca is here from the rescue alliance to learn about reactive dogs and what could be done to prevent it and fix it. thanks for joining us today. >> thanks for having us. >> before we get to reactive dogs, tem us about sophie. >> so i have one of my favorites right now sophie. she is recently with us from our transfer in program available at our oglesberg location and she's so friendly with friends off leash and she's one of the regulars but will barkf ofe leash. >> so she is about 4 years old. >> we think soirks and up to date onn her shots. >> spayed and microchipped. >> i've had dogs my ole life and through no difference in training or raising, some have

been reactive and some are haven't and i wonder what is the best cure for the problem? >> i think the firstdo thing to is make sure you are reading it appropriately. people assume that reactivity means the dog is aggressive and that could sometimes trickle into it but it is justo ne. we're just a reaction. dogs are doing it out ofnxiety or fear or discomfort or treading the line between discomfort and i see that thing and it will make me feel a certain way and i'll be wild about it. >> what can you do as a owner to prevent the dogm f cesar milan will say red zone case and keep them in the green zone. >> i think walking with high value treats is important. rewarding the dog as sooeas thy see the trigger before they start reacting but never undervalue the importance of just creating space.ou turn ar and walk in the opposite direction is just as rewarding to a dogspecially if they are fearful reactive dog giving them a treat. often times they are saying, hey, i see you over there, don't

make me come over there i don't want to come over ther t >> sore is a difference between afid and aggressive, too. >> exactly. so the reactive again is just an obvious reaction to a trigger. and a lot of the times we see thattowards other dogs and could get tough in d.c. because it is such a dog-friendly city and when we're out in the summed with ours doing stuff, if you have an active dog that could be hard. >> absolutely. so maybe what -- is there a o piece equipment like sophie is wearing a harness. does that help? >> yes. and we typically recommend a ssont clip harne this is an easy walk brand and i personally use a freedom harness for my reactive dog. recommend that because it is better center of gravity attachment and redirect them toward you and comfortable for them. wen't recommend anything that will be painful like a prong or shock collar. hat might be helpful in stopping the reaction in the moment and that hurts and it doesn't teach them anything new. so we recommend using

appropriate front clip or a martin gale collar for your reactive dog. >> and i tell people meeting my dogs and i say yes, they are iendly. but they are mirror, if you bring a fearful energy to a dog they get very reactive automatically. >> sure. and sometes the reactivity comes from just i've been out and about in a busy city and i'm now overstimulated and it is important to remember that if you have friends with dogs on leash regardless and it is not fun if a strange dog wanders up to them and so keep your dog on a leash and be respective of other dog ownerven if your dog is friendly. >> good advice there. to see sophie or any other animals at humanerescuealliance.org. >> a lot to do this weekend. something old is new again on the water front in alexandria. people are horsind arou in maryland and it will be music to your ears in the district.
