now. >> strong windshave caused a giant tree to fall in bethesda. >> look at the side of that thing. this is on hollands drive not too far from the beltway. jackie bensen is there. everybody okay? >> reporter: yes, but a frightening sgeshs f ing experience for a teen inside home alone. she said that she was inside, thelights went out, she tried to figure it out and at some point realized that something was very wrong. here is how s describes it. >> i walked downstairs and i saw the window and i thought it was a fire and i looked rto theht and then there is the tree fell. and i just freaked out. i called my dad and i was like whereyo are are you coming? and i realized that he was too far so i called 911.

>> reporter: and again, very frightening experience forg tha yo woman. she is safe, her parents are here with. luckily as youcan see from chopper 4 above us, the tree did not cause much harm to that house. the homeowner told h wh and his wife moved here a year ago, there were three large trees on t ir property, she said i'm not moving in until those trees are gone. and luckily today the house spared. also they said it does not appear to be a lot of damage to their vehicles parked in front of the house. so right now a cleanup operation here. and as you mentioned, we are told this neighborhood where we are just off of old georgetown road does not have you power. jackie, thankyou. we just got off the phone with airport officials and we're told that the water pressure has dropped in dulles as the storms are passing through the area.

and then the cameras are actually at this one right here. a tree on a car, intersection of 11th road. and that is just in this area right there with one storm that came through, the same storm that promptedhe tornado warning for downtown d.c. now, this is the only storm in the game right you thousand done towardouthern st. mary's in noward parts of the northern neck. warnings with this. i'm kind of surprised good thab t but we're continuing to watch it. this line produced tornadoes back into parts of look at the line just move all the way across ohio. and then really develop through the area. really quite incredible. almost door derecho like. however it did not have thein damag winds back toward pittsburgh down to you aour are.

columbia. this was a tornado warned storm around columbia. look -- oh, wow. numerous trees down. this was definitely a tornado, i'll tell you right now. not justhat tree, but look how they are snapped off. go up just a lle bit. see how they are snapped off right at the base? right there in the middle. they are jhet snatcd. right there. and that tells me this was a tornado. alw, of course the nation weather service, they will be out there later this afternoon. probably later today or tomorrow. but when you see a tree snap, notice how these are not uprooted, these are snapped in the middle of the tree. that tells me that this was a tornado. really a hazing. we probably had winsd upwads upf 80 to 100 miles per hour.s >> and tell uhere this is? >> this is near columbia in

workman's compensation registration and insurance so that if anything happens, there is consumer protection there. >> reporter: consumers will be able to logon to a website to make sure that the company theyh arering is legitimate. a resource al didn't have two years ago ge. but happy to see in place now. and all because he n contacted 4 responds. >> this is really restitution for myself as well as all of those that are to can. i'm thankful for you all and the diligence that you helped me with to get to where we are at this point. >> and i want to commend nbc 4 and your efforts in terms of highlighting a problem because it has been a challenge. so we're hoping that this legislation will fix that. >> this is such a big deal.to into you law will go effect october 1. and this all started with a complaint to nbc 4 responds.

there was definitely a warning for a tornado up around the columbia area earlier. >> and we also had a tornado warning for the district. we're not really seeing any ntgns in the district yet that there was potelly a tornado out there, but regardless, the storm reports coming in, they keep comingin. a lot of trees down out there. >> and we'll show you what we're dealing with right now. the storms are gone. they wheare out almost complete. ok at all of the damage reports around our region. and i want to focus in on this area here. from parts ofgo montry county right through howard county, that was the storm that went tornadic. i do think that this will become a tornado around howard county, national weather service has to get out to see it. downhi around t storm through fairfax, a lot of trees down, a lot of wind. 70-mile-an-hour wind at the airport. look at this, we told you this was over nats park. and 54-mile-an-hour winds a little earlier with that storm.
