custody. they are still on the scene of this strip mall off route 50 here in the chantilly area. behind us you will see a group n ofstigators by a van just behind us,ld over my sh here. this parking lot is now ape s-crossed with crime all about it. we were told by police on scene that this area is very much an expansive crime scene. still trying to piece together d thetails of what happened here overnight. here's what we do know, however, that close to 1:30 this morning a man was shot in this parking lot. he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time after. we are told in the process of investigating that several people were take into custody by police. they have be at the scene a few hours after the reported shooting and remain here now at this hour. noio identificatn yet of the person who has died or what motive might have been behind the shooting. as you look like, investigators

up the damage today. take a look atvi some deo. we had a lot of tree damage all around the region. the national parks service saying that a lot of it occurred beten the lincoln memorial and the washington monument. here around the tidal basin in hanes point. really around the region a lot of trees down. big limbs down. in some cases blocking roads, in other cases blocking sidewalks. a lot of that has been moved out of the roadway so the major convenience pretty much gone at this point. but still a lot of cleanup to be done. we are expecting to hear theun sod of chainsaws as they clear some of the limbs and branches out of the way. keep that in mind as you're making your way to work this morning. you may see work crews out there. you may see the distraction of some of these trees down. i was along independence avenue. there's some big hunks of trees that had fallen down. a little bit ofst a diction. by and large, the roads seem to be open.

back to you. >> megan mcgrath, thank you. we continue our storm coverage in maryland now. cleanup is underway, as well, in howard county where the national weather service confirmed a tornado. you see some of the damage here way over way. this is not far from where routes 29 and 32 meet in columbia. a huge tree sliced through a house from the ro to the ground floor. the good news is no one was hurt. fast-moving storms leaving behind a trail of damage in the district. this tree went n on to a home on 18th place in southeast. neighbors tell us the storms were so strong, the building began to shake. the woman who lives next deer says she feared for her life. >> i didn't know whether they were going to make my life or not. very scared. was praying to god that i make it out of there. >> the homeowner s the tree had been leaning and that she called d.c. officials about it two weeks ago. no one lives in the home, but two menere working inside at the time. and they were not hurt. that same storm sy
