6:10 pm
welcome back. right now breaking, a tornado warning has been issued for parts of our area, including faquear county, until 6:00 p.m. a potenti tornado could be on the groundto i'm going zoom in, get a little closer to t area that's currently under the gun. at this point it's the area in the red cone. this is my storm tracker, that rotation you're seeing there, all this lightning, the strengthening of the storm tells me this is a very strong storm with the potential for an actual tornado to definitely be on the ground. let's turn off the lightning, let's turn off the storm tracker, and i'm going to even turn off the radar. we're just going to talk to myn friewho are in this red cone here. it's toofhe south front royal. and it's going into talking
6:11 pm
about care county along 522. fead to the lowest level in your home. eloads, fiery run road, up towards harrs corner road, down toward skyline drive. that's the area with major concern as areas of rotation are just over that area, as well as brown town road. zooming out you can see it's this cone here in red that is under tornado warning. and that is for talking about y, dear count parts of warren county. the next half hour, we're expecting this to continue to stay under warning. take aook at the velocity here. this looks a little confusing but i want to see where the possible rotation is. what we're looking for is where rets green. the brighter red right there along 522 south of front royali where we're seeing that rotation. that could mean that there's a potential storm -- i'm sorry,
6:12 pm
tornado, on the ground. so what you wanto do if you are in western faquear county and northern warren, head to tho the most interior room of your home, stay away from the windows. we'll back it up and go back to the radar here to track this storm. like i said, lot lightning. we've been seeing rorts of hail. wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour since it was back in front royal. so this is a very strong thunderstorto continuing trengthen a bit as we see all this lightning here with it. t i'm goi turn off the stormr trackeain just so i can show you guys that area of rotation concerning. it's right here. i'm going to zoom in one last time and do a ltle roll call. if you hear a row that sounds familiar to you u want head to the lowest level of your home right now.g this is al route 522.
6:13 pm
little way, huntley road, up towards go clan lane. a tornado warning has been issued for your area here. i'm going to reset. because some folks might just be tuning in. you can see that this is where the tornado warning has been issued for faquier county, parts of warren nty. that is a storm that's track together east now at about 25 miles per hour. with it we'veep gotten rts of 1-inch hail. we've also seen the report that this is radar indicsoed. it means that there's ap sible tornado on the ground. we're going to treat it like there is one on the ground. i'm going bk in now. i have my storm tracker on, the rotation that you' seeing where it says early. it's saying if there is rotation on the grnd in this storm, it is in its early stages. but still a very strong storm. we are -- there could be a -- it's capable of producing a tornado.
6:14 pm
so i'm going to turn the radar off again. we're going to go on loop here and i'm going to continue to say the areas that i think could be under that tornado circulation there. so route 522. this is south of front royal. front royal right now, you are not exactly under the gun unless you head a little farther south of front royal into skyline drive, brown town road. the primary area of circulation has continued to a little bit farther east. you can see that when i turn on the sweeping radar there. and so that broad area of circulation is where we could possibly see a tornado ground. so let's go back to calling out eighborhoods and roads and if they sound familiar or you live close to those roads head to the lowest level in your home. valley view drive. basically fall road. chesters gap road. winters mill road. sandy hook lane. this is right nows in far western faquier county.in
6:15 pm
i'm callg off a few roads as well. fiery run road. where fiery run road meets harrell's corner roa down toward hum road. all under the torardo wning at this point. this tornado warning, this storm that it's traveling with, had tons of lightning with it. very heavy rain. 1-inch hail reports have been reported. and we are seeing some rotation that has indicated that there is tornado possibly on the ground just to the south of front royal in northern rappahannock and pushing into faquier now, justo cring that county line where we're seeing that area of rotation. wre it's spinning, that's not where the actual rotation is, it would be back over here where we would be seeing that,so i am turning off the sweeping radar again. we're going to a call out few towns, a few roads. those are the areas where you need to head to the lowest level of your home. fiery run road. hum road.
6:16 pm
even out towards 552. so 552, that area is -- in northern rappahannock is undedo torwarning. take a look at the velocity. i turned this feature on earlier and it helps me kind of see where the rotation would be on the ground. it s oks kind of broad at thi point. but again, even though it's a radar-indicated tornado, we want to treat it like there's a tornado on the ground. earlier i gave you tips on what you want to do right now if you live in western faquier and rappahannock. head to the lowest level in your home, interior room, away from windows ou saw that i was repeatedly talking about route 552. if you know anyone who may be driving along that road, here's a few tings you can do when you're on the road during a tornado warning. you can head for the nearest sturdy building. worst thing to do is stop under an erpass.
6:17 pm
you want to go ahead and get off the highway as soon as possible and head for the nearest sturdy buildi t. and turn 103.5, wtop. we have meteorologists on the radio right now that are also keeng you guys up to date. those just tuning in, a tornado warning has been issued until 6:30 p.m. for western faquier county, northern rappahnock, and parts of warren county. zooming back into the actual storm that ha prompted th warning, it's a strong storm. and it has been strengthening for a bit. right now the area of rotation becoming a little bit more th broad, so is relatively good news. but what we're going to do is treat it like there's a tornado on the ground, so anyone in this red cone. i know this looks a little messy right now. i'm turning everything off so we can just see the areas under the gun at this point. back of theone to the front, skyline drive. youuys go to the lowest level of your home. where the threeo cties meet,
6:18 pm
rappahanno rappahannock, arren, and faquier, that area, if you live that area you want to head to the lowest level of your home. chester gap road, mountain lane, high ridge road, bear hollow drive, withers mill road, head to the lowest level your home. we have a tornado warning with a possible tornado. i was saying earlier, this storm is pretty strong. and at this point it is a broad area of rotation. but it's rotation nonetheless. enough to prompt the weather service to issue this tornado warning. if you live in front royal, you can see here i turned the radio, to the north of front royal, not under the tornado warning. just to the south of it under there as well that area of rotation pushing farther north, so they'll be dropping the back end pretty soon. but we are still seeing the tornado warning in effect for parts of warren county, western
6:19 pm
faquier, northern rappahannock. i'mbe volleying tween these trying to keeppdated on the latest with this storm as r as the rotation goes. seeing if it's strengths ing, if it'weakening. looking for the bright reds, where they meet the green. at this point, yes that rotation es look a little broad. head to the lowest level in your home if you live in weste faquier county, right now. you want to go to an interior rhom in the use. you want to remain calm. don't open any windows. stay away from the windows if you can as well. go to the most interior room in your home. you definitely don't want to be in a mobile home at this point. tornado warning has been issued for western faquier, parts of eastern warren aorthern rappahannock until 6:30 p.m., at least the next 11 minutes. it says -- we just got another warning. i'm sorry, not a warning, a
6:20 pm
message from the national weather service. ontinuing the tornado warning that has been issued for these counties until 6:30 p.m.th at is point hail in the storm. up to 1 inch big, wide. we're seeing lots of lightning. storms still very strong. don't follow so much -- let me ckturn that storm tra off. i don't think it's very accurate as far as where that rotation would be. we want to look closer to this area for tt area of rotation. turning off the lightning here. and zooming into that very heavy rainier that rotation. that core there, very heavy rain coming down. so now i want everyone who lives along fiery run road, hum road, cove lane, wispy mill lane.a if there is ornado on the ground, this is radar indicated. if there's one on the ground, wot uld be likely be in these areas. th why i'm getting pretty local local with it. marriott lane, head to the lowest level of your home.
6:21 pm
the bigger picture for friends who are currently under a tornado warning, it's to the west of marshall. marshall, you're not under tornado warning. you can see they just trimmed the back end off, as i was saying earlier. south of front royal, stay indoors, a severe thunderstorm warning in the area. buthe actual tornado threat has pushed farther east into this red cone here. that's good news. if you live south of front roya you're in the clea you're not in the clear if you live along fiery run road, hum road, down towards wine south lane, whiskey still lane, mare yot lane, kaiser road. you want to he to the lowest level in your home or to the most interior portions of your home. it's okay if you don't have a basement, just head into a closet. so they turned that off and, yes, still a little broad. but -- i'm sorry, hume road,
6:22 pm
folks. thanks for bearing with me. t head to lowest level. turn the volume fun you're headed to the basement to stay under the sound my voice and i'll let you know when you can come back upstairs. until then, for now, you want to stay in your safe spot. tornado warning in effect for western faquier and for parts of northern rappahannock at this point. they have taken it off for warren. nyone living in warren county who can get -- you are safe at this pointyou can come out. our friends farther into faquier -- >> hey, let me chime in here. because i know you're looking at mapsly simultaneond you're trying to get your bearings. let me give you a breather to recap what we have. we came on the airjust about 20 minutes or so ago under a severe thunderstorm warning and this has now morphedto a tornado
6:23 pm
warning. you hear the bells going off there in theea storm t 4 weather area. we've got a tornado warning in effect for at least the next seven minutes for western faquier county, parts of warren county, norern rappahannock. reports already of 1 inch of hail reported in that area. if you live in the front royal area, you are right on the tail end of this. but we continue want you to letn your guard just yet. there's still a lot of heavy rain happening in that area. you can see tamara zooming in on some of those areas. dark and bright red areas are really a focus this afternoon. as she's mentioned you want to go into the most interior room of your home or basement, a closet, something like that.mi we knew into this weekend that severe weather might be a possibility because it was going -- the atmosphere was b going sort of ripe for conditions like this with the temperatures being so, so warm. wead started off as a really beautiful day.
6:24 pm
and just about 25 minutes ago when we came on the air, we were coming into a severe thunderstorm warning. what you're looking at here is i-66 infauquier county. and we are seeing rainy conditions there. not a lot of folks on the w roadwaysch is good. within fauquier county is where that tornado warning is stffl in et for at least the next six minutes until we hear another update from the national weather service.ra tama, do you see anything else on your radar indicating hail? >> definitely indicating some hail with this one. rightow lots of lightning. the rotation a little bit on the broader side. but i do want to get back to maybe doing some roll calling here. we are seeing the area thatld wou potentially have a tornado onthe ground. we're looking at -- anyone who a,lives in this are sorry for pronouncing that incorrectly, it's hume road. i want you to head to the lowest level of your home.
6:25 pm
leaf manor road, head to the lowest level in your he. under tornado warning in western faquier, crest hill road where it meets lee's manor road, under that tornado warning.ll i urn the sweeping radar off so you can exactly see what we're dealing with here. it's this r cone. the yellow is denoting severe thunderstorm warning. the red cone is denoti where we are seeing the possible tornado on the ground here. zooming back in, hopefully i'm not making you dizzy here. getting hyperlocal. marriott lane, little long mountain road, heado the lowest level of your home, herford lane. the storms coming out from that way, if i zoom out, you can see storms.ne of it is starting to weaken. especially farther north up towards frederick and loudoun. it's starting to break apart a bit. that's good news for us.
6:26 pm
starting to see that weaken j a bit. loudoun county, you guys should be okay. we do have that tornado warning just to the south with th one storm that has 70-mile-per-hour wind gusts within the last half dhour. an capable of producing hail up to 1 inch. this was a strong one. stillretty strong. and has the possibility of creating that tornado on the ground. very interesting here looking at e.this rotation signatur let me turn that sweeping radar off one more time. we're looking at fauquier countywestern part of the coin, the tip of northern rappahannock county in this red cone. i'm calling off a few more roads that i think need to head to the lowest level of your homes. hume road. lee's manor. what just happened there, and i can see why, because that rotation looks very broad, not well defined. they are getting ready to expire

6:28 pm
on camera but the national weather service has expired this tornado. not very strong rotation with it. we did see osmething that p a possible threat. that's why a tornado warning was issued. this yellow tells us the storm is still severen evif there's not a tornado on the ground right now in far western fauquier county, we areg still seei storm that's capable of producing one. has at least one-inch diameter in hail. a ton of lightning, heavy downpours, damaging winds, 70 miles per hour gusts. this has expired. we're going keep you guys up to date here in the weather center if anything pops off. yooiknow what what i'm g to keep an eye on is tomorrow. this is actually good test for our folks in washgton, d.c. metro area. start to think about where your safe space will be in case a tornado warning do go into effect for our area tomorrow. so again, this tornado warning
