5:02. now to a sou washington neighborhood where people say they were terrorized by two pit bulls. >> yesterday the dogs attacked two people in one day.an one wom was seriously hurt. news4's justin finch is live at police headquarters with more. >> reporter: the owner has a lot of explaining to do from why their dogs were allowed to roam off leash to attack neighbors to suspected drug-making material found inside the house. first this surveillance video that shows a te boy taking his 6-month-old dog out for a walk. they are met by the bulls and attacked. we are hiding his identity, though. he injured his hands trying to save his dog. and this was the same day those same pit bulls attacked a neighbor said to be in her 50s to 60s, actually was taking out her trash. police were called. they did shoot and kill one of the dogs. the other was injured and is in

animal custody. on scene, thery same day, a turn in the investigation. sources telling news4 that d.c. police saw a search warrant of the home after finding evidencet of atial wide-scale marijuana operation. d.c. fire has mad has moved in to look at the home. the dogs and their neighbors have been a problem for a while. >> the grandchildren who play out here, they can't come play because of these dogs.e they leavhe front door open so that the dogs can jump over a proof gate. >> reporter: and just to give you a sense of the fors onity of the attack, the neighborhood is said to have used a trash can tr to fend off the dogs and still no match. she was attacked if in her beltways and hands, as well. she's recovering at that time. again, one of those dogs was shot and killed. the other now in animal custody. we're live here outside police headquarters. i'm justin finch, news4.

back to you. >> all right.t nk you. over in northeast washington, two dogs were rescued from a suspected dogfighting operation. the humane rescue alliance said at least one of the dogs had wounds nsistent with fighting. investigators also found dog-fighting paraphernalia. no word on if the owners will face e'arges. w learned a former government official is accused of sexually abusing a child at a restaurant in tinleytown. it allegedly happened at the chick-fil-a on wisconsin avenue tuesday. police say 39-year-old scott met go -- stt metjav made unwanted sexual contact and ran away. he was the deputyct di of advance. we reached out to the agency, and a spokesperson replied, quote, quote metjav resigned on may 6th, 2019. dhs is unaware of any allegations that occurred during his employment at dhs and is currently conducting an internae

this morning police are stepping up presence on macarthur boulevard where there were smash-and-grabrobberies. the doors were smashed out and cash stolen from the police are trying to figure out if a similar burglary on wisconsin avenue is related. >> certainly upset any time feel they can commit crimes like this that are so brazen. we're going to be responding with heavy patrols in the area. >> police have released urveillance video of a suspect wearing a gray hoodie. > 5:07. you may see a lot more red in the district. >> vdot is about toew launch n red bus lanes downtown. and they're meant to help speed up busesduring rush hour. news4's megan mcgrath is live in northwest washington now with neat drivers should know about these new megan, good morning. morning,er: well, go guys.

yeah, these lanes really stick out. they are painted bright red, the white lettering says "bus only." starting on monday, norm am drivers of regulartraffic, if you use the lane, you could get a $200 fine. the idea is to keep the regular traffic out of the far right lane so that the buses can move faster. cut down on the congestion. the lanes are on h and i streets .near the white house and this is a pilot t'ogram. i going to run through september. vdot says 70 buses an hour comet throughs area during rush hour, but many of them are only going about the miles an hour of because of alhe congestion. that's what they're trying to do here is get the crs out of here so the buses can pick up their speed. buses can use -- this bus will only during rush hour, rather, wi people can park during the

is morning a man is receiving medical treatment after the u.s. secret service says hn lit himself on fire the grounds of the white house ellipse. here's video owing the response to the scene yesterday around noon. tourists say the man looked like a torch with his entire body up de flames. one man ribed him as looking like a zombie, not running, but walking while on fire. the secret service and other federal officers quickly used a fire extinguisher to douse the blames. the national weather service will be in northern texas surveying storm damage. they're trying tofigure out whether a tornado is to blame for damage in canton, an hour southeast of dals. folks driving on a nearby highway say they ran for cover inside a restroom at a gas station. they said they could hear the buildipulling apart as the sto rolled through. no word on injuries this morning. uber is working to hold bh drivers and passengers accountable. soon the ride-share app could be removing bad riders fromthe app.

deadly discovery inside a spotsylvania county home. >> three people were found diad ide a home on arlene acheerts drive yesterday morning. according to ourt partners a d op, an infant and a toddler were also foun the home. they were unharmed and taken to the hospital for observation. the dead were 39, 34, and 14 years old. their names have noteen released. the county sheriff's office is classifying the dea as suspicious. and a scary ordeal in a neighborhood.. two dogs mauled a woman as she took out the trash. >> that wasn't even the first attack of the day. nashls said the animals have been -- neighbors said the animals have been terrorizing them for months. justin finch with more on the attacks. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. we have two pit bulls, two attacks in one day with two victims. one a teen boy, the other a womanin her 50s to 60s. neighbors say both attacks could

have been stopped in the dog owners did one thing, and that is restraints their pe we do have this surveillance video showing one of the attacks. teen boy whose identity we're concealing. he's taking his puppy out for a walk yesterday when he's attacked, pursued, as well, by those two pit bulls all the way to his frt doo he did suffer a hand injury. that same day,r, his neigh a woman in her 50s to 60s, also hurt at an ck. she was taking out her trash. she even tried to use the trash ocan t fend the dogs off. it did little to protect her. this happened in their neighbor off minnesota avenue in southeast. we also spoke with one man who described what he saw after the attack. >> when i came out, it was the end of the dogs mauling her, ane the police aulled up. when i was walking down to see -- talk to the police, the dogs came toward the officers. that's when the officer shot

miles per hour. now there's hope tha some red and white paint will helpinpeed th up. >> news4's megan mcgrath is live in downtown washington now with details on the new redus lanes. how does this work? > reporter: well,they're trying to move traffic out of these lanes so the buses can pick up the pace. you see, the lanes are obvious. they're inted bright red. you can see the lettering, it says "bus only." starting on monday, drivers who use thene dedicated las, they could face a $200 fine. the lanes, as you mentioned, are at h and i streets near the white house. the id isust to get regular traffic, regular cars out of the way so that buses can pick up the pace. three miles an hour during rush hour, that is not a good situation. they are trying to get the buses moving faster. the lanes areoing to be bus-only, though, just during rush hour. on the off-peak hours, regular cars can p rk in thelanes.
