afternoon and evening, a chance for stronger storms. some of those co on the severe side. so, again, that's what we're going to be watching as we head through the afternoon. i thought we could see a passing shower or two this morning. i'll show you why. let's head to our maps now. does it look hazy to you outside? that's because it is.ly we're actual seeing some smoke billowing in from alberta, canada, the upper levels of the atmosphere. so it may seem hazy last night, this morning. but for all and all, we're dry out there. looking good this morning. it is not bad. here is the storms that i was watching, i thought they woulda we as they crossed over the appalachians, that's what's happening now. still if you' around i-81, you could get clipped with a shower or two. these are weakening as they tend to do as they're pushing to the east. nothing else showing up right now. once that linepasses, again, i'll keep a chance of a sprinkle, maybe isolated shower before we go through noon. it is not going to be all that big of a deal. as we head toternoon,

review. once that is all put together, in a documented investigative file it will all be reviewed and determined what led up to th incident. >> the gunman's relatives posted a note on turday, offering condolences to the victims. >> we're learning more about some of the victims who were killed here. one of them christopher rapp was the former stafford county director of public works. in a statement,ea county lders praised his kindness. rapp had been working for less than a year as an engineer for e virginiah city government. we learned more about his life including his hobby of playing in the tidewater pipes and s. drum his friends say he joined that band after moving from stafford ounty. they tell uspp looked forward to playing in that band. >> wking into band practice, wearing his work clothes and changing in the bathroom.re ady to start working with the rest ofus, blowing pipes and beating drums. >> the band says they will play at hisfuneral, a memorial service for him will take place wednesday at the government

center in sfford. > now to a closer look at what we know about the suspected shooter. he's been identifi as dewayne craddock, a civil engineer at the virginia beach public pa utilities dement. officials say his pass gave him access to all floo and police say he fired atom ra still a mystery, though, what may have set him off. he was still actively employed on friday, butff city oials declined to speak on whether his job was in jeopardy or he had recently been disciplined. police say he used 45 caliber hand guns and semi-automatic. at least one of the guns was fitted with a silencer. -olice are interviewing craddock's corkers and searching through his emails, work space, and home looking for clues about why he did this. stay with news 4 as this story continues to develop. keep up to date onnb our washington app. turning to politics now. decis mn 2020,yland governor larry hogan is making it

official, he will not take on president trump for the gop nomination. he says he will focus on his second term as governor. the washington post first h reporting on intention not to run. hogan released a statement esterday thanking everyone who did want him to run. it reads in part, quote, itruly appreciate all the encouragement i received from people around the nation, urging me to consider making a run for president in20. however, i will not be a candidate. end quote. he told the associated press earlier this year that while he has serious concerns about mr. trump's leadership, he has nont iest in a, quote, kamikaze mission. let's tell you about another high school, meanwhile in our area, under constinction in pr william county and it is being constructed to meet the needs of a growing community. >> that's right. this one is in bristow, bristow area near jiffy lube live. but the iredistring plan comes with some folks protesting. h northern virginia bureau

chief julie carr more. >> reporter: the ceremonial groundbreaking for prince william county's 13th high construction already well under way in the bristow area. new schools mean new high school attendance boundaries. as usual, an emotional issue. >> we don't want to turn this into one community against another. >> reporter: that is charles ronco from stone wall. many in the stonewall community are speaking out about had they see as an unfair redistricting proposal. already the most diverse of the three schools, unr the proposal, the percentage of students with limited english from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and from minority g roups would jump. the other two schools, a drop. many ithe stonewall community argue diversity ould be shared. >> i believe and 50 years of studies have shown when we have greater diversity in a school system, it is the rising tide that lifts all ships. what we're doing with the plans

conference identifying those who died. >> we all ieve. ey leave a void we will never be able to fill. >> right now, police are still trying to figure out why this gunman opened fire. >> new details about the gunman and how the shooting spree was carried out. >> nbc's peteas williams hore on that side of the story. >> reporter: law enforcement officials say when dewayne craddock entered the building, he was heavily armed. his p s gave him access to all floors and police say he fired indiscriminately, everywhere but the basemen he was a civic engeer working in the virginia beach public utilities department. his phone message was still working saturday. as for what may have set him off, the police chief says craddock was still actively lsployed friday. but city officiaeclined to say whether his job was in o jeopardyr if he had recently been disciplined. police say he used two weapons like this in the rampage, 45

calibehandguns, semi-automaticmeaning they fired once each time the trigger was pulled. he also had several extended magazines or clips like these that can hold dozens of rounds, allowing more shots to be fired before reloading.at least one of the guns was fitted with a silencer like this to muffle the sound of gunfire. they're legal in most states including virginia, but must be federally registered. officials aren't saying whetr craddock registered his. gun control advocates say they're dangerous. >> because they reduce sound, law enforcement can't tell where the shotsre coming from. and as far as the potential victim, you know where the shooter is, how far away they are, or how close they are to you. >> reporter: atf says their popularity is growing with nearly 1.5 million now legally registered. >> that was pete williams reporting there. now, lice are interviewing haddock's co-workers and searching throughis emails, his work space, his home, looking for clues about why he did this and how long he had in

been planng to kill his fellow employees. six of the victims who were killed worked in the same department he did. stay with news 4 as this story continues to develop. keep up it date with all of the developments on the nbc ashington app. now to anupdate of a story we brought you live yesterday morning on news 4. a double tragedy for family in districtheights. they're still mourning the loss of a relative when a fire tore through their home early yesterday. relatives spent the day sifting through what was left of the home on thavenue in lanham. che mother and her twoildren were asleep when the fire started. they o ran outthe home, unhurt. a relative spoke to derrick ward about losing her father just months beforeosing her home. >> it was all sudden, you know, really didn't know what to do. so and this happening is, like, i don't even know what to say.

>> family has lived there for eight ars, they lost most of their belongings and now have to find somewhere else to live. fire investigatorsgare tryin to figure out how the fire started. and emotional tribute t d.c. honor student whose life was cut short at just 15 years old. maurice scott was kled just steps from his home. darcy spencer has the outpouring of support for his family as they cope with this tragic loss. >> i pray for the healing of the scott family. >> reporter: he was just 15 rs yeald, an honor student and aspiring basketball player. maurice stt lost his life just outside of corner store, steps from his home in southeast d.c. monique scott is his mom. >> i lost my son. he was really good to me. he was very -- he took care of me. he took trash out, he did his chores, he made honor roll. he did everything i ask of him. >> reporter: family, friends and classmates from somerset prep charter school gathered near his home to celebrate hilife.

they handed these d.c. police flyers with maurice's photo. police are offering a $25,000 reward for information in the case.da in southeast, rcy spencer, news 4. >> his school is organizing a march for maurice for this coming week. the principal promised students that maurice will not be forgotten. breaking news out of venice, italy this morning. >> a massive cruise ship plowed in a dock. derrick ward joining with us some amazing videos that are coming out, derrick. >> italian media reporting at least five people were injured in this crash. check this out. someone actually filmed the moment that the cruise ship hit. it happened around 8:00 a.m. local time and the footage shows the ship apparently unable to slow its momentum. bla blaring its horn as it careened into a smaller boat and the
