justin? >> reporter: so far, seeing buses come and go at a pretty good clip. here at the huntington south station. we can tell you this -- beginning today, express buses o ll leave from this station the pentagon, but those buses will now serve both the north and the south sides. as you b can seehind us here, not seeing many long lines, not many people waiting so far this morning here. but let's show you what metro is working to avoid. what we saw last week which was week one, major service overhaul as tey repair the stations here south of reagan national airport. long lines here at huntington last week. p something mostple did not want to see, a lot of frustration and confusion there. we also have this video that we founon line, on twitter from metro riders. one of them showed us this -- long lines during the evening commute from huntington, what

to you. >> all right. ank you. turning to a community in morning. people in virginia beach will return to work for the first time since fr's mass shooting at a government office. 12 people were killed. now we're learning more about the shooter, 40-year-old dewayne craddock. police say he e-mailed a resignatioletter hours before the shooting. around 4:00 p.m. police say he went into the office armed with two pistols. for 36 minutes he carried out a shooting rampage before h was shot and killed by police. christi dewar survived. she says a male co-worker told her to hide inside an office and barricade the door. >> it was not too long after thatoewayne tried t come in, and he fired four shots. i looked up, and two of the shots had almost come through the cabinet. >> police say there was no indication craddock targeted ifically.

hiker in hawaii who spent more than two weeks last in the woods. anda eller is apologizing and admitting she waspoirresnsible. in a video statement, eller says she should have taken her cell phone and water on her hike in the maui jungle. she was lost for 17 days. the yoga teacher says she fell into a ravine between waterfalls and became stuck. >> that day i never intended to go on any kind of spiritual journey, spiritual xperience. it was definitely just a hike through the woods. i am in awe and gratitude for all of the love and support that i have received. >> eller suffered a fractured leg, severe sun burn, and a engii engine infection. today we're hoping to learno more at a house fire that left 11 people without a place to stay. this happened last night on everyone made it out safely. the red cross is now helping the people impacted. this morning, investigators are still trying to figure out hat caused a fire inside a lanham home. this happened on saturday

[ cheers ] you htr all tha cheering? how is that for a graduation surprise? retired miami heat nba legends yane wade gave the commencement address at marjorie stoneman douglas high school yesterday. his connection to the school is rooted in tragedy. one of the victims of the massacre was a huge fan and was buried in wade's jersey. during his speech, wade talked about his visits with students shortly after the tragedy. he spent hours at the school giving an impromptu pep talk in

closed. some people had to be rescued by boat. no injuries have been reported. in arkansas, floodwaters tore a 40-foot hole in a levee near the arkansas river. the rising water is threatening some 800 homes in the area.cr >> zy. >> it's not a short-lived problem. this has been going on a long time. the mississippi river there at s st. louis h been above flood stage 80 days in a row. seconds highest level in 2 -- second highest level in 200 years of keeping records, second only to the flo of 1993. crazy. that's a long-term event. not just the mississippi, the arkansas, the missouri river. outside those are way of their banks. all part of our changing limate, unfortunately. they have you have to start figuring out how you can cope with these things. a new flood wall helps, but yikes. every time these happen more and more frequently, it's bad news for erybody. right now, 59 cool and comfortable degrees here in washington. north winds are light for now. it will be a breezy afternoon

republic. good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning. yeah, a lot o unanswered questions with all of this. and a prince george's county family is hoping to learn either today or tomorrowanhen they c bring the bodies of their loved ones home. 50-year-old cynthia day and her fiance, 63-year-old nathaniel holmes, were found dead in their hotel room at the hotel in the dominin republic last ursday. now according to dominican today, a local news service in the area, the bodies showed no signs of violence. the family says they still don't know what happened, and they're just shocked and devastated by the loss. day and hoemps had been posting pictures of their vacation on facebook, lots of shots of them at the beach, smiling, having a good time. refbts sa relatives said they were really enjoying themselves, and they just don't know what happened here. again, later tod our perhaps tomorrow the family is hoping to get somere mo information and

learn when they can bring the bodies of their loved ones home. >> thank you. it is 6:34. back to the severe weaer that moved through our region last night. several people were injured by a lightning strike in prince william county. the national weather service says the incidentap hened at a picnic pavillion at the state park south of woodbridge. one person was struck and is being treated for serious injuries. four others were hurt by debly. they were all sheltering from the storm when the lightning hit. meanwhile, w powerfulds uprooted huge trees in parts of the region. a tree fell into this home under constructn causing extensive damage in the aspen hill area. downed trees and power lines caused problems for people in and around the area. you can see more images from the damage in the nbc washington app. this morning no arrests have been made after someone fired

shots a tow truck in prince george's county. this happened yesterday i afternoonn langley park near jasmine terrace and riggs road. the diver was trying to tow a car when the shooting happened no one was hurt. a louisiana catholic school principal has resiged after being arrested for public intoxication while on a school field trip here in d.c. michaelcomeau was arrested early thursday at archibald gentlemen's club in northwest after police received a report of a drunk man who did not want to pay his bill. the incident happened while the students on the trip were in their hotel rooms for the night with oth chaperones. it is 6:35. here's a look at the other tops ies this morning -- two people arrested in connection to a missing mother from connecticut will be in court today. 50-year-old jennifer dulos hasn't been seen since may 24th. er are esanged husband -- her, stranged husband and hisgi rlfriend were arrested. we'll have more on the ".day" show president trump and the first lady have landed in the

u.k. under heavy security. this is both a ceremonial and official visit forhe t president. it's also expected to be a controversial one. peter alexander more on this coming up in just a few minutes. thel federaiation administration plans to order airlines to remove and replace boeing manufactured parts that could be susceptible to premature failure. yesterday the faa said that more than 300 boeing 737 jets including the max jets mayave faulty wing parts. e boeing 737 max has been involved in major deadly crashes in ethiopia and indonesia. today stay out of the designated bus-only red lanes on some of the busy streets in d.c. the city is testing bus-only lanes along stretches of h and i streets during the morning and evening commute. we can expect more bus-only lanes in the coming months. you could be ticketed $200 or towed if you drive or park in the lanes. a pilot program runs through september. coming up on 6:37 now.
