minutes as the man unloaded two 45 cal per handguns. one equipped with a silencer. he engaged with aun battle with police firing through doors and walls. >> our suspect was not lacking for ammunition. m from more death is time.ed and we had to reduce the amount of time. >> reporter: police eventually shot the man. died athe hospital. a note left at his home by relatives offered condolences to the victim's families but no clues to explain the rampage. investigaors say they don't know why. they say he was not facing disciplinary issues but had resigned earlier in the day by email. >> he was not terminated ande was not in the process of being terminated. >> reporter: this morning four victims remain hospitalized. all init cral condition. 12 will never return home. as this community asks why.

>> christopher is among the shooting victims, the former stafford director of virginia beach. he loved to play the bag pipes and was part of a local pipe group. a memorial service is on wednesday at the government center. before president trump and the first lady left for england they took time to remember the shooting victims. the president made an unannounced stop at a church in vienna. the white house says the presidentto wanted isit with the pastor and pray for the victims of the virginia beach shooting. new this morning, the u.s. secret service says it arrested someone last night near the white house. in a statent officials say the person stopped a car at 17th street and pennsylvania avenue around 8:30 last night and just left it there. officials say the driver then refused commands from officers. the secret service says the car was latereclared safe. president trump was not in the white house during the time of this arrest. turning nowo t the commute

during metro's blue and yellow line shutdown. last week was painful for metro ers trying to go between the huntington and pentan stations. >> metro is tweaking the express shuttle. justin finch is live at the station with a look at the impact so far. justin, good morning. >> so far looking around here, it appbers to working. not a lot of people waiting for the bus at this point. essentially last week metro had aoblem. they had a lot of riders and not enough bus access. he buses were filling up fast creating a backlog of full buses, long wait times, and you can guess the res well fast forward to today. metro's learned they have doubled the access to shuttle buses here to the pentagon on the north and south sides. >> all aboard and aboard and

welcome back. there's a lot of cleanup following yesterday afternoon's storms. >> it knocked out power to thousands ofeople and caused a lot of damage. news 4 shows us some ofus. >> reporter: it started with hail and wind. the storm knocked down trees all over this neighborhood. and irnthe district off wes avenue. trees and brarchgs down. some of them blocking roads.ro utility ds sagging to the ground causing out najs. a tree fell into a house after a little girl's birthdaypa y. >> was everybody home when it happened? >> yes. yes. we opened her present because ht was birthday party today. you know, we heard the noise, the hail, and then we went out and look at it. >> reporter: neighbors came out to look at the damage and make sure everyone was oka >> tell us about the damage to your house. >> reporter: well, we still don't know.

any dents. darcy spencer, news 4. >> a lot of debris. >> did you say the hail yesterday? >> i was telling pat i saw i can't remember the last time it was that bad. >> an inch and three quarters in some spots in montgomery county. that's huge. and we thank goodness don't have anything like tha today or tomorrow. >> no more coming? >> not yet. of course we're entering the summeime pattern. > hail? >> a little bit of hail coming through our area. but as we get the thunderstorms, we see winds and hail.a that's what constitutes a severeunderstorm. it's either if you have inch sized hail or if you have winds over 57 miles per hour or you have an isolated tornado. one of those constitutes a severe thunderstormrning. that's when we see them pop in the area. beautiful out there. today we have plenty of sunshine out there. blue skies. and temperatures staying

slightly below normal. frontal system came through yesterday. that's what brought the severe weather. and then behind it looking aot nicer. the humidity ends up by the time we head to we'll have daily chances of storms wednesday, thursday, friday, all the way through the weekend. so as far as getting your car washed, go for it. we don't have any rain until we head into your wednesday. nothing out there right now. high pressure in charge. if you travel on this monday, looking good even at the area beaches. looking completely fine and dry. it's cool, though. those temperatures are in the 60s and 70s right now. we're topping out in the upper 60s to the mid 70s for daytime highs today. as far asur forecast, 75 here in d.c. but i think if you're in the shenandoah valley your temperature is going to stay in th upper 60s. beautiful today. we have the winds. northwest winds at about 10 to 20 miles per hour. higher gusts as well. could be brisk at times. those settle down after about 8 p.m.

again, it is a little cool on the school side. the average temperature is 80 here in d.c. we'll head to about 75. in the shenandoah valley you may stop in the upper 60s. a good five or ten degrees below normal. winds settle downutfter abo 8:00 p.m. sun doesn't go down until 8:30. plenty ofsunshine. it is going to be cold overnight with light winds, clear skies hed the temperatures falling anywhere from t 30s to the low 50s. no rain out there. no clouds. maybe a few high puffy clouds. other than that fair weather clouds looking good. 77 degrees the daytime high. we're not having the wind. temperatures a touch warmer and we'll have plenty of sun shine with low humidity. into wednesday the frontal system pushes through the area and scattered showers as we head through the day onsd wedne. it will be warm. we could see a few thunderstorms as well. we have to keep chances of rain through your thursday, through your friday. it's not raining the whole time.

green onions put it on some grilled country bread with a dill mayonnaise a then finally melt it with cheese. >> sounds delicious. >> first we start with the grilled country bread. > and something thicker to hold the ingredients? >> it is. nice thick based ingredients. and then we would saute off in a pan, we would saute it with butter and our jumbo lp crab, roasted fennel, green onion. we finished it with lemon juice and salt and pepper. then we take our dill mayonnaise with a little bit of dill, lemon zest. a little bit of garlic. slather the bottom of the toast. >> you just put it on the bread first? >> yes. we take a slice of trefresh tom, and then cover the toast with ae much crab as we can.
