the attack when investigation is not even finished. behind these walls a mystery. and now the first look inside of a resort where three americans died in a span of less than a week. in differentotels only minutes away from eacher o first from pennsylvania died on may 25th. ficial reports from her family says she died of respiratory failure. the same thing dominican authoritiesay killed a recently engaged couple from row. mar bor they were found dead in the room on may 30th. but now the hotel in a statement says shomwas ill fr the moment she got to the hotel and that her husband said she had a pre-existing heart condition. the hol says she died from a heart attack. but a spokesperson for the en attorney gal of the re dominican public says she does not understand why the hotel is commenting on the manner of death when the investigation is not even finished.

continuing coverage of his reports coming up on news 4om today fr the dominican republic starting at 4:00 a.m. we go to breaking news righe in the district. tonight a double shooting that left one man dead and sent a young victim to the hospital. >> the gunfire erupted around 8:30 this morning around 22nd street in southeast d.c. new information fro officers on the scene. >> reporter: good evening. right now we're here on the 3500 block of 22nd street southeast by the orchard apartments. a crime scene officer put up the crime scene tape right here. you have homicide detectives, forensics, crime scene investigators who are gathering evidence. we know that around 8:30 tonight someone opened fire killing a man. police also say a juvenile, a teen walkedto a hospital with a bullet wound. that teen is going to be okay. now, a detective tells me there were a lot of people out here at the time.

firefighters say could have ended differently. >> reporter: it's the sound that saes lives, the striking blare of a smoke alarm. but d.c. fire officials tell news 4 that in two separate fires in the district tuesday in which tragical two lives were lost there was no functional smoke alarm in either home. on lawrence street southeast aman and his mother were asleep when a firewas discovered around 4:00 a.m. the man was aable to escape safely but hist er did not survive. hours later in the 5200 block of western avenue northwest i district another fire. this one also proved fatal, killing the home's occupants and hisdog. >> it was very shocking for sure and sadly we didn't get to knows him well as we would have led to. >> reporter: despite new safety laws a smoke alarm without a working battery remains a not uncommon problem in thec. d.
