however, instead her family watched in shock and dismay at what unfolded. news 4's jackie bensen was there for the hearing and joins us live from the courthouse in fairfax. jackie. >> reporter:t this was j cruel blow to a family who now has to relive their nightmare through a trial. the man charged with strangling 16-year-old joely moussa and leaving her body in a park in fairfax county decided to change his mind at the last minute. joely disappeared under mysterious circumstances in january of 2018. her family including her twin sister were beside themselves with wry because it wasso out of character for her. >> she was doing my hair and she stopped to text someone. out oout of nowhere she was, li i've got to go. >> reporter: after the tragic discovery of her body in a

fairfax county park almost two weeks later, her then 17-year-old ex-boyfriendec immediatelye a suspect. he was already facing charyss of phically assaulting her a few weeks earlier. he was arrested in august of 2018 after he finished serving time for the earlier assault. police say he confessed to luring joely out of the house with a snapchat conversation the night she disappeared, then sent her twin a text saying she'd gone to rich mon for a party. since hereath her family bmembers haveecome advocates urging police on how to handle the cases of missing teenagers. co yng up we will tell a little bit more about how joely's family is doing that advocacy on behalf of missing teenagers all while they now deal with this agony of a trial. something that could have bn ver today, they could have listened to that plea, now they'll be back here and it could be up to eight day two weeks while they relive their nightmare again. live at the fairfax county ,

three spotsylvania county residents last week. the medical examiner's office now reports the adult male victim, michael coleman, died from a cut to the neck. earlier this week we told you that was calso these of death for the other two victims, coleman's female partner and her 14-year-old son. all thrths have officially been ruled homicides. a relative found their bodies in a rural spotsylvania county home. so far no arrests. a west point cadet ded and 20 others were hurt in a crash this morning. the rising seniors were riding in a tactical vehicle near a training site when it flipped over. two soldiers were driving. one else was seriously injured. the cause of the crash is unknown. well, it is a monumental day in world history. the 75th anniversary of d-day, the allied landing atnormandy. >> that's right. at the world war ii memorial here this morning, dozens of oo

y3a5wy y16fy ez with erika gonz breaking news here at the live desk. we'll show you live pictures coming from frederick, maryland, where there's been a sml plane crash at the frederick municipal airport here. you're seeing these pictures courtesy of chopper 4. there were two people on board this plane and we're told that both of them escaped wh minor injuries. somehow this plane, chopper 4 starting to widen out the y picture so can see the scope of the area there where the runway is and where that plane landed in relaton to that. we're told that the plane apparently struck some construction equipment and it caused th plane to flip. somehow it didn't make it on to that runway. maryland state police investigators are headed to the scene, but the important thing here is that the two people who were on board escaped with minor

the weather is looking good for the pride parade. saturday the day you cut your grass. 8:00 a.m. we start off at 70. partly to mostly cloh y skies wite high around 85. it's warm and not too humid. it is dry. not the case on sunda 30% chance you're dealing with a shower before noon and then we'll have occasional rain after lunchtime on sunday. we start off at 67. we only warm into the mid to upper 70s. it's a bit breezy out thereoth aturday as well as sunday. but again, the rain falling on sunday. if you're heading to the pool this weekend, it's going to be nice saturday. not a ton of sun out there. you won't be baking. if you're heading to the beach,s temperaturat our local beaches in the low to mid 7 with rain likely on sunday. i'm throwing the beach sweatshirt in the bag. if you want to cut the grass on saturday, you don't have torr woy about it sunday. doug talks about thetl unset pattern.
