but officers did arrest one person they believe had a weapon. several people were transported after getting injured during the chaos. and take another look at the frenzy. thiis an aerial view of people running away near 18th and q streets outside dupont circle. and our cameras catching another disturbance during the mayhem. officers struggling to take one lman into custody. police arrested atst two people. news 4 at 11:00 begins with breaking news. anothergle showing you people at the pride parade running as fast as they can after unconfirmed reports of shots fired. a day of loved inclusiveness is overshadowed by panic at the capital pride parade. good evening, i'm even rika gonzalez. police are disputing shots were fiowards the end of the parade. darcy spencer spoke with officers on what they say happened this evening.

day? >> reporter: well, erika, there was panic, there was worry, there was fear.m nuous people told mel here tonight that they absolutely feel that they heard shots fired, but d.c. police at a press conference late this evening said that was not the case. there is no evidence, like you said, that any ots werefired. no indication, no gun shell casings, anything like that being found, but becauseth of panic, there were numerous people that took off running, some of them were injured. some had to be transported and some were treated for their injuries right here at the scene. a man with a gun was arrested in dupont circle, forcing the capital pride parade to be shut down. despite multiple reports o loud noises, police say no shots were fired. >> officers arriv at the location of where the individual was located. at that point, they stopped that individual and they recovered a gun close by. >> reporter: the man was charged withse posing a handgun.

a woman was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer. it's unclear if the man and woman knew one another. >> the nation's capital, this happens, yoknow? crazy. people can't come out and have m good ti then -- i probably stay in atlanta and just do the one inatlanta. >> reporter: false reports of shots fired caused a panic. hudreds of people began to run, causing numerous injuries. >> i went inside and got on the floor with people who had come from dupont circle and said there had been a shooting, butu yo know, we didn't know anything. >> everyone's like, coming up q street and down the other street down there and just, like, in panic and everyone screaming and we didn't know what was going on. >> reporter: seven people were transported. this victim suffered an ankle injury. >> i just -- i just had this guy kind of at my back, he was likem on, get inside, get inside, and i remember in school we were told get inside, so, actually, when i went to the bathroom, i felt the safest. >> reporter: the parade was forced to end early for safety

reasons, but the head of the capital pride alliance says this weekend's events will still go er. >> we need evody to understand that we will try to do everything to make sure we have safe events. we cannot allow this incident to take away the pride we have going on. and ho be st, we had a great parade that waspl taking ace, so, it's very sad we had to close it and we're very hurt to do tha >> reporter: it certainly was. it was the last thing they wanted to have to do today as to cancel this huge parade. now, i asked d.c. police what was the motive, do they think this gunman had anything to do with the pride parade, was he motivated in any way towards the pride parade.at they say this still under investigation. erika, back to you. >> you know, any time you have an event of this magnitude, a parade, a concert, a sporting event, we know there is an increase of police presence, so, talto me about how that changed the response time for this and does this impact at all the festivities tomorrow. >> reporter: well, that's right, erika.

we did ask police about their response, and as you can ere was a huge police presence already here, so we were told that police did not have to wait for a al11 c they actually heard people yelling, there's someone with a gun, shots have been fired, so, they ran directly to that area and were able toke this man into custody pretty quick little and find that gun near him. as for the additional events, we know the big fesstval, pride al, is happening tomorrow. and i'm told that will go on as planned. and they already have a plan in place for a lot of police, a lot of security, and again, they say, that will go on as usual. >> could have been a very different turn of events. so glad everybody is okay. darcy spencer live for us tonight. thank you. and d.c. mayor more yule bowser tweeted injust the last 30 minutes or so, praising first responders for their quick action. s emphasized, i should say,th said she empathized withy

police in annapolis are working to find a shooter who killed a local rapper. our news partners at wtop are reporting that tre da kid died after crashing aca he was found dead inside the kaur on forest drive and cherry grove avenue. those who knew himhe say worked with kids and he was known an.a family ma we're working to find out what the motive was behind his murder. as d.c. grapples with a recent spike in shootings and homicides, today there are new calls to end the gun violence. members of therk view community in northwest held a march to end the violence. they also paused to remember 16-year-old brion austin. the teen died when he was killee inside his ho and police have not found the shooter yet. remembering the people killed on oneof the most dangerous highways in our region. the new effort to improve safety on that stretch of road.

news 4 has launched a sere reefs dedicated to our changing climate. right now, the white house is locked in a controversy over its efforts to bury information about the phenomenon.hi "the wasngton post" reporting the whe house prevented a state department intelligence agency from submitting written testimony to a house committee this week. the statement had dire warnings about the effects of human-caused climate change. it said because of risingarbon e missions, there could be, quote, significant and possibly catastrophic harm.ra administon officials said the statement did not jibe with the white house's official stance on the issue. in an nterview while overseas this past week, president trump himself dismissed climate change, he said he belies weather, quote, changes both llys. military and inteigence officials warn climate change could undermine america's national security. for more on climate change's impact, you can open our app and
