scherzer broke his nose and what it means for the star pitcher. that's ahead in sports. >> i stand before you to officially launch my campaign for a second term as president of the united states. >> president trump and vice president mike pence want four more years. they launched their 2020 re-election campaign tonight in orlando, florida. news 4's leon harris joins us from the newsroom with more on that story. we know when the president talks to his base he likes to focus on immigration. that crowd heard a lot of familiar themes tonight. >> that's right. in fac one nbc news producer said it was like a rock concert. the president came out and his greatest hits, th crowd loved it, but there wasn't a lot of new material. in fact, there was a lot of talk about the last election. president trump called his win in 2016 a defining moment in american history np in nearly an hour and a half on stage he revived familiar themes, going after hillary clinton and robert mueller's russia investigation.

and in a preview of what we can expect in this campaign he and vice presidentke mi pence bouh warned democrats turning america into a socialist country. listen to what he said about democrats and our border with mexico. >> the demagratda of open borders is morally reprehensi e reprehensible. people are pouring in. but we've stopped them. and now as i said we have other people helping us including the country of mexico. let's see how it wt.ks >> reporter: one thing that was different was the thing that brought the biggest cheer of the night from the crowd. that came when outgoing press secretary sarah sanders appeared on stage. the president again touting her possible run asovernor of arkansas. and while tonight may have been his first 2020 campaign rally officially, it's important tohi note t president has never really stopped campaigning. in fact, he filed for his 2020 election paperwork on the day of his inauguration in january of 2017.

but exactly where that rain sets up nearly impossible. it justen so happ that today the rain fell in very similar places as yesterday. friday is looking gorgeous. saturday is looking really nice too. some good news. sunday is looking mainly dry. we did have some storms in the forecast yesterday for sunday. not the case anymore. you can see noefrn virginia now mainly dry. still rain impacting parts of mmaryland. so light showers out there even in parts of the district. this is future weather. storm at noon notice we're seeing some sunshine out there. and namely dry conditions. i think most of the daytime tomorrow's going to be completely dry. i know a lot of kids are out of school. you want to go to the playground. b think you're going tofine especially during the morning, midday and afternoon hours. once we hit 3:00 p.m. we'll see some thunderstorms and showers develop. we'll be dry around the d.c.

metro area around 6:00 or 7:00 at night. once we hit 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. notice the color showing up. that's the potential for some very heavy rainfall to be moving through the area. at 11:00 p.m. still some showers out there. and then overnight we dryout, only to go through the same song and dance again on thursday. a high tomorrow of 84 degrees. we'll have a mix of clouds and sunshine with storms most likely during the evening hours. just a chance for storms through 4:00 p.m. right now our temperatures are generally in t low 70s after a high today of 88 degrees at reagan national. so again, if you're heading to the pool tomorrow o the earlier the better because these storms really favor the late afternoon and evening hours. better chance for severe storms on thursday versus wednesday. friday it's breezy, ini's e, it's beautiful, and we're going to really appreciate that after a high on thursday of 91. 84 on y.frida saturday we lose the wind but keep low humidity levels with plenty of sunshine, highs in the mid 80s. upper 80s on sunday.
