> good morning, welcome to news 4 midday. the fbi has searching the home of d.c. en couilmember jac evans. this comes just one day after he resigned frommetro's board as he faces allegations of multiple ethicsviolations. we have news 4's mark sea graves from the scene there and hastc wang people come in and out. reporters camped out waiting to see if we'll hear from jack evans himself today, mark? >> good morning, this all started about 6:00 this morning, when the fbi knocked on jack evans door. these reporters left behind waiting to see if evans will come out. fbi agents closed off this entire block here in georgetown as they searched his home for hours. we caught a glimpse of evans walking into the house this morning, wearing a gray t-shirt.

we tried to talk to his long term attorney who showed up here. again, the fbi were here all morning, we saw them coming out of the house with several evidence envelopes and boxes. the fbi will only say they were hge conductin an investigation as part of a court authorized action. now, we did talk to and got some reaction to this activity in the georgetown neighborhood.wh here's one neighbor told us. >> this definitely is not a normal friday morning in the neighborho neighborhood. but i think it's necessary, and i certainly -- y know, there's credence to any of these accusations or whatever the fbi might be investigating, i w icomet. >> we can tell you that a spokesperson for jack evans tells us the fbi did not search his d.c.ouncil fice. only his home here in georgetown. no further comment from jack evans or his attorney. this all comes a day after he

resigned as a member of the metro board after allegatio of ethics violations there, and there is an ongoing federal grand jury investigation in he same type of activity with allegations that possibly evans may have used his authority on the d.c. council to help businesses on the d.c. counl. have you to go back to 2011, the last time a sitting d.c. r councilmemd his house searched by a member of the fbi. that happened decemr of 2011, one month later, january 2012, harry thomas jr. was charged with crimes, went into court and ended up pleading guilty and resigning. >> mark, that's going to be a story and a scene we will be following today. turning now to a developingt story that world is closely watching, the rising tensions between the united states and iran. donald trump took to twitter

this morning, to respond to a new york times report that he approved military strikes in retaliation for downing u.s. drone. but called it off. we were cocked and loaded to retaliate last night. here's richard engel with more on this story. >> reporter: a reprisal attack against iran for shooting down an american drone in the persian gulf was underway overnight. the new york times reports, planes in the air, warships in position to eye tack, iranian radar instillations. as late as 7:00 p.m., u.s.of cials were expecting a strike until it was called off with no shots fired. the new york times citi multiple senior officials n involved i or briefed on the deliberations. nbc has not independently confirmed the report. >> i would imagine it was a general or somebody that ma a mistake in shooting that drone
