along route 211. jonathan kite, the assistant principal at breyer woods high school in loudoun county was one of those killed. investigators say kite ran off the road and collided head on with another vehicle. both drivers died at the scene. hthe impact of the crash waanother driver, but she s not hurt. a frederick county, maryland community is mourning the sudden loss ofo vinvolunteer firefighter. the body of michael powers was escorted to the medical examiner . witnesses say powers bent down to clear some debris from the road and collapsed. he was a member of a liberty town volunteer fire department. update this morning to story we have been covering. we now know a woma died in monday night's crash on the bw parkway. a suspect on the run from police hit her car in green belt near the ramp to 495. the woman hasn't been

identified. earlier in the evening, the suspect allegedly ran into a police cruiser in northeast d.c. a tip helped detectives find a woman caught on camera lighting a fire intm an aparent buildice lobby. poli say that lakesha hazelwood set the fire that damaged a building last monday. on pennsylvania avenue southeast. more than a dozen windows were blown out and there was smoke damage throughout the building. no one was hurt. metro's police cef is asking the u.s. attorney's office to review this stun gun case. a man was tased by a transitff oer over the weekend. the man said he was trying to nglp a group of teenagers he thought was bei treated unfairly by police. metro originally said he was interferingith an investigation. charges have been dropped against the passenger and the teens. the national rifle association is pulling the plug on nra tv. >> according to "tew york times" many mra board members

have been concerned that the production strays far beyond gun rights. here is a look at nra tv's youtube page. rathe times reports the n plans to send a letter to members today announcing this split. dea's chief executive says the organization is unoing a significant change in its comnications strategy. it's now 6:07. one of d.c.'s longest-serving elected officials is ready to talk. d.c. councilman jack evans is accused of using his position for personal gain. tuesday he pled with otherco uncil members not to strip him of a powerful committee post. he says he didn't dong anythi wrong. >> i believe that if my colleagues hear my side of the story and i respond to all of your questions, you will not take any action at this time. >> evans will meet next week with council colleagues. the council will decide a week after that whether to sanction him. >> senateri maty leader mitch mcconnell making some promises to 9/11 responders just weeks

t kids should be riding in the direction of traffic and should always stay alert. robo call scams cost americansillions of dollars each year. now the ftc says its cracking down on some of the worst offenders. the ftc announced yesterday it filed nearly 100 legal actions against operations responsible for more than a billion illegal robo calls. this is part of a new joint initiative with law enforcement called operion call it quits. officials say the nationwide sweep is a step in the right direction. >> w will never stem the tide of illegal r cboalling until we prove we have the resolve and the wherewithal to make offenders pay. >> officials say the best way to cut down on the number of robo calls received is to block those numbers ll s-bcking dyoevuricetm on your land line. if a roboon call gets through, report it to the ftc. so annoying robo calls.

one and all morning long i have been watching people go by riding these electric scooters. now, with the rise in popularity, though, some on the d.c. council are saying thatge channeed to come in the rules and regulations to keep everybody safe. and we' expecting that a bill will be formally introduced in the fall to do just that. take a look at the specifics here. now, if hepassed, t bill would ban electric scooter use from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. you wouldn't be able to ride them overnight. it would establish a hot line for reporting illegal parking, reduce the sidewalk speed limit to 6iles an hour and increase the street speed limit to 15 miles an hour. the bill would also payment to cover damage that might occur to any public ou property if yot into trouble there with your scooter. now, electric scooters are relatively new to the io transportatscene. last couple of years, but they're very, very popular. we're seeing them everywhere. the idea here is that laws,

charges. one of the wo en did file a restraining order against starr-street. we have reached out to him, but have not heard back yet. it's now 6:36. here is a look at the other top stories we're following this morning. police have released more information about monday night's deadly crash on the bwparkway. a woman was killed. officers say they were pursuing the car that hit her. she has not been identified, but the suspect was also injured. he is recoverin in the hospital. well, police say they have arrested this woman lakeish hazelwood of southeast d.c. and charged her with arson. they say she set a fire that il damaged a bung on pennsylvania avenue last monday. no one hurt. the building did get that smoke damage and more than a dozen of the windows were blown out. officials say tips from the public helped them to make this arrest. metro's police chief wants the u.s. attorney's office to review this weekend's incident. officers used a stun gun on a man who was coming the aid of
