let's go to "news4 today" megan mcgrath who is life near the scene. what can you tell us now? >> at this point, in the rush hour, we basically have a standstill situation. we are looking down on the southbound lanes of the baltimore-washington parkway and up on t 193 erpass. you can see traffic not moving at all. there is the detour just i ahead there.an all l of the southbound side of the bw parkway are closed. they are detouring traffic on th northbound side of the beltway. that's as far as you're able to. go this morni this is all because of a deadly hit and run accident that happened early this morning. you can see the emergency crews that are still on the scene. they are still documenting this accident. not a lot of information about exactly what happened. for example, we don't know why the pedestrian was down there oe arkway at this hour.o also n information on the vehicle that struck that pedestrian ath then left scene. certainly police are lking for anyone who may have been in the area, may have witnessed

up. ak bng news. chopper 4 is giving us a bird's-eye view. what are you seeing? >> tragedy struck last night shortly before midnight when a pedestrian was struck here on the southbound side of the bw parkway on the overpass of the capital beltway. all lanes remain closed now for hour number six as they continue this cleanup and investigation. we have also now got a crash on the ramp to the outer loop attributing to more delays. you can seeat center screen. multiple vehicles and ems on the scene. delays continue to build on the southbound side of the bw parkway approaching the beltway. about a two-mile backup at this point. the only access you'll have to the southbound side of the bw parkway is right here offof the inner loop. you can see the closer on the outer loop ton get ohe bw parkway south is still in effect. i am seeing that the victim was finally removed from the scene. so we may have cupdatesing up

closed down in the southbound direction. we are seeing movement there. the cones havbeen picked up. we may see this reopen shortly. for the time being it' closed but -- they are moving the trucks right now. it looks like they are startin n the lanes of traffic. yep. that is exactly what is happening here. so we have had a longstanding closure here for the first part of the rush hour because of a deadly hit and run pedestrian accident. but as you can see moments ago, they did reopen all of the lanes in the southbound direction. however, we still have significant delays in the area. you're looking at chopper from the air ther giving you a vantage point here. because this has been closed for quite a while, we do have quite a backup in the ar. so that is going to stay with us a little while at least whilet ngs start to clear up in this area. we also apparently had some kind of an accident, a fender bender that was on the ramp where they
