that took place over the course of more than three decades. news4 derrick ward is here live with more. >> reporter: good morning. this is the result of an independent investigation. a look at allegations that actually started back in f ruary.ol it invves national cathedral school. the report itself has a disclaimer and a warning because of the graphic details that it contains. now, this is a result of four moth of talking to those who came forward and that is more th 200ople and a roux of 40,000 documents, more than that. it involved16 former members of the school community and allegations of sexual misconduct against students. this ranges from incidents that happened in the '50s up until the '90s.

the majority happened during the '70s. some happened at the school and some at a summer camp in vermont and some at the home of the students. some incidents, these incidents were reported to school officials. as the individua concerned were disciplined. >> that was derrick ward reporting live from northwest washingto thank you. >> some of these incidents -- >> thank you, derrick. we move on now. an afternoon walk turned deadly in arlington. a fallen treelimb killed a woman on a walking trail and it happened yesterday on section of lucky run trail th runs through a residential neighborhood. police say the woman was just walking on the path when continunormous tree limb snapped and crushed her.

white supremacist was found guilty of killing heather heyer in charlottesville when jam ield junior plowed into the crowd with his car, killing heyer and injuring ma others. prosecutors say life in prison is the onlyppropriate sentence. fields' att he is 22 years old and had a traumatic childhood that he doesn't deserve life in prison. the maryland general assembly is honoring five people who were killed in the capital gazette shooting one year ago today. june 28th will be known as the freedomf the press day in d aryland. gerfischman and rob hiaasen rebecca mcnamara and smith and wendi winters all were killed during the shooting. the gazette was recently awarded a pulitzer prize for its

covering of the news during th mass shooting. we are a week away from the july fourth holiday and megan mcgrath is live from the naonal mall with more. >> reporter: good morning. if you're among those who come to washington every year for all of the fourth of july festivities, you're going to notice a few changes this year and there's some information out g ere that you're goin want to know before you head down here to make things a little bit easier in terms of getting around. take a look at the video. thnds was shot yesterday a as you can see, preparations are in rell swing h in washington and we are expecting a large crowd for the fourth. now, in addition to the parade, the concerts also going to be happening on the west lawn of the capitalhi year, there will be the president's salute to america that is tag place at theincoln memorial. now in terms of events here, take a look.

here are some of the specifics. larger than usually fireworks display this year. they are going to be launched from a dcaferent loon from west potomac park this year so that will open up viewing areas t the world war ii memorial and reflecting pool, as well as constitution gardens and areas that are normally closed for the zofety as they fire off those fireworks. the big display gets under way at 9:07nd last until 9:27. there is going to be a lot of security this year. take a look at the map here. first of all, you pass through security checkpoints to access the mall from 14th street down to the lincoln memorial. that is something people are accustomed to, but there will also be additioal security associated with that salute to america event where the president is speaking at the lincoln. now you do haveeo have tick for that event. you can't just go through. and you're going to have to pass through a second layer of security in order to get thonto

explosive allegations. >> reporter: good morning. indeed, they are explosive. this started with a study thatb n back in february. this involves the national cathedral school, and saint ablans and boauvoir school. it involves four months of talking to those who came forward and that is about00 people40,00 an documentinvolves 16 former members of the school community nd sexual misconduct involving students. as you said, it started in the '50s and went through the '90s a most of the time it was happening in the '70s and sometimes it happened at school and sometimes at a summer camp he school was running and sometimes at the home of a student. now in some instances, the people involved were reported to the school officials and they were dealt with and either fired or trndsferred a some incidents metropolitan policenv were ived, and other institutions that these people

may have been transferred to when they had contact with children, they were notified of these allegaons as well. now, again, the school says that they are putting some robust measures in place to see that this doesn't happen in the future. they plan to be talking to the parents in the fall. meanwhile, the bishop of the a school m ann buddy commended those who were brave enough to come forward and she says this won't happe again. live outside the national cathedral, derrick ward. doctors say this year's flu shot was a bust. ctnters for disease control say its overall effeeness was only 29% but that is just an average for the whole season. in february, the flu shot was 47% effective. but then a second strain emerged toward the end of the season and the shot could not handle it. its effectiveness plummeted to just 9%. i know doctors still recommend getting it every year. >> theyd do o. >> you want to protect yourself. chuck, how about the hot or
