the height of rush hour. >> right. and you may have gotten stuck in the mess on your wayome this evening. >> news 4's shomari stone spoke to one ofhe other drivers involved in the wreck. he joins us live from prince georges county with the detai. shomari. >> reporter: well, good evening, you guys. that driver is obviously a bit shaken up still after this awful crash in the height of rush hour, as you all just stated. right now you have a 2-year-old ogirl transported t the hospital with critical injuries, life threatening injuries. another child in the car, a 5-year old, with serious injuries, but that child is ct expeed to be okay. their mother obviously distraught after whatd happene. >> i'm sorry it had to happen. >> reporter: take a look at ron berry's cadillac trunk, mangledt meal, but he has something else on his troubled mind. >> i was more concerned about otthe little baby that injured. >> reporter: ron was driving on be outer les of i-495 friday evening before theranch avenue

exit in temple hills. craffic was awful. >> we were stuk here, the traffic wasn't moving and i didn't see it because i was in front. >> reporter: suddenly a white toyota comry with a wan and her two toddlers inside rear ended him. that's because he says another car hit them. >> the car hit the car behind me and that car hit me, and when i -- it f pushed meorward so i backed up.en wh got out, that's when i saw the mher bring the baby ayt and lay it on the ground. >> reporter: he the mother was frantic, worried. >> she was kind of distraught. i tried to keep her from going into traffic. after that i wanted to make surh was okay because she was a little upset. >> reporter: traffic was backed up while maryland state police investigated the crash. now, maryland state police also tell us that there was heavy rain that hampered the crash investigation at the time ofhe accident. they're continuing to investigate. no word on any charges or anything like that right now. people who were involved in the accident are praying for the

us louise peabody achieved historic firsts in her professional career while also raising a family here in arlington. at the spot where she was fatally struck by a falling tree limb, a tribute to h ow much she was loved and admired. a certified public accountant by profession, her family says peabody, 67, was proud to have been the first woman partner at d.c. area based watkins accounchng firm whi later mered with cone res nick. after she retired she didn't stop encouraging and helping young women and gives as a mentor at stem for her. this photo taken last week shows she and her granddaughter on a trip to the air and space museum. amily and friends struggle with the terrible loss, those familiar with the trail where she lost her life continue to wonder how the multi-100-pod limb from a healthy tree came ouashing down hours before storms came thr the area thursday evening. >> my kids walk that bike path

firefighters are only battling this from outside right now because of concerns about their safety. still not clear how this all began. we will bring you any updates as they come in on the nbc washington app. developingtonight, new detls about the man arrested for the death of a utah college student. he had previously been investigated for a rape allegatiag five years o. >> it is the latest twist in a mysterious disappearance a murder. news 4's leon harris is tracking the new information that we've learned. leon, talk to us first about this previous accusation that exists. >> yes, apparently the man was d involvn another case police were looking into, a utah police department looked into this 2014 rape allegation against ayoola ajayi but the woman in the case declined to pursue charges. today police arrested ajayi on suspicion of murder, kidnapping and desecration of body. video shows the swat team taking

memorial garden. they dedicated five rose bushes symbolizing hope, promise and new beginnings. the survivors and families of ths victims tell u they don't want anymore prayers, they want action to end shootings. new toninit, a virgia beach shooting survivor was arrested after telling his boss he didn't want to return to work in the same building where the shooting happened. john mciver was inside building two last month when a gunman killed 12 of his cobourquers. this week he was told that he was going to be goingk to building two. he met with a supervisor tuesday to talk about the situation and court recorders say he became a agitated angry and stormed out of the office and then wednesday police arrested him and charged h d withturbing the peacehe. says he wants to return to work, just not to that same building.
