morning. >> it is. this dangerous storm's wind and rain felt along the gulf coast this morning. the conditions are set to worsen throughout the day. there's fears now of record rain, record flooding. we're going to be in new orleans live just momentrom now. let's go to al because he's watching the storm closely. good morning to you. >> good morning. thanks so much. here the latest we got just from the national hurricane center. right now, barry, 125 miles south-southeast, morga city, louisiana. 50-mile-per-hour winds. picked up forward speed, moving sst-northwest at 5. makes landfalle time early saturday morning and continues its way up the mississippi river valley. in fact, we'll be tal this on into next week as you can see. it goes all the way up into the midwest. tropical alerts. along the coast, hurricane warnings, tropical storm warnings. as you moveinland, tropical storm watches for coastal parts of mississippi where the storm surge will be anywhere from 2 to 4 feet. 3 to 6 feet from intercoastal city all the way to grand isle.

and the wind field is fairlye. larg you can see these winds. again, they're not going to be catastrophic winds but can still do damage, bng dow power lines. we'll watch this right on into sunday. now, to give you a sense of why this is going touc be s a big problem, it's a massive m in size. 800 miles across, almost across the entire gulf coast. now, in comparison, hurricane michael, 500 miles last year. average hurricane diameter, about 300 miles. the difference is michael was a category 3 or 4 storm even almost reaching a 5, and that caused all that damage. what we're worried about,ra the . flooding is going to be a big problem. a high risk of floodinguc throughout of louisiana, into central louisiana, and on into the south with rainfall rates 3 to 4 inches per hour. that could overwhelm the pumps in new orleans. isolated rainfall amounts. 25 inches or more. a wide area, though, of anywhere from 10 to 15 inches of rain.

louisiana is in jeopardy of breaking their all-time hurricane allison record, 2001, of almost 30 inches of rain. we're going to be watching this very closely. the flooding, again, the big problem. that's why people have to really heed those evacuation orders. craig. >> we'll come back t you in a few moments. meanwhile, down along the gulf coast, millions are bracing and preparing for whater that storm brings. nbc's kerry sanders is in new orleans for us onc again this morning. what's the scene right now? >> well, good morning, craig. i'm on the mississippi river. we just heard al talk about rain levels up to maybe 25 inches. kere aestak l rightoo there? that's whe the banksf the mississippi should be. as you can see, the water is much closer. and th is with the storm surg and thatamount of rain, the only protection will be for that side where people live this manmade levee that runs for miles. this morning, the gulf coast is

>> along the mississippi river, the big concern is the storm ivrge. the r is already swollen, running eight feet above normal. with 3 to 5 feet of storm surge possible, the mississippi could rise to levels not seen since 1950. so on one side, you can see all is dry. the levee is doing exactly what it's supposed to do, protecting the mississippi river from er coming ov but the fear, of course, is that storm surge could push it over, flooding neighborhoods. he national guard already been activated here, guys. more than ha3,000 fproding lem begins. >> kerry sanders for there in new orleans. kerry, thank you. politics isnow. morning, we have the results of a new nbc news/"wall street journ" poll in the 2020 presidential race. a mixed bag for democratic front-runner joe biden, and also major headlines out of thee, whe hous including new details on the migrant raids this coming

ago are now scheduled for this coming weekend. and the operation is already being met with protests. some from inside the trump administration.l nbc nationa correspondent miguel almaguer has the details for us. good morning. >> savannah, good morning. we're told by two senior officials with the department of homend security that beginning this sunday, immigration and customs enforcement agents will egin looking for some 2,000 immigrants under deportation orders. the crackdown comes as ongoing protests over e treatment of migrant childn and vows by elected officials not to help i.c.e. agents in the field. the raids were supposed to begin more than two weeks ago, but they were abrumently called off ruortly after president tweeted, neck week, i.c.e. will begin the process of removing thf illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the united states. last friday, the president tellinghe reporters raids will now be starting fairly soon. >> i don't call them raids. i say they came in illegally,

and abe. now he's been indicted by a federal grand jury on an additional charges, including child pornography, and he's set to be arraigned in federal court in chicago this morning. overnight, r&b star r. kelly arrested i chicago on federal sex crime charges. two law enforcement sources tell nbc news a spokesman for the u.s. attorney's office in chicago telling usa today a federal grand jury has indicted3 kelly on 1 counts. including child pornography, enticement of a minor, and obstruction of justice. ♪ i believe i can >> the 52-year-old singer known for hits like "i believe i can fly" and "ignition" was arrested whilealking his d near his home. >> had been said thater there we fbi investigations, but we didn't know exactly when it would happen. we're heretoday, and we're ready for it. >> his arrest was the elhis yea een taken into custody i chicago on sex related charges.

in february, kelly was charged in illinois with ten counts, g aggravated sexual abuse involving four women. three of those victims were minors at the time of the alleged assaults. he pleaded not guilty. then in may, kelly was charged with 11 more counts of sexual assault and sex abuse, according to court records. he again pleaded not guilty. kelly has been the subject of sexual abuse allegations for nearly two decades. the of them alleging acts as fba as 1998. the allegations resurfacing back in january after a six-part lifetime docuseries, surviving r. kelly, detailing a number of women's claims that they were sexually, mental, and physically abused. it also focused on his 2008 child pnography trial. he was acquitted of all charges. the grammy-award winning singer denied all accusations in the etcuseries. here he is gng emotional defending himself in an

charge. it's interesting to hear this account ando digeeper into it because what she portrays is a pencess that w on over a period of weeks, so it wasn't like she showed up and this alleged rape happened. it was something she said took place, took time. she had been there a few times before anything turned physical. >> after she stopped showing up the last time, did he or any of his people reach out to her? >> she says yes. she says that for almost more than a year, from time to time, the secretary or whoever it was, would reach out to her, butr sh neent back. she never returned a call. and you know, it took her years before she said she told anyone, but did tell people long before she says they came out publicly, she did tell a therapist and a then boyfriend. >> how is she doing? you get sense ofhere she is now? >> you can kind of see at the end, i think she felt ,revolved like a burden lifted to just say it, to tell the story, but it's a long road. obviously, she has a civil case
