the storm is expected to become a hurricane byhe time it makes landfall this morning. first responders have told people along the coast in louisiana that the time to run has passed and now people have to hunker down and barrel through the storm. t good morningo you, i'm meagan fzgerald, we're tracking the latest developments on tropical storm barry and how that system could affect us here in the d.c. region. we want to check in with lauryn ricketts. first and foremos this storm system is continuing to churn very slowly over the last several hours. it has sped up. from three miles to five miles an hour, heading towards the coast of louisiana. now, not sure if it's going to get to category 1 status manufacture it makes landfall. winds are 65 miles an hour. the thing is, it m doesn'tatter if it makes hurricane 1 status,

capgory 1 status, or troal storm. the damage is starting to be done right here. lots of rain headed towards new orleans, towards baton rouge, just to the west of new orleans. we're continuing to watch this as it churns on shore. lots of floodgand storm surge. also, they've got lakes and of course the mississippi river that could break some we'll have to watch for flooding not only from the storm but also from just overflowing of ridrs lakes. back here at home we hain nothg going on. the sun just came up. temperatures are in the 70s right now. it is nice morning out there, look at that gorgeous sunrise right there, 73 degrees, humidity not that bad. let's talk about the rest of our weekend and talk about when barry could impacau us becse i do think the remnants could come our way. we'll show you when coming up. back to tropical storm barry, it's just hours away from making landfall along the louisiana coast.

it's still predicting that the storm will intensify to a category 1 hurricane but the primary damage as i lauryn said not the winds but the torrential rain and the dangerous storm surge barry brings. we have wendy woolfolk in new orleans. >> reporter: withbarry's arrival imminent, the time to get out is over. >> at what point might you draw the line and get out of town? >> i'm not the smartest guy in the world so i'm going to stay here. a reporter: low lying prishes are already taking on water. with 25 inches of rain it's only going to get worse. >> this is the first time in the history of the levyistrict we've had to close every single gate due to the river being swollen and so high. >>eporter: the river is eight feet above normal. barry's expected 70 mile an hour winds could make a storm surge

yesterday. past five ked the years for reports for this location and found no major violations or abuse allegations. meanwhile, presisnt trump ha confirmed that i.c.e. raids set for tomorrow will target thousands of undocumented immigrants. the president says agents will go after people who have already been given deportation orders, raids aren planned for te cities, including baltimore. president trump says the raids will be focused on criminals. his critics say th operation is designed to appeal to his base. but across the country there's been strong show of support for immigrants. vigils took place in hundeds of cities, including here in the l distt night. news 4's jackie bensen reports from the emotional demonstration at lafayette square. >> hate has no place herehe >> as t sun began to set hundreds of protesters held battery candles, some raising them skywardn memory of the people including children who

news 4. the houseversight committee held a hearing on a treatment of migrants at the southern border. they also put out a new report on child separation. and according to a report more tan 2,600 children have been separated fromeir parents. at least 18 re under the age of 2 and some were kept away from parents for up to six months. the report also found more than s00 children were kept in border patrol facilitie longer than the allowed 72 hours. at yesterday's heang democrats blamed the trump administration for poor conditions at some centers wle republican members pointed to overwhelmed enag. >> between 2017 and 2018 we hit a high of 100 agents committing suicide. that needs to be put in record. the dehumanization is not only with those families but it's also with the ants that we've had told to dohis to these families. >> president obama set up a bill

thought it would be because it's going to be warm today. we're going to check in with laryn in a minute here. all eyes are on tropical storm barry as itur chns along the gulf coast headingtowards louisiana. it is expeed to make landfall sometime soon. residents have already been told to evacuate. wendy woolfolk live in new orleans with the latest. what are you seeing righ now, wendy? >> reporter: good morning to you, the winds are picking up along the mississippi river. barry slowedwn overnight but became more organized and the conditions are only going to get worse. as he gets closer to making landfall. there is a shelterin place order in the city of new orleans. coastal, those low lying areas have evacuated and they are already taking on water. with as much as 25 inches of rain expected in some areas historic flooding is certainly

of louisiana. kind of jets out. that's what they're worried about. the southern shore rightof ther ouisiana going through baton rouge all the way from west to east and new leans and as well as portions inside'sinland, it going to take a while to get through there. they'll be dealing with this rain all weekend. wendy was saying it was going tw sl down, it actually sped up.t i moving to the west/northwest at 5 miles an hour. just this morning it was moving about 3. either way, that isslow. let's go ahead to our maps right now and talk about what's going on at home. today we're not as humid. it's hot but not as humid. sunny andumid. monday, beautiful, tuesday, sunny and dry, we've got nice weather here before we start to see some rain and remnants of barry moving our way, so some dry time and some nice time with

temperatures in the 60s and low 70s. you walk outside this morning not quite as humid. wake up weather those a temperatur going to be in the 70s. by 8:00 a.m. already at 81 degrees. again it is going to be a little on the warm side out there by 8:00 a.m. and we're headed to the upper 80s and lower 90s today. the humidity is not as bad but it rolls in overnight. so ur forecast for your pool today go to the pool. put on the spf. but otherwise plenty of sunshino at the p it's going to be beautiful out there, great pool day. nothing happening on the radar for us. we're looking good. we'reooking dry and that's the way it's going to be today and of course updating you on tropical storm barry right now, things going to stay a tropical storm as it makes its way into tlouisiana. eiher way doesn't matter. winds are at 65 miles an hour. they can get up to 75. but i do believ time is running out quickly. should make landfall next couple hours. it's going to take all wekend

to move through louisian that's how slow it's moving. it will head up towards the middle part of the unid,d states ann fact, it will start taking a turn towards us. so here we go, here it is right there, this is 5:00 p.m. on sa rday, the yellows and the reds are the heaviest rain with the potential to get up12 from to 15 inches of rain. that's going to be west of new orleans into baton uge. it's going to continue to move up. watch it here. we're dry. even by sunday we're dry. actually, an isolated shower on sunday for us but for the most part we'll stay dry. monday morning looking good. we're fine over here. tuesday, we're looking good. here's the remnants of barry still coming up. even into wednesday afternoon we're fine. or tuesday afternoon and then wednesday starting to get a little close. now, wednesday will start to bit, up a little especially by the afternoon but it's going to take its good old time to get here. i don't ink wel see the morning. it will continued to push throuh during the day thursday. lingering showers friday and then we dry out.

being transported to pince georges county. transit police say he assaulted a woman on thursday and got on a train and rode one stop to dean wood in d.c. officers followed him on surveillance and arrested him a short time later. no other witnesses orrs ri were around at the time. and shocking new details were released as r&btar r. kelly was indicted on federal sex crime charges. court documents say kelly id allegedly paoff a victim and her family to deny that she was the underage girl at the center of his pornography trial back in 2008. they also allege kelly kept women locked inside his home and weren't allowed to dothnything wit his permission. other charges include sex trafficking, child pornography, and racketeering. kelly and his lawyers look forward to his day in court, to

empty. up and down the streets you'll see signsf preparedness. you've got sandbags in frt of a lot of buildings and hotels. it's very quiet this morning. they' had heavy flooding here a matter of days ago. and now this approaching tropical storm system that could bring a foot or more of rainfall. so a lot of fear, plenty of aconcern. >> as the rain, you know, moves forward to the coast of louisiana, is there concern that those levies won't be able to hold the rain that's coming? >> reporter: that is a great question, yeah, everyone's talking about the levies andwi h good reason. we've been speaking with the army corps of engineers and they've been checking the levies, and they've been doing o this fer 200 days. we've had flooding on the mississippi river for quite a while. o they are very, very concerned about them but for now the

levies seem to be in good shape wite exception of one area resting to the southwest of our present position. mandatory evacuations there. but in the city doing well for >> reynolds wolf reporting for us. thank you so much and stay safe out there. >> reporter: absolutely.. good morning all right, lauryn, looks like a relatively calm conditions out there right now. >> yeah. >> but obviously the worst iset to come. >> yeah. and they're going to continue to see these heavy bands of rain that push into that area. and the river's already swollen, the mississippi river's already swollen. if you don't know, i know you worked in louisiana, the mississippi river around louisiana and around new orleans, i mean, it goes up and down and around and around and itth flows from the nor to the south. it is completely swollen from the rrin they got in the spng and also the winter they had ana the t'pontchartrain, thas

on the north side of new orleans a's they're worried that going to swell up and that is going t create floodconditions. it's going to take all weekend for barry just to move through the state of louisiana. that's how slow this is moving. again, we're going to be watching thatnc flooding con. doesn't matter if it's tropical storm, hurricane, i don't think it's going to get huicane status before landfall. winds are at 65 miles an hour right now and it needs 75 miles an hour for a cat 1 hurricane. but it doesn't mter because the main problem is the heavy rains they'll see pushing on shore. and then again filling up some of those reservoirs and lakes. nothing happening here, but again since we're talking about barry we'll take you to the deep south right here, a little bit but organized, again, lar re not seeing the cir pattern you usually do with these hurricanes you get. didn't have enough time to organize and again we're watching it move right on shore

to new orleans. you can see some of the heavier bands of rain right there.in the mathreat is going to be ou baton r, which was just to the west of louisiana. that's the area that i think is going to se the most rain. and anywhere -- i mean, they could see up to 20 inches of rain, anywhere from 10 to 15 inches of rain. so let's take a look at the track. winds are at 65 miles an hour. the pressure has dropped a little bit and it sped a ittle bit overnight up to fi miles an hour as opposed to three. it's going to take all weekend to get through. by tuesday to the middle part of the united states and by the time we get to wednesday and i thursd's heading towards the mid-atlantic. sunny skies, clear skies, beautiful day out there. current temratures, 60s and 70s. the humidity won't be as bad today but it is going to be hot. lower 90s. humidity starts to roll back in overnight but still enjoy the day at the pool. find somebody with a pool. put on the sunshine out there. as far as your weekeoo outl is concerned, yard work better in the morning as opposed to tho
