forecast right on through the weekend. >> announcer: news 4 at 11:00 oegins with breakg news. >> first to m breaking news. a heart breaking situation in southeast washington. bullets smash ir,to a ca hitting a boy inside. now that1-year-old boy is dead. >> mayor muriel bowser was with policetonight calling this devastating and infuriating. news 4's cory smith joins us from along naylor road. cory,at is the latest? what are you hearing? >> reporter: jim and doreen, right now this tragic news is spreading throughout theea southt community. another homicide in the district, another child gone way too soon. as you said, an 11-year-old boy is dead tonight. the scene behind me still active. police still out here searching for any evince they could find, especially they are looking for surveillance videos that may have captured what happened. now, within the last ur, we heard from mayor bowser. she addressed the media on

certainly what is a nig of tragedy. take a listen. >> this was a child. there were other children in and around the and our communities have to stand up and speak up and make sure anyone who knows anything about thisic brazen homide is brought to justice. >> reporter: according to pice, this happened shortly before 7:00 tonight in the 2700 block of naylor road. officers responded to shots of gunfire, but they did not fi a victim. it wasn't until authorities in erince george's county called and said some brought a child suffering from gunshot wounds to a local firehouse. the boy was then taken to the hospital where he wasno proced dead. police tell us he was seated inside of a car on naylor road when some sort of verbal dispute unfolded and a group of men standing nearby fired multip shots into the vehicle, striking

the little boy. now, tonight no one is in custody. police are looking for five people in this case. they want anyone nearby to check their home surveillance cameras. the mayor tonight, muriel bowsero wants the community stand up, speak out, and get o folks tut down the guns. here's what she had to say. >> people who would be soz b and calous without any regard for life should never get close to a gun. and we need everybody's assistance in telling us if a person has an illegal gun that you know that's in your home, that you've seen, we need to be able to help them get rid of that gun. >> reporter: mayor bowser also said there were multiple ildren in the area at the time that the shooting took place. obviously very scary for the folks out here. jim and doreen, we would be remiss if we didn't mention to the viewers this homicide tonight comes in nearly a year to the day that 10-year-old ma

sun. they sat there for hours in the heat waiting for help. tonight we have team coverage of hat rescue as temperature rise. we begin with shomari stone on the ground at the theme park in bowie. shomari? >> reporter: well, good evening, lee i don't kn leon and doreen. let me tell you it is hot right now. imagine how it felt around 6:15 today. that is when people were on the fiird ride. we have good news to report. prince george's county fire officials tell me that there were no transports, no one was hurt. let's roll video from social media just to give you what it was like. is video from a guy named jaymes brown on instagram shows people stuck on the ride. now let's show you video from chopper4. it was shot after everyone was safely escorted off the fi bird. a six flags person told us it came to a stop at the lift hill at 6:15 this evening. employees escortid the rs off the popular new roller coaster. the firebird is floorless. there is nothing between the rider feet and the rails

below. six flags america officials say interest that's a top speed of 56 miles per hour along a 2900-foot track. now, in a written statement, a spokesperson told me, qfote, the say of our guests is our highest priority. and the ride will remain closed for a full inspection by our certified ride technicians. back out here live, now, i asked the six flags spokeerson why it took the employees approximately two hours to get the o people of the ride. she told me that those employees were following safety procedures. live here in upper marlbor i'm shomari stone, news 4. >> of all days to get stuck up there. had to be a day like today. thanks, shomari. >> the story may sound kind of familiar to you. six flags america had to call i emergenccrews to rescue riders last summer from the superman ride of steel. and the previous april, 24 people were stuck mid-air for hours on the joker's jinxe. rid nobody was hurt in any of those

rescues. >> it was all jinx, no joker there t the weatheray was no joke. it was a factor in today's incident there at the park. those who were stranded wehe in t scorching heat, temperatures topping in the 90s. >> and it's only going to get worse as the weekend arrives. storm team 4 meteorologist amel draper here with the weather alert warnings for the next three days, amelia. >> yeah, absolutely, doreen and leon. the national weather service has issued a heat aisory for tomorrow your friday. it is going to begin at 11:00 a.m. in the morning and run until 9:00 at night. this is for eve. check it out. everybody here in orange is going to be under this heat advisory tomorrow. and then as we look to the weekend, we already have an excessive heat watch that will be in effect for saturday as well as sunday. these also begin at 11:00 a.m. and run until 9:00 p.m. so what that means is dring that time period, eachry anday you want to avoid or limit your time-out doors.s currently imuggy. i mean, you step out there and it feels like you get hit with a

>> new tonight, a federal grand jury has indicted a man who ay police scaused a deadly crash on the b.w. parkway last month. investigators say darnell bassett had been speeding away from police in d.c. after hitting a canine cruiser and at some point he wound up on the parky heading north where eventually ecko lied with a car on the ramp to the beltway.d 27-year-olittany burkes, a howard university dental student, died in that crash. bassett now charged with involuntary manslaughter in that case. >> dozens of people gathered at monroe park at 21st and pennsylvania downtown this eveningo remember two people who were killed earlier this month. the victims had been sitting on a park bench whencl a ve lost control and careened into t park, striking that bench. police have not identified the victims. but we talked with a man who says he knew one of them and had been sitting on that same bench just an hour before the crash.

name of that boy who was killed after a shting in southeast tonight. >> 11-year-old karan brown lived in southeast d.c. we want to get back to news 4's cory smith on the scene. we've just gotten pictures of the suspect, cory? >> reporter: yeah, that's right, doreen. police had told us that the suspects ran away from the scene after the shooting. hod as you can see in this picture, that is we believe to be the shooter. you might even be able to make out what appears to be some sort ofbject in his hand. again, police tell us that this all began as some sort of vbal altercation. karan brown 11 years old sitting in a car on naylor road, altercation words were tossed around. that's when the shooting started. he was driven to firehouse in prince george's county and then transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. police are looking for one shooter. that shooter was withfour other people, so authorities are looking for five total people,

feelingike 88 in washington by 8:00 a.m. by noon it's feeling like 100 to 105 degrees in spots. already feeling like triple digits out there at lunchtime. 4:00 p.m., we're going to close to an excessive heat warning. that would be 110 degrees for a heat index. i think we might see me areas, especially the d.c. metro area potentially upgraded to an excessive heat warning out there tomorrow afternoon. i mean, even tomorrow night, 7:00 p.m., it's still feeling like triple digits. 10:00 at night we're not gettinn y relief. heat indices still in the mid 90s at that point, with a high temperature tomorrow of 98 degrees. so worst case scenao, the heat index tomorrow rising to 110. saturday 115 is how hot it's going to feel outside during the afte foon. on sundling about 113 degrees outdoors. so make sure -- you want to make sure you're drinking plenty of water these next few day avoid long hours outdoors. wr light colored and loose-fitted clothing and always keep kids and pets in mind.
