soaring temperatures. more than 100 local records are expected t fall over the weekend. city leaders in places like chicago, philadelphia, boston, new york city, are all telling residents to take the extreme heat seriously, encouraging them toedtay in air condition buildings and drink plenty of water. >> a federal judge yesterday ordered jeffreypsin held without bail, siding with prosecutors who argued that he poses a flight risk. the judge called stein, quote, a danger to the community. the defense had proposed a $77 million bail package. epstein faces up to 45 years in prison on allegations he sexually abused dozen of underaged girls from 2002 to 2005. he's pleaded not guilty. >> a video posted on social mediaho s a frightening close call on a new york subway platform. watch as a guy nearly gets swept into moving train after the platform was flooded r byhing waters there. it happened wednesday during the anvere thunderstorms. thankfully, the m was able to stop himself just aew feet

hurt. u.p.s. is a large company. they can afford to make sure those workers aren't hurt. >> he admits he was never able to pass a national workplace at rule while he led the agency, but says it needs to happen now. >> if nothing is done, we'll have workers working harder and faster in hotter temperature, more of tm will be hospitalized. >> we spoke to 20 u.p.s. drivers in 11 states who were injured or spoke out about the heat. while many tolds they like retaliation if they complained or took extra breaks. in part because they are constantly monitored. >> the company knows when you have your seat belt on. the company knows how fast you're going. >> u.p.s. told nbc news it believes air conditioning would be ineffective in the trucks. said it encourages its drivers to drinkater and rest. and provides employees extensive training. safety >> it's easy to give that advice, but the employer doesn't say you have time to do it, and

we will penalize you for taking that time. some of them are going to be hospitalized, and sadly, a few of them may even die. >> now,u. s. made nearly $5 billion in profit last year, but says it has not calculated the cost of airon ctioning in its package trucks. they say it would not be effective because the trucks make frequent stops and doors are often open. some experts say there could be other solutions like allowing more time for breaks when r temperaturese to dangerous levels. now, as for jim clink, he's considering retiring early. he knows tha means he'll take a pension cut, but he says he just doesn't know if he can work for the company anymore. >> a lot of people will haves their eye opened by the story. is there anything being done to address this? >> funny you should ask. just last week, congresswoman ju chu from california introduced a bail to mandateo a oesh osha t come up with a bill.
