biggest attractions, but somehow this beautiful evening turned tragic. a woman ended up in the water off the district pier. you could see police and medics responding to the area after a witness called 911 and said a woman went in from the district pier and never came back up. >> i have no idea how she got in the water. all i know is we received a ca for a person in the water. somebody had gone in and we began our rescue efforts. >> reporter: it tookhe d.c. police harbor control about 25 minutes to make thedirescue. vers were able to find her in the area where she went in and pull her from the water. >> since the wharf is open, to my knowledge, this is the first time we've had is kind of event. >> reporter: the woman was taken to the hospitaln criticalen can. her injuried are considered to be life threatening. the pier which has a stage is typically filled with people enjoying the night life. but it washelosed to t public as police investigate how the woman ended up in the water and

at 1:00 in the morningsunday july 14th. suddenly, the friend comes out of the hotel to help. and ten the teen hits him. he goes back inside. d to top it off, a woman then walks up to the man on the ground, and it appears she spits in his face and a runsay leaving the man with injuries to the head and left eye socket according to police. back out here in front othe hotel, a washington hilton official told us that the hotel t s no comment about w happened. as for the man who was beaten, he has returned to his job. he was unavailable to comment. police are offering a freward o up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and an indictment in this case. >> it's still unclear tonight why those teenagers attacked the victim or if they knew who he was. police tell us that victim is expected to be okay. now an update you saw first today on our nbc washingtonpp a

heartwarming story we brought night.t tomorrow a metro transit police officer who a helped out single mom and her son during a hectic commute is going to be honored. today andrew was reunited with officer dominic case. andrew has autism. on friday he had a bit of a meltdown on a metro ride home. officer case stepped in and ended up escorting andrew and his mom all the way home. her po thanking case went viral. andrew and his mom plan to attend that ceremony tomorrow to honor officer case. we'll be there. well deserved. way to go. >> little bit of kindness. >> yeah. >> it can go ay. long wa >> so, that was quite some rain around here last night. tonight. ight. >> yeah. both nights. >> skipping ahead. >> i wasn't expected much during the day today. i said maybe isolated showers. they were a lot more than isolated. i went home, put a steak on thep grill, look ulike i'm okay.

isolated for sure across the region. th is an ummer level of low pressure helping with this and showers ed produce the and thunderstorms. the boundaries, outflow boundaries from storms, you get a shower that comes up and releases all of its energy. and in those boundaries when th they connec have one way to go but up and that creates more storms. that's what we saw tonight. we have showers in wall or do of, fredericksburg. this is what i'm talking about here. you can kind of see it. a little spin in the atmosphere. that's cold air. that also helps to proce these showers and storms today. we saw that earlier why. now we're looking at clear skos. just ab the entire country on the quiet side. again, we had showers.t buow about the temperatures? we were at 87 degrees today. where do you think that puts us on the eastern part of the country? how about the hottest on the east. yeah. 86 st. louis, 85 in jackson, 87 in savannah.
